whats normal for 3yo and what do you consider bright at this age?

Just intersted to get a wider perspective as dd1 seems ahead of her friends in all areas from speech to understanding of the world and initiative, logic and maths etc

Mine were well ahead at 3-4 yo, reading writing. Able to hold conversations and understand abstract concepts.

They have all evened out as they got older. It seems that my children peek earlier than average but do not actually have a much higher IQ (although they are still top of their classes, they are not Mensa level IYSWIM).

Your daughter may have or may not, it is difficult to be sure at this age. I can only recommend encouraging and challenging (without pushing).

Knows all colours and basic shapes. Can count to 15 and recognise written numbers up to 10. Can do simple add and minus with 5 objects. Uses positional language and can distinguish between the biggest/smallest of several objects the same shape i.e. circles, squares iyswim. Logical reasoning, for example we were driving down the road and she saw my friends car infront of us and said there is L and L. We followed them to the T junction and they went the way we go to the shops, she noticed they were going a different way and said they were probably going shopping. I asked her what was that way, she replied 'left' which it was. What I was asking was which shop is that way iyswim.

Sounds very similar to my 3 yo.

My eldest was reliably telling the time before he was 3

DD is 3.3. I think she is pretty average (although ahead in some ways of DS at the same age - he is now 5.1 and probably one of the more ahead in his class).

She can understand almost everything I say. Can hold conversations using long sentences where appropriate and can be understood easily.

Recognises a few letters and makes attempts at writing them. Is able to say what sound most words start with (DS def coudln't do that at this age). Draws figures with heads, arms, legs, (wild) hair, no bodies.

Can walk, run, starting to be able to use a scooter. Toilet trained day (20 months), night (2.5).

Understands concept of turn taking. Has good imaginative play.

And is lovely to have around

DD1 is 3.3 .... sounds very similar apart from left and right but I don't know that . I have worried occasionally that she is behind or on a level with her friends who are mostly up to 6 months younger so I am happy!

Ok my 22 mth old knows
Most colours, shapes incl hexagon pentagon
Most letters and numbers 1-10
However he runs into things and has no regard for his safety so I think actually he is not as clever as one would think.
Oh and he sorts washing into darks and lights

Can count up to 20. Knows all shapes. Recognises numbers 0-9 (not sure after that). Knows all colours.

I think as a younger sister of a 22 month older brother, she has picked some things up more quickly than he did.

sounds like dd1 and she is 3.1[today] ds was a lot more advanced than this but now at 5.3 seems to be evening out a little..either that or reception is killing his spiritDD2 was 2 last week and is probably nearly at the same level as dd1.

I'm just interested because I CM and looking at the EYFS she looks very ahead with the learning goals, however, I don't feel the objectives do children justice iyswim i.e. I think that more children can achieve the goals above the age on the goals iyswim. I just wanted a wider view of normal because I live in an environment where everyone has a similar background.

I would say that sounds fairly normal really, when you see her with her friends is she generally more confident than they are?

My dd is 4 and can direct you to various places using right and left correctly, she has never been coached, she just thinks about it and works it out. TBH, I am more impressed that she can visualise a route and work out how the right and left change (well don't change) as you move than using the words right and left.

I wonder if your dd displays herself better in company than some of her peers, some children tend to be more retisent and can come across as being less capable than they would in their home with only their family IYSWIM.

Absolutely - many grown men struggle with sorting washing

I don't think 3 year olds shold have learning goals, it's all daft

my 2.6 yr old is at nursery and next week we've been invited to parent's evening ffs

DS (2.7) can do all of that. He can also tell you all the turnings to go to the mini railway 5 miles away, which is a pain as he complains that we aren't going that way when he wants to and tries to redirect you.

Tis useful skill indeed and also he helps unload the dishwasher.
He may well be a smarty pants ( ffs I think I breed them he is my 3rd smart cookie) but he has to have Life Skills
And toilet training would be ace... < taps fingers and waits>

Ah, I see. I didn't find the goals very helpful for my children who have all been ahead of them. THey are averaged to accomodate most children so it is not surprising for children to be ahead of them (or behind for that matter!)

King that could be the case but I know most of her friends and their mums well and socialise in their homes too. It has been pointed out by their mums not me first iyswim.
She speaks in very long sentences such as 'I think I might take my teddy upstairs because he is very tired' or ' daddy needs to get the tools to fix x because the batteries have run out'.

My 3 yo can't do any of this.

She can,however,give a very loving cuddle

Just be happy with your dd and take it as it comes.She will be who she is,encourage her where you can and love her loads.She is herself.Don't stress.She is loved and that is the main thing.If she is NT then her formal learning will kick in at 5,and if she is G+T it will be recognised then.Love her for her toddler little girlness and enjoy the time you have with her at home before she goes to school.You won't get this time back
