If you did nothing at all, how old was your child when they were dry at night?

I mean no lifting, no going cold turkey, just letting them wear nappies until they could go all night and were subsequent children younger or older?

DS1 was 7 1/2 before we knew he would be dry every single night.

DD had 11 dry nights at about 5 but is now 6.5 and in pull ups at night.

DS2 is 4.7 and I haven't even tried anything though sometimes he thinks he can be dry.

DD was 100% reliable by day at 2.8, but not dry at night until just over 5.

Both my dcs were dry at night almost at the same time they were dry during the day. Dd at 2.7 years and ds at 3.2 years.

cece · 12/01/2010 22:31

ds1 = 4 YEARS and 9 months - about 2 years after he was dry during the day

DD - 3 years and 1 month old about 5 months after she was dry during day.

I didn't do anything. Waited for them to tell me when to leave the nappies off.

DS1 came out of nappies at 2 1/2, was dry during the day in 2 days. On 3rd day HE decided not to wear a nappy at night. Has been dry ever since. Probably won't be so lucky with DS2. Lol
My brother wasn't dry till age 7. Boys seem to have more trouble with this than girls.
Let them decide for them selves and try not to worry them about it. Your probably more worried about it than they are.

DS1 was dry at night on his 3rd birthday. Forgot to put a nappy on that night and that was it. Never had an accident. DS2 took longer. Last accident was morning of his 4th birthday but maybe that was excitement. Now 4.4 and fingers crossed no other accidents

I can't remember for sure with DD, sure it was by the time she was in full-time nusery at almost 4.

DS was a little earlier, about 3 1/2.
We just forgot to put a nappy on one night and the bed was dry in the morning so we decided that they could obviously do it. So, we didn't go back from there, but we did invest in some waterproof sheets!

Ineedsomesleep · 12/01/2010 22:57

DS 2.3 when he decided he didn't want a nappy on at night anymore.

DD is 2.5 and shows no signs of being dry at night yet.

Flibbertyjibbet · 12/01/2010 23:07

ds1 2.5, ds2 2.3

With both of them there were several dry nights as soon as they got the hang of being out of nappies during the day.

So they just came out of nappies at night too, ds2 had a few accidents (didn't bother me, you have to wash the sheets sometime ) but absolutely refused to wear a nappy at night and would scream the house down in the early ours if we'd sneaked one on him after he fell asleep.

If I had left them in night nappies until they were dry every morning then I'm sure they would still happily be weeing into a nappy rather than get up and go to the loo. I notice some posters have said that it happened when they forgot to put a nappy on...
I didn't mind a few wet beds at first, you have to wash the sheets sometime!

Massive gap with my boys dry nights.

ds1 was 3 - being the first and not knowing anything about it all I read children generally can not do it until 3. So at 3 I told him you are 3 now so you can do it, took the nappies away and he did.

ds2 just turned 6 and is still not dry. He hates the pull ups. He has the odd dry week but never continues.

ds3 has been dry as long as I can remember even as a baby.

Thank goodness ds2's best friend also just turned 6 in not dry (sadly he is moving in the summer, so they will lose that suport).

We have disscussed going to doc but ds2 is such a heavy sleeper and the alarms seem so hard to use with ds3 shareing a room and us the next floor up in an atic bedroom, we decided it is best just to leave it for another year at least.

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 12/01/2010 23:23

DS1 was potty-trained by 2.5 and dry at night within a few days.

He was another one who screamed blue murder if we tried to sneak one on him after bedtime.

DD and DS2 were the same age, and I think we just let them be once they were dry in the day.

I was amazed at how easy it was, but I look at it as my reward for having three nightmare sleepers!

Northumberlandlass · 13/01/2010 08:01

Only have one DS and it really was a complete fluke !

He went dry during the day at around 2.7 and was dry in the night about a week after that. Just lucky I guess.

Also agree with OurLady - DS was (is) a nightmare sleeper, so maybe dry in the night was my reward

flyingdolphin · 14/01/2010 13:01

dd - 5.8 (periods of dryness before, but not reliably dry)
ds - 2.6 (dh just forgot to put on a nappy on him when I went away one weekend and that was that).
