If you did nothing at all, how old was your child when they were dry at night?

I mean no lifting, no going cold turkey, just letting them wear nappies until they could go all night and were subsequent children younger or older?

DS1 was 7 1/2 before we knew he would be dry every single night.

DD had 11 dry nights at about 5 but is now 6.5 and in pull ups at night.

DS2 is 4.7 and I haven't even tried anything though sometimes he thinks he can be dry.

I should say DT1 was 3.5 as in (3 and a half). I'm way too slovenly to remember actual months!

PfftTheMagicDragon · 11/01/2010 15:31

dry at night immediately upon potty training at 2.10.

Bleatblurt · 11/01/2010 15:31

3.5 for my DS1 (his brother is only 2 so nowhere near even thinking about it). It was like a switch clicked and he went from nappies (day and night) to not having one ever and having no accidents.

Druidmama · 11/01/2010 15:49

DD1 was 18mths....we had a fortnight of dry nappies so stopped using them, she wasn't dry in the daytime til 3.3!

DD2, we've done EC.

DS was only 2.6, same age as he was dry in the day. We didn;t have to do anything, he just never wet at night.

Oddly, he is a terrible sleeper and (I think) would wake up if he needed a wee from very, very young.

I lost track of the number of times I held his screaming nighttime baby-self, then heard a loud hiss and felt a warm bum (he has a mega-huge bladder capacity), then he would go back to sleep.

Heqet · 11/01/2010 15:53

5 & 6. roughly, when they came out of nappies.

When ds2 was about 5, one morning I took off his dirty nappy, cleaned him up and went to put on a clean one. He took it off, threw it across the room and never wore another one!

ds1, then 6 (there's 15 months between them), obv decided he wasn't going to be left behind so refused nappies too. Although he struggles more even now, poor thing.

Both (dd and ds) were 3.

Katisha · 11/01/2010 15:55

DS2 (8) still unreliable at night...

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 11/01/2010 15:56

DS1 is 9 - we were at the enuerisis clinic this morning with him for his latest appointment........

DS2 is 6 - was dry at night at 3 1/2yrs (he threw a tantrum in the middle of town when I told him we were going to buy his nappies protesting wildly that he didn't want to wear nappies any more - he was already dry during the day at that point - so instead of Boots for nappies we went to Argos for mattress protector.......he''s wet the bed maybe 3 or 4 times since then.

DS3 - N/A - he's 2 1/2 and still in nappies in the day.

posieparker · 11/01/2010 15:59

Boys were 3, one was two months after being dry during the day...the other two days, dd was 19 months to never wear a nappy, she did it all in one day.

With all of them for the first four weeks I would get them out of bed at 10pm and take them awake or asleep to the toilet.

DD has had one accident and she was very unwell at the time, the boys have had about five between them but none since they were 3.5.

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 11/01/2010 16:01

lifting at night isn't recommended really (any eneurisis clinic will tell you the same thing) - especially if they're still asleep as they're not actually learning to wake up to go to the toilet.

It may "work" - in that they are dry, and the hormone which is required kicks in after a period of lifting......but lifting in itself doesn't really work.

NoahAndTheWhale · 11/01/2010 16:02

DS about 3

DD 2.5 I think

flimflammum · 11/01/2010 16:02

Potplant: what was the bladder training the school nurse told you about?
DS1 is 4 and we're trying no nighttime nappies just this week.

mrsshackleton · 11/01/2010 16:02

dd2 was 2.5, just told me she didn't want to wear nappies

With dd1 we had to lift for several months before she finally got the hang of it at 4.4

shushpenfold · 11/01/2010 16:05

DS 7, dd1, 5 but with odd accidents still (7), dd2 2.5 dry on night 1 and never since.

ProfYaffle · 11/01/2010 16:07

dd1 I think was about 3.5, she'd been dry in her night nappy for ages before we had the courage to not bother at all.

dd1 is 2.10 and can go weeks at a time waking up with a dry nappy but the last 3 mornings has had a wet nappy so dunno.

seeker · 11/01/2010 16:10

dd was just under 3. 3 and 8 months I think.

ds was 5 and 1 month.

Crocky · 11/01/2010 16:10

Dd 2 years and 1 week. Completely her decision.
Ds is 9 and has never had a dry night.

TennisFan · 11/01/2010 16:11

My DS was 7 ish I think, maybe a bit older. We got referral to the eneuris clinic - several of his friends were same - their mums would mention is discreetly if they wer having a sleepover right up to very recently and DS is now 10.
DD is 6 and has a wet night every now and again - but she drinks too much milk late at night which the eneuris clinic said is a bad thing.

Lulumama · 11/01/2010 16:12

both of mine were dry at night within a week of being dry in the day, and they were both 3 when they came out of nappies and were 'trained' in 48 hours, they just seemed like a switch had been flicked and they recognised when they needed to go

Undercovamutha · 11/01/2010 16:13

DD (3.5) has had about one wet night a month since she was daytime potty trained (aged 2.3y). However I am so lazy that I keep putting off getting rid of the pullups! I have made every excuse in the book (DS (9m), cold winter nights etc etc) but I will have to pull my finger out and take the plunge soon (definitely when it gets a bit warmer and DD is wearing a bit less to bed!).

thesteelfairy · 11/01/2010 16:15

Ds was dry day and night at just turned 3
Dd exactly the same.

I did not potty train ds at all, just waited until he expressed an interest in the Winnie the Pooh toilet seat that I bought him.

With dd I started putting her on the Potty with fierce resistance from her at just turned 3. She accepted it after one days and she was dry day and night within two weeks.

I am a firm believer in leaving it as long as possible. I honestly do not think there is a need to toilet "train" kids. They will do it when ready.

SnowTulips · 11/01/2010 16:51

dd is 5 next week and still in night nappies.

ds1 went dry all off his own accord at just over 3.

kids are weird
