If you did nothing at all, how old was your child when they were dry at night?

I mean no lifting, no going cold turkey, just letting them wear nappies until they could go all night and were subsequent children younger or older?

DS1 was 7 1/2 before we knew he would be dry every single night.

DD had 11 dry nights at about 5 but is now 6.5 and in pull ups at night.

DS2 is 4.7 and I haven't even tried anything though sometimes he thinks he can be dry.

22 months . She'd just gone dry during the day (at her request) and went 4 nights in a row dry and she asked not to have nappies on for those nights so we stopped putting them on.

dd2 isn't at that stage yet so no idea about subsequent children. She'll probably be a nightmare

mimsum · 11/01/2010 13:49

ds1 3.5
ds2 4
dd 2.5

just waited until they told me they didn't want to wear nappies anymore - wasn't really a big deal ...

lljkk · 11/01/2010 13:50

26 months (same age as daytime dry).
5.7yrs (in spite of every form of bribery we could think of to speed things along)
5.5yrs+ (DC3 wants to be dry, but can't quite do it every night).

robino · 11/01/2010 13:51

DD is 3 today and has been out of nappies at night for about 3 months. Did nothing - completely took me by surprise but had about a month of dry nighttime nappies at which point I decided it really wasn't worth putting her in them anymore.

DD2 only 18 months - am hoping she follows in big sister's shoes but would have thought I'd be very lucky to get another one who was so easy.

Isn't it supposed to be hormonal?

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 11/01/2010 13:52

I find it interesting that my dd was dry so much earlier than the boys in the day but they all seem to be heading towards being dry at night later than the average.

Having always used washable nappies I really dislike buying the pull ups and sometimes dd gets upset about "not being able to do it." I have told her it isn't her fault or anything she can do anything about.

2.5 - was potty trained and then we noticed her nappies were always dry in the mornings so stopped using them.

mosschops30 · 11/01/2010 13:56

we started potty training ds when he was 3. He wore pull ups for 2 nights and was dry and I thought 'bugger this', left them off him and he's been dry since

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 11/01/2010 13:57

robino - I know it is meant to be hormonal but lots of people do try and influence it.

DS before he was dry in the day at 2.9 He never wet the bed and we think he was just filling his nappy in the morning before we realised.

DD not completely dry until 4.3 although she would go weeks of dry nights from 2.3 but would have weeks of wet nights as well.

mrsruffallo · 11/01/2010 14:44

DS was dry at niight before being potty trained in the day.
He told us he didn't want to wear nappies at night anymore just after he was 2, and was dry from then on.

mii · 11/01/2010 14:45

2.4

Stopped wearing nappies in the day and started getting up at night for a wee even though he had a nappy on. Has not had an accident yet

serenity · 11/01/2010 14:49

All of them were dry at night before they were dry during the day, and all did it around 2ish. I didn't realise they were freaks unusual until I came onto MN!

madwomanintheattic · 11/01/2010 14:52

dd2 was 2.6

dd1 needed referral and help and was 8. ds1 has lots of help and is still wet at 8 with no end in sight. sigh.

TartanKnickers · 11/01/2010 14:54

madwoman - one of my boys is still wet at 8 - no end in sight here either

DD - 2.5
All other boys were around 3 - can't remember exactly. I've never "trained" for nighttime. Only with DS1 who obviously needs some help.

Littlefish · 11/01/2010 14:55

dd - 2yrs 9 months for both day and night. We hadn't considered the nights - they just happened as soon as she was dry in the day.

Phoenix · 11/01/2010 14:58

Ds was dry in the day at 3.2 when he started wearing pull ups for bed. He was dry at night at around 3.5 just before ds2 was born.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 11/01/2010 15:02

Oh I feel better now A week after her third birthday dd asked not to wear nappies at night, had a couple of accidents then got it with just the odd accident. She's been back in night nappies since the end of oct though because she was wetting the bed every night.

She still has at least one accident dring the day most days too mind

Everyone I talk to in RL has found it really easy and they are dry night an day by 3 or 3.5, thank god for MN!

lexcat · 11/01/2010 15:14

DD just after her 7th birthday. Soaking wet every night up to the point her nappy often leaked. Then one morning the nappy was dry and we have never looked back. As for her she was over the moon as she hated still having to wear night nappies.

Geepers · 11/01/2010 15:16

Three of mine at 22-24 months, DC3 is 6.5 and not dry at night. I feel sorry for him because his three year old sister has been out of nappies since before her second birthday.

FimbleHobbs · 11/01/2010 15:18

DS was dry at night by his 4th birthday though I can't remember how long before - a month or two I think.

I know it varies massively, I'd guess 50% of his friends are in pull ups (they are all around 4 & 5).

DD is 3.4 and no sign of being dry at night yet. I am far too lazy to do anything proactive about something that isn't an issue. If it has hasn't happened by 7 or 8, or if it is upsetting the child, thats when I would start taking some action.

YeahBut · 11/01/2010 15:19

Both dds were 5.

potplant · 11/01/2010 15:21

DT1 - about 3.3
DT2 - about 4.5

(both boys if that makes any difference)

Both said that they didn't want to wear them anymore and took them off. Potty training was such a nightmare that I never even mentioned it to either of them. DT1 has a few accidents but we did some bladder training recommended by the school nurse and its been fine since.

Lionstar · 11/01/2010 15:24

DD was 23 months, about 1 month after going reliably dry in the day.

I wet the bed periodically up to about 6 though

Eulalia · 11/01/2010 15:24

Mine are all late.

ds1 was 7 at night.
dd was about 6.4 despite being completely toilet trained daytime when she was 2.3

ds2 is 4.6 and still in nappies. He had a stretch last Christmas (I mean 2008) when he almost came out of nappies but started to wet again). This week he had 4 nights in a row dry and I didn't put a nappy on. This morning he was soaked. So nappy doesn't make a difference (despite some people telling me he's only doing it because the nappy is there). So he's staying in a nappy and it just goes back on again if dry for 4-5 nights and then that odd day he will wet. Can't find a reason linked to amount to drink or anything either.

Just one of those things they grow out of sooner (or later).
