I have to fill out the assessment form for DS who has a problem with fine motor skills - he is 5. Can you please tell me if your DS can:
Dress himself (including buttons/zips)
Bath himself (I doubt many 5 year olds can???)
Cut up his food with knife and fork
Ride a bike
THread beads

Thanks so much - I have to state how DS compares with other DC of his age and I simply don't know.

My six year old son can Dress himself (including buttons/zips but he finds zips tricky stil) but not tie bows (but then I haven't actually taught him yet)
Bath himself (I doubt many 5 year olds can???)v perfunctorily, doesn't really dry himself properly
Cut up his food with knife and fork with difficulty, left handed
Ride a bike only just learnt a few months ago, but had been on a likeabike (those bikes with no pedals, which really helped with balance and meant the transition was a lot easier than it had been for son no1 who had stabilisers)
THread beads yes v good at this, also loves hama beads

DS is just 4

Can half dress himself. Buttons are ok, zips can be harder. Or when he's not being so opinionated or focused on playing...
Can shower and bath himself but not wash is hair. Wouldn't ever leave him on his own in either.
Cannot cut up food yet. Still wants to be fed at times which is rather frustrating.
Can ride a bike without stabilisers (since 3.5yrs)

DS is just 5
Dress himself (including buttons/zips)- not buttons but yes most stuff fine, one button on jeans ok whole shirt no
Bath himself (I doubt many 5 year olds can???)- Yes, he is ok to wash whole body, can wet hair and add shampoo but we would not allow him to rinse unsupervised, otherwise it would never get washed properly
Cut up his food with knife and fork- sort of, we allow a knife but pre cut most of it and allow him to cut potatoes and veg
Ride a bike-with stabilisers
THread beads- no idea

Ds1, 6.8

Dress himself - not without prompts and buttons take a VERY long time, ditto zips
Bath himself - physically yes, but he just doesn't get on with it
Cut up his food with a knife and fork - No
Ride a bike - No. only with stabilisers
Thread beads - was better at this when he was 3 than he is now, because he no longer seems to have any patience with them - when he was 3 they fascinated him. He could thread Hama beads onto fishing wire!
