Is it OK to smack someone else's kids if they misbehave?

I realise there'll be some people on here who probably don't agree with smacking other people's kids but what if they are in your care and are misbehaving or being cheeky? Do you think it's OK then to just give them a smack on the bum or the hand or do you think you should wait until their parents arrive so that they can smack them?

TrillianAstra · 07/03/2010 22:02

No.

Cathpot · 07/03/2010 22:02

good lord woman, have you never been here before? duck and run

dalek · 07/03/2010 22:03

Surely this is a wind up! Agree NEVER ok to smack someone else's kids even if you do smack your own

Tortoise · 07/03/2010 22:03

No way would i ever smack someone else's child. Even if i did smack my own (which i don't).

BelleDameSansMerci · 07/03/2010 22:03

You are joking, I assume? I don't think it's alright to smack your own children, never mind someone else's.

If anyone smacked my DD, I would probably contact the police. Which is a complete over-reaction. As is smacking.

whoops - just saw your other post. MUCH better second attempt - you're getting the hang of it now

CoupleofKooks · 07/03/2010 22:05

is it ok to punch someone else's MIL if they annoy you?

NoahAndTheWhale · 07/03/2010 22:06

No. It isn't all right.

namechangedtemporarily · 07/03/2010 22:07

Interesting name for someone posting a question like this!!!!

Of course it's not okay.

Didn't think there were trolls on here.

ShinyAndNew · 07/03/2010 22:08

No it's never okay. If someone smacked one of my dds I'd return the favour.

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/03/2010 22:08

Far too obvious to start 2 (or more) controversial threads in the same night.

Did you smack the OPKs before you gave them their skittles?

GoddessInTheKitchen · 07/03/2010 22:08

as long as you give them a couple of packs of skittles afterwards i guess it will be fine

SuperSmartMum · 07/03/2010 22:09

Oh get over yourself - this is a foirum to express opinions. I could come on here with a Hollier-than-thou personna and pretend to be God's gift to parenting and everything but I thought this was for mums to express themselves and share moans, ideas and everything.

Whisper it -but I smack my kids. Not that hard and not that often but I smack them. See - I said it. I'm not going to lie. If they do something wrong, they get a little smack and you know what, they are fine. They haven't got any problems.

Smacking never did me or my sisters any harm so why change now.

Back to the question though, I was asking about whether you thought it was OK to smack other people's kids if they deserved it - that's all?

Not asking for other mums to show off about how perfect they are.

OP posts:
hatwoman · 07/03/2010 22:13

most people answered. they said no. and none of them claimed to be perfect

BelleDameSansMerci · 07/03/2010 22:16

Oh, go on, do breast feeding vs bottle feeding next. Go on, pleeeeeease

NoahAndTheWhale · 07/03/2010 22:18

I am not perfect in any way.

But it is not my place to hit other people's children.

dearprudence · 07/03/2010 22:19

Welcome to mumsnet SuperSmartMum. Over here is the rickety bridge, and this is where you'll be staying - just underneath.

hairymelons · 07/03/2010 22:20

Smacking did do you harm. It made you think that it was ok to hit a little person for doing something you don't like.
I can't believe that this is for real because I can't believe that people like you exist.

ShadeofViolet · 07/03/2010 22:21

I disagree with your name - you dont seem so clever to me!
