I am very interested as to what other peoples children do at this age.

I would like to know the following;

What words can your child say?
At what age did they say their first word?
How old were they when they started walking?
Do you read to your child?
If so how much and when in the day?
Do your children watch tv?
If so roughly for how long, in a day?

several times a day and whenever he wants

an hour or so maybe a bit more depending on the day

Mum-um, Night nighht, Rolo (rabbits name), cat, bye bye, go-work and dada sometimes

He is two next week

About 16 / 17 months

Yes, alone and with the other two
Whenever and wherever really- often evening, but as we go along. Singing is V V big here too

An hour in the morning whilst I clean, occasionally more if brothers at home

DS 1 however had the sdame reading, more TV, walked at ten months and had an entire vocab by DS3's age; DS2 walked at eleven months, spoke at 12 - 13 months but has glue ear so good vocab is obscured

DS 22 months

Can say quite a few words
First word was round about 11 months
Walked at 15 month
We do read to him
Bedtimes and when he brings a book to me during they day
He does watch cbeebies
Several bursts of it, about an hour each day I think.

16 months? Yes was her first word!!!

How old were they when they started walking?

about 16 months.

Do you read to your child? If so how much and when in the day?

yes at some point in the day. Probably for about 10 mins. She loves looking at books and often gets them to look at herself or brings them to me. I also sing to her a lot.

Do your children watch tv? If so roughly for how long, in a day?

Yes, prob. between 20-30 mins, i.e. 2 programmes.

DS2 is 20m

he copies words we say, some perfectly others not so good. He says garden, buggy, noddy, mummy, daddy, grandma, stella, leah......

his first word was mummy, I really can't remember when he first said it though

He took his first unaided steps on his first birthday but he's always been really steady on his feet.

I read to him occasionally

he watches the adverts on tv but not the programmes

DS is almost 20 mos

Car and car noises,chair,spoon,most animal noises,mine,there,door,daddy,choo choo,yes,no,teeth,tea,grandad,yoghurt + more, also can repeat a lot at a given time but may noy say it again.

At what age did they say their first word?

I have a 2 yrs old dd and she talks a lot!! She doesn't string sentences together but she makes herself understood.eg instead of 'Mummy what are you doing', it's 'mummy doing?'

At what age did they say their first word? she was about 8/9 months old I think and it was dada (she's always been a daddy's girl)

How old were they when they started walking? She was about 14 months when she started to walk unaided

Do you read to your child? Yes - occasionally

If so how much and when in the day? not very often as she wants to read the books herself and point to all the pictures

Do your children watch tv? Yes

If so roughly for how long, in a day? she watches cbeebies and play house disney in the morning in the evening for an hour.

OK here's a spanner in your works:

DS1

Age 6- no words that are recognisable to strangers although I know what some sounds mean (*mmdan is toilet for example)
Started talking around 8 months - said about 50 words before stopping
Late walker- 17 months
Read to him all the time when he was little- less now - although he still has favourites form his baby days and he still knows them off by heart (correct sound and intonation if not actual words)
He's at school but sometimes read some favoourite books at night- often don't though.
Yes he watches TV - usually for about an hour after school- used ot like teletubbies when little - didn't watch much else.

dd is 18 months next week,
She can say loads of words, dog, cat, baby, mummy, daddy, nanny, grandad, woof, one, two, three, four, ready stedy go, bye bye daddy, drink, dinner and loads more,

She said her first words at 11 months,

Started walking at 15 months,

I read to hes twice a week,

She watches tv for 3 hours a day somtimes more.

dd is almost 18 mth (in a few days)

words - daddy, mummy, nanna, grandad, doggy, please, thankyou, car, bike, sheep, cows, shoes, chair, hiya, bye, grass, trees, bus, noddy, balloon, clouds, sky, nose, eyes, ears, drink, nana (banana), ball, draw (i.e picture), paper, toys, splash (paddling pool), cry, fall down, run away, go, back....loads more too many to remember or write

has just started putting words together too.

1st word - about 11mth.

walked at 12 mth.

yes i read, not as often as i should though .

yes she watches tv, prob about 1-2 hrs a day.

can count to 3 as well.

JJ, Am quite concerned about dd's speech and have been for some time. I have expressed my concerns to my HV who has sent out a nursery nurse to see dd. This was 4 months ago and she didn't see a problem and tbh I that visit put my mind at rest.
However over the last month or so her speech really hasn't developed and I think she may have a problem with her tongue as she seems to find it hard to say things.
I spoke to my HV again and I feel as though I have been fed a load of rubbish and just been fobbed off.
