If you did nothing at all, how old was your child when they were dry at night?

I mean no lifting, no going cold turkey, just letting them wear nappies until they could go all night and were subsequent children younger or older?

DS1 was 7 1/2 before we knew he would be dry every single night.

DD had 11 dry nights at about 5 but is now 6.5 and in pull ups at night.

DS2 is 4.7 and I haven't even tried anything though sometimes he thinks he can be dry.

Both were round about 3.
the first one I tried one night by saying your a big boy now you don't need your nappy and he cried 'But mummy I am a little boy' Fair enough I thought and left it a few weeks then one night I said 'Oh no we've run out of nappies'and that was it. No more nappies at bed tiem and no problem.

Did something similar with DS2.

SweetGrapes · 11/01/2010 17:05

Ds was 2.8. We had just started potty training and I realised actually he is dry all night. Never looked back since on the dry nights but potty training is still iffy. If he's standing around with a sheepish look on his face, guess what...

Dd is 8 (SN). Never ever pooed in her pants since we potty trained at 4. But still wet at nights...

Go figure.

Bonsoir · 11/01/2010 17:08

DD was about 2.5 but I kept her in nappies at night because she would wee first thing in the morning as soon as she got out of bed (and she wasn't toilet trained!).

thedollshouse · 11/01/2010 17:10

Ds was 4.2

IndigoSky · 11/01/2010 17:12

Ds1 - 3.0
Ds2 - 3.7

Oddly, because I didn't know there was a difference, once both DDs were dry during the day (2yrs 10 months and 26 months), I didn't put them in nappies at night - and neither of them wet the bed ever. Have no idea why, am not smug because it was an accident, so to speak.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 11/01/2010 18:46

It is so different isn't it? When people say their child was in nappies and one day they ran out and then child was dry, it does make you think that the child can control it and maybe wees because they have a nappy on, but if it is all hormonal it really has to have been a coincidence.

Both mine sometimes get bothered that they aren't dry at night. I try to reassure them.

night time dryness and daytime dryness aren't linked - although sometimes the hormone for the nighttime will kick in early enough to co-incide with day time training.

As for the night time dryness - it's not considered a problem until they're 7yrs old

I can't find the figures now - eric website has changed since I last looked at it. But the numbers up to 7yrs old and pretty high, and even older than that still remarkably "common"

Metatron · 11/01/2010 19:05

Did sod all. DD1 was 2, day and night at same time, has never wet the bed. DD2 was 20 months has had one wet bed, did daytime at the same age. Never lifted.

nickytwotimes · 11/01/2010 19:09

Ds was 3.4, not long after daytime.

I am however aware that this may not last forever!

MollieO · 11/01/2010 19:12

Ds - 4.5. I decided only to stop night nappies when ds was dry for 14 consecutive days. We had lots of 9/10 days before we eventually got to 14. No accidents.

MrsMattie · 11/01/2010 19:14

DS was 3 yrs old exactly. It was quite miraculous, really. He was one of the last children in his class to potty train, but got it within days and has wet the bed only once in his entire life (and that was when he was ill). I can't take the credit ofr it. I honestly believe it's one of those things they do when they are ready.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 11/01/2010 19:16

20 months is impressive!

Is it genetic?

MIL lifted DH and he was dry before school.
Not entirely sure when I was dry at night but dry in the day before 2 1/2 years.

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 11/01/2010 19:17

my SIL's DD2 was dry day and night with no effort at 22 months - she was so embarassed telling me as the time we'd just got DS1's referall through for the bed wetting clinic.

I think some of it is genetic.

TheFallenMadonna · 11/01/2010 19:19

About 2.6. Same as day dryness. My DC are like desert rats though. They rarely wee

edam · 11/01/2010 19:19

Four, maybe four and a half.

rookiemater · 11/01/2010 20:22

3 3/4 fingers crossed ! DS is desperate for a cabin bed but we have said he can't have one until he sleeps without nappies, this has been going on since last August. Tonight he suddenly decided after a play date to his friends who has a cabin bed, that he will go nappy free, hope we don't have too many accidents.

Metatron · 11/01/2010 20:28

Genetic - certainly not on my part, I was a bed wetter until high school.

UniS · 12/01/2010 10:36

2.5
after 2 weeks of dry pull ups at night and his waking and asking to go to loo if he needed to. I asked him if he wanted to wear a pull up or just PJs, he's only wet the bed once or twice in the year and a half since.

giveitago · 12/01/2010 21:37

I'm with serenity - mine was 12 months old when I noticed that he was a dry upon waking and for about 30 mins after. So once asleep at night I took off nappies. He's had one night accident at just over 3 years old.

However, managed to get him potty trained at just over 3 years old. Has daytime accidents though sometimes.

He's an upsidedown kid.
