V quick question: at what age did your child sit unaided?

DH will only book my chosen summer hold if DD2 will be able to sit unaided by the time we are due to go (don't ask...). She is 5.5 months now and not at all physical. She will be 8.5 months when I want to go on hols. What do you think?

about 6 months
until 5.5 months he did very little sitting
at 5.5 months he did the gorilla
and then at 6 months he sat unaided, fine

I fondly rememberthe gorilla from dd1. Dd2 is way to wobbly for the gorilla.

7 months for both mine and they were fairly late

I have to ask tho ...why??!

DS1 was 5/5.5 months i think, DS2 was 8.5 months (delayed development) and DS3 was 6 months

She will be able to by then, I'm sure.

Mine were about 6mths but wobbly.

They can come on quite fast with a bit of practice - cushions around, toys just out of reach etc.

LOL MoM. DU is being unreasonable. It's a beach holiday and he hates beach holidays. Instead of just admitting that he is arguing it will be no fun as DD2 won't be able to sit on the beach and will get frustrated.

About 7 months and she was a very unphysical kind of child. She couldn't roll over until she was about 16 months.

Normal time scale to sit unaided is 6-10 months.

ooh a bumbo out of sand - what a good idea!
In fact you could create your own range of sand baby furniture!

belgo, I thought it was earlier than 6 months - didn't think DS was particularly early

So neither would have met your DH's timescale!

I think children who are more compact and have a bit of bulk do it more easily. Both mine were very long, thin and flimsy!

I like the sand bumbo idea although DD2 is so unphysical that she just flops to the side in her bumbo at the mo.

Is there anything I can do to encourage her sit muscles?

well that's the thing - DS never used his bumbo as his legs were so skinny they just span round in the gaps but in a sand bumbo you could reinforce the sides - plus if she does fall it will be onto soft sand

About 6 months for mine.

At 8.5 months they were all eating a lot of sand given half a chance, though. And it's a pain in the eyes. Tbh I wouldn't want to be too beach-bound with an 8.5 monther.

I have an idea for you. Rather than trying to make your DD sit, why don't you get DH to book the holiday in exchange for some sexual favours of his choice.

I think ds was about 7 or 8 months? Though he was commando crawling and climbing at 6... (I have weird non-sitting children)

Ds was 5mo despite being quite long and having a large head...

DD2 4 months was terribly huge advanced y'know.
