how should i teach my dd to wipe her bum? i am pretty sure from my market research that i dont do mine the recommended way!!! so teaching her is a bit wierd for me.

i know it should be front to back, but does she do it from behind? and can she get her front bits then too or does she need to wipe between her legs for wee and from behind for poos? so confusing!!!

my mum obviously taught me to go between my legs for everything!! iykwim so im not used to this behind wiping lark!!!

should i have name changed for this i wonder?!!

ha ha greedy I was taught the same way as you although I have since gone over to the other side

I think from behind and yes, she can do her bits first before she gets to her bum. I am also teaching my DD but it seems like her arms aren't long enough. Not sure if this is to do with her anatomy or if she's not old enough (she's just turned 3)

mrsmaidamess · 27/11/2008 16:52

I'm a bum first gal myself.

greedygreedyguzzler · 27/11/2008 16:54

i agree her arms dont seem long enough!! but ds didnt have a problem!! maybe his bumhole is further back?!!!..................??

Front first, and then back. Never in one motion, as you risk getting some fairly nasty infections if you wipe poo on your bits.

iheartdusty · 27/11/2008 17:00

Teach her to bend her knees then her arms get longer!

Marne · 27/11/2008 17:02

I'm lazy, i go between the legs but it should be front to back to avoid infection/thrush so i teach dd's to wipe front to back.

DisasterArea · 27/11/2008 17:06

i'm a front end girl and don't have thrush ishoos. although DD1 has taken to telling me how to do it 'properly'.

greedygreedyguzzler · 27/11/2008 17:42

so those of you who get them to 'do it properly' do they wipe at the front first from between the legs and then go round the back for bum wiping? do they get off the toilet or stay on it? ds stays on it and balances as he wipes (feet cant touch the floor obviously!) but i know dh stands up and wipes!!! (TMI????)

Bum 1st. From behind, wipe up towards back. Drop. New paper, wipe front from front towards clit. Although it should be other way.

SomebodyandNobody · 27/11/2008 17:47

No, I wipe bum other way... downwards, not towards back. Hmmm... shall report back in a few hours.

prettybird · 27/11/2008 17:48

If I am just peeing, I do wipe from the front, from the back to the front.

If it's more, then I just wipe from the back, going front to back.

I have short arms (I know that from clothes and/or Pilates exercise, where I can see that my arms don't stretch down my legs as far as other people) and I don't have any problems doing it that way.

prettybird · 27/11/2008 17:49

Oh - and I stand up lsghtly while performing the wiping action.

ChukkyPig · 27/11/2008 17:53

Good grief the things you learn!

Surely you just go front to back, fanjo down and then up past bumhole.

It never even occured to me that anyone did anything different!!!

SomebodyandNobody · 27/11/2008 17:55

If I wiped my bum from the front I'd hit my head on the loo! Or end up with poo on my arm

nooka · 27/11/2008 18:04

I think I sometimes do the front first, and sometimes the back. Doesn't really matter. Two bits of paper, dab the front from the front, wipe the back from the back. dh (and ds because you have to copy Daddy) wipes standing up, which I think is very odd (stand up, bum cheeks stick together, sit down and they spread - ergo sitting is better for cleaning purposes). He certainly uses vastly more paper.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 27/11/2008 18:10

Wow it never crossed my mind that some people wipe their bum by going between their legs - don't think my arms are long enough.

I wipe my fanjo from between my legs to mop up any wee. Then go behind to wipe up poo - wiping from front to back.

I stay sat on the loo for the duration.

BlueCowStillWondering · 27/11/2008 18:23

pmsl - so how do i wipe after that one,? although don't need now

greedygreedyguzzler · 27/11/2008 18:31

HHHHHHhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmm..........i THINK its becming clearer!!

SuperBunny · 27/11/2008 18:49

This is quite fascinating. I had no idea people did it different ways.

Seona1973 · 27/11/2008 19:48

If I have done both pee and poo then I sort out the poo first wiping from front to back. Once that is clean then I wipe the pee by going back (from back of fanjo not from my bum) to front.

Blossomingintoachristmasfairy · 27/11/2008 21:46

Absolutely pissing myself laughing. You'd think at 33 I'd have grown up enough to think bums, poo and wee weren't funny any more. Sorry.

greedygreedyguzzler · 29/11/2008 11:17

anyone else?

Why do baby girls not get nasty infections given that they always have poo everywhere when in nappies?

francagoestohollywood · 29/11/2008 11:30

I think baby girls do get infections. I don't know the rate, but they do. When my dd got ill at 5 days oldone of the first thing they did was to check her urines.
