What age did your dc cycle without stabilisers?

orus still dont' ds 11 is dyspraxic and scared of the motion, dd probably coudl but has less opportunity and inclination because of above

DS was about 4, DD just recently age 6. Some kids down the road and at their school have been doing so since around age 3!!

About 3/3.5. More by accident really, one stabiliser broke off and we said that's ok and normal and very soon she could balance and we took the other one off about a month later. Job done!

DD1 about 4
DD2 was 2 and 1/2.
Can't remember how old DS1 or DS2 were!

DD last year (4) cycled haphazardy without but not confidently. Not tried since but intending to focus on it this coming week. She's now 5.

dd2 - won't be able to. she has an adapted trike that she still manages to tip over lol.

on the day that ds1 first went without his stabilisers (easter saturday), he challenged his big sister to a bike race. she went over her handlebars and smashed her brand new front teeth on the road. we spent easter sunday at the emergency dentist instead of hunting around the garden to see what the easter bunny had left. ho hum.

Confidently, last year, aged 6y. First tentative goes at 5y.

Have to say though she just isn;t that interested. Before she could, she just never wanted to. She only decided to learn properly as a few friends were starting to and she didn't want to be the odd one out. Even now though, she isn;t that bothered. Although she did love having a tag along at Centre arks so her and Dh could go "zooming" off together.

I am getting a bike next week {hmm] for the first time in many many years. This is so me and DD can go out together in the holidays, even if just to the shops or local park. Wish me luck!!!

DD - just turned 4, and I think it may take her quite some time!

DS1 tried at 5, put them back on, then did it at 6.

My ds was 5 and he LOVES his bike. He is on it and every opportunity, can even do no hands and bunny hops now - I daren't look!

He is now desperate for a BMX.

DTs did it a few weeks ago, within a few days of each other, age 5

DS was 2- on balance bike. 3 on pedal bike, never had stabilisers.

DD did it today!! Age 4.
She has rarely used a bike with stabilisers as she is happiest on her balance bike or scooter. But today we went to the local park, found a small area of grass with a decline and did a few dummy runs with me holding the bike steady and then I let go without her realising and off she went. Not far mind you but enough to say she did it. We're off to a different park tomorrow (where DS learnt) to show DH and DS. She was really keen and enthusiastic. It was lovely

can't remember. Quite young I think. It will be written in the elder one's baby book, & probably not in the younger one's .

9, this year. Never thought it would happen, after many failed ocasions last year, and had to buy a bigger bike, without stabilisers, We thought she wouldn't have the confidence to do it on her own. DH took her out every night to the park for a relaxed cycle, starting with him holding her, and night two she was off! Now we can't keep her in - she is cycling up and down the pavements every night, and would go further if allowed!

Dd1 was 3 but she'd had a balance bike since she was 2 and went straight to pedal bike without stabilisers.

DS1 (nearly 9yrs old) - not et
DS2 (5 1/2yrs old) - getting closer than his older brother - but still a long way off
DS2 (just turned 2) - not yet

ds2 - is only 2 but already pretty good on both balance bike and conventional bike with stabilisers, so I suspect he'll be earlier.
