Does anyone else have a LO who is content to lie in their cots forever in the morning without crying/shouting?

My DS is 2 and has never once woken us up in the morning by crying or shouting for us. He literally either just lies there quite happily looking at the ceiling, or plays with his soft toys, books (that are in his cot) or his musical toy that is attached to the side until one of us goes and gets him.

Once he is up, he is the exact opposite and always wants to be with us, wants us to entertain him etc - he is a very lively child - but not first thing in the morning.

Sometimes, we know he is awake because his music is playing but we have been known to leave him in his cot for upto 45 minutes and he never ever makes a sound (other than the music of course).

When I tell people they are amazed - just wondered if other children are like this?

Wow! You're lucky. DD is 21m and doesn't demand to be up straight away but does start shouting for us fairly quickly. Although this morning she was playing with her singing Iggle-Piggle for a good 15 mins before I went in to get her!

Yes i'm lucky too. Isn't it ace? My ds was the same as a baby and now he's 6 he still gets up and plays quietly until he hears us up! dd is 11 months and lays for AGES just jabbering and dozing on and off from around 7.30am til 8.30am.

Don't know if you find this, but i kind of hate telling people as they seem to think your showing off. It seems you can only talk openly with folk if your baby is an appalling sleeper.

DD1 was like this...in fact she'd often fall back asleep and not get up until 9 or 10 but on the other hand she gave up her naps at about 20 months so eachy peachy.

Oh I know I am lucky - and I am currently 23 weeks pg with baby no.2 and have lost count of the number of people who have said 'oh you won't have another one like that'

Barnsley - yes, it does feel a bit like showing off but I just posted this to see how unusual it is - it is like it doesn't even occur to him to shout us!

As we are a bit obsessed with his sleeping routines - we rarely leave it past 7 before going and getting him as we like to be up and about at 7ish - I wonder if he would fall back asleep if I left him.....

He even does it on my work days when I am up at 7, having a shower, drying my hair, walking around - I try and leave him in there as it means I can get ready in peace and he must hear me but still, nothing!!

Yes! My DD has recently started waking up in the mornings and sitting up in her cot and waiting silently for us to go in. She is 14 months old.

I feel really guilty sometimes if I check the monitor (we have a camera one that a friend recommended) and see she is sat up and then I fall back to sleep for half an hour or so by mistake and then she is left waiting! She has no hesitation in crying if she is upset in the day and doesn't hold back so I know that she must be quite content otherwise she would voice her upset!

She too plays with soft book/toys etc while waiting for us to get up. I do usually wake when I hear her on the monitor moving around and get up but not always.

She has just been through a 3-4 month teething nightmare which really disrupted her usual good sleeping so it's a relief to have her sleeping well again and we really appreciate it now.

Yes my DD1 does that too. She loves the time she gets on her own in her cot when she goes to bed and wakes up. She puts her nightlight lullaby on and also talks away to her toys. It's so cute.

I have been very strict with myself and have put her to bed by 6.30 and thn get her up at 7.00 next morning.

Pregnant now and I know that I wont be lucky the next time.... I think DD1 just takes after me and loves her bed :-)

My ds does this hes 10 months i usually awake to see him playing with his toys or trying to climb the cot! hes usually happy to carry on for a while once im up!

ceebee, I too was routine strict with my first and did the 7am wake. (i followed gina ford). However, i was so tired with my 2nd that when she was still dozing on and off i decided to just go with it! I now get her up on school mornings at 7.30am, but non school i leave her and she does doze often until 8.30am. I just adjust the routine on these days. She's always in bed by 6.30pm.

Don't listen to the folk who say you won't get another like it. I got 2. I honestly think it's about the routine you put in place that makes them so content.

Never. Both dcs wake up screaming for me, if they don't see me right away.

DS is like this. (He's 16 months).

He wakes up and chats away to himself.

If I go in there and put some books etc in his cot, he'll 'read' for up to an hour, while I go back to sleep.

Thought it was just my dd - I daren't ask around in real life! She's been like this from around 1year. I always used to think 'why doesn't she shout me?'

She is normally awake anything from 7am to 8am, we 'go and get her' at 8am. However once after a late night film dh and me slept in til 10.30 and woke to a gorgeous rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star... felt very but she was fine.

Have had the guilt thing but shes 2years 3months now, and is more than capable of yelling 'wake up mummy' if she wants me (am very light sleeper) instead she prefers her 'me time' in her cot. Not interested in climbing out or even standing / sitting up in it, just 'lounges'

Haha just like her dad...

ah both of my dds have been like that dd2 still is actually, she wont lay there all morning but she will lay awake for an hour and never cries she just stands up in her cot shouting "aha mumma" and holding out her arms untill i feel guilty enough to get out of bed and go an get her.

she is also content when playing her cot wityh dd1 so if im tired/ill/hungover i often call dd1 to come and play with her while i go downtstiars for a quiet coffee before the madness of the day proceeds

yes you are lucky - my DS (nearly 8mo) has been known to be awake for a while before he decides he has had enough of his own company and could do with a drink, but as far as I know he usually wants me fairly instantly. But he does usually sleep until 8:30am so I can't complain either way.

DD does this - she will lie there and sing to herself for ages, especially if no-one is up and moving around.

DS would never do it - if he was awake he wanted to be up and that was that.

Strange really since once up DD is more 'full-on' than DS ever was.

my ds does this, he's 6months, he just lies there singing at chatting and cuddling his toy rabbit, but he wakes up 6 times a night between 7pm and 5.30 am and cries and wants feeding and cuddling

So glad I am not the only one!

Stealthsquiggle - that is just it with my DS - he really is a 'full-on' little boy during the day but just seems so happy to chill out in his cot in the morning.

A good example of this is this morning - DH has been away for 3 days so DS not seen him since Monday evening. I got up at 6 to get ready for work and obviously me and DH were talking in our bedroom whilst I was getting ready and DS must have heard DH's voice (and we knew he was awake cos he was playing his music) - but still, no shouting for us! After about 40 minutes, DH went to get him and the minute he saw DH, apparently he shot straight up with a huge grin!! Surely, if he was so pleased to see DH and knew he was in the house, a 'normal' child would have shouted ?

My 14 month DD does this.....she's usually awake by 6.15ish as that's a normal "during the week get up for nursery" time....but if we want a lie-in at the weekend she's happily play in her cot till 7.30....and if I leave it later, she'll have gone back to sleep .....I'm also expecting number 2 and not under any illusions that next one will be the same....

DD (20 months) does this quite a lot, often hear her burbling away to her teddies. When she's had enough she gives us a yell.
