Apparently the phrase most commonly said by parents of young children at A&E is "I didn't know he could do that"

20m ds2 has just opened the cupboard, extracted the Dyson, unwound the cable, removed the 'child-proof' safety cover from the socket, plugged the machine in and switched it on.

Heaven help us.

Spangle - when my dad was a baby he decided he would insert a hair pin into a plug socket - he was thrown accrosss that room and the hair pin melted through his finger - not as clever as your brother obviously !

I've only read a few and I'm already thinking HELP! (DS is 14 months)

Doobydoo · 10/07/2008 11:35

To this thread.Inspired by dp's DIY.DS1 hammered big hole TV,whilst it was on...didn't explode!

2point4kids · 10/07/2008 11:49

I opened the door to the garden this morning and said to DS to play outside while I sorted the baby. He went out and then a few mins later I heard a big bang. Ran downstairs and he is no where in sight!!
After looking everywhere else I found him in the garage on DH's weights bench doing the bench press
He is only 2.

Door to garage is now LOCKED!

He also made a huge line of panty liners round my bedroom all stuck to the carpet a while back while I was in the shower lol

My nephew drank a bottle of aftershave (he stank for about a week). My sister took him to hospital, really concerned because he was acting strangely and kept falling over. One of the A&E nurses had to explain that aftershave is alcohol based and he was pissed!

ProfYaffle · 10/07/2008 12:30

I never had any of these experiences with dd1 (now 4) she was a dream toddler. dd2 (17 months) is going to test me I think. Today she figured out how to open the stairgate and when I took the washing out of the machine, out tumbled dd1's shoes, a pestle and mortar and a toy mobile phone, feebly warbling it's last tune. Hmmm, fun and games to come I fear.

DS1, aged 9 months, undid his nappy and massaged his poo into my study furniture, desk chair (wheels...) and all...

DS1, not even 1, regularly somersaulted out of his crib in a martial arts manner (with grow bag on) and went straight on to a crawling movement (we did later manage to watch his acrobatic moves) into our bedroom (up some steep stairs on the third floor).

DS1, about 1,5, poured himself a glass of white wine, when he woke early and left his crib one morning in the way described above.

DS1, aged 2, managed to get some chocolate out of top shelf of hanging cupboard in kitchen (again wearing growbag) by pushing chair to counter and standing on slippery granite worksurface.

DS2 is only 6 weeks. so far he's only peed himself in the face, but hey, every baby boy does that...

nybom · 10/07/2008 13:43

another one (this ones disgusting!):

DS, from around 1, liked chewing on our toilet brush... actually, we didn't buy it, it was the previous owner's brush, we only kept it... and we had lodgers in our house at the time so there were several people using it...

luckily no harm done as DS1 was breastfed and apparantly had brilliant immune system...

MumtoPhoebeboo · 10/07/2008 14:09

DD, at the age of around 18 months, decided to creatively style her hair using a tub of Vaseline and thus had a greasy look about her for the next few weeks (I even tried washing her hair with Fairy Liquid to cut through the grease but to no avail!).
When my mother was supposed to be watching her, she turned around to find DD babbling on the phone - mother picked it up and realised that DD had dialled 999 - instead of apologising and hanging up, my mother says "Gosh! You answer your phones quickly!"

I once discovered DD asleep with an elastic band wrapped tightly around her finger, with the digit being a deep purple colour. Thank God I saw it and took it off before her finger dropped off!

kerryk · 10/07/2008 14:13

my dd2 has electocuted (sp?) herself twice.

broken her nose and caused dd1 to get her foot stuck in the u bend of the toilet (she was only 8 months when she managed that one).

she is a handful

BlueberryPancake · 10/07/2008 14:20

Last summer, we had some friends over for a bbq. My DS 2yo, and their DD 2yo, managed to a) drag a chair from the dinning room to the kitchen b) climb on the chair and c) take a bread knife from the drawer, and d) stab a large cardboard box that we had left in a corner of the garden.

We could all hear this banging noise and thought they were throwing a ball on the wall or something, only to find them stabbing the cardboard box. They were taking turns to hold the knife! My bloodturned to ice when I saw what they were actually doing. How do you explain that to an A&E doctor?

TinkerBellesMum · 10/07/2008 14:47

I just thought of something I did...

I was 2 and at my grandparents house. Grandad was supposed to be doing a wedding but forgot. The church tried to call but the phone was constantly engaged, so they sent the police around.

They found out I'd been talking to the international operator the whole time!

It ended up in the local paper, it's normally the bride that's late, not the minister!

FabHippyChick · 10/07/2008 15:32

WHAT THEY GET UP TO.....

Years ago I was staying with my best friend, I came home from work and went to use the loo - her daughter, aged 4, was bent over the toilet basin with her back to me.... at first I thought she was being sick and rushed over only to find her vigorously scrubbing said toilet ....... she told me she was giving the loo a nice clean and in her little hand was my toothbrush! - .... after the initial queasy feeling, I went to ask whether she had done this 'loo cleaning' before but changed my mind!!

WheresTheAuPair · 10/07/2008 15:40

DS (19 months) got the front door keys from the windowsil- put them in the lock and opened the front door! Luckily I was hanging out the washing in the back garden and heard door open so went running in like blazes and caught him as he was running down the drive towards the busy road
If i wasn't pregnant i'd have downed a huge glass of wine to stop the shaking. am amazed that he got the right key and managed to open the door-its so stiff its no mean feat. ye gods-boys are terrifying!

YeahBut · 10/07/2008 16:03

Ah yes, mini-escapologist of the world unite... DS managed (at 14 months and still not walking) to pull a stool to the front door, open the lock, get down the garden path and into the road. Was in the kitchen making dinner thinking he was watching the telly. Nearly died when my neighbour appeared with him in her arms after scooping him up.
He's been able to climb over stair gates from 18 months.
Regularly loads the washing machine with shoes and turns it on.
Tried to flush DD1's school shoes down the loo.
It goes on...

dilbertina · 10/07/2008 16:03

DS 20mths, has mastered the art of exiting house via dog-flap, usually he just goes to chat to the chickens but last week he decided it was time to play in sandpit, unfortunately lid was on and he slid underneath it. Fortunately he left his shoes by the side so I was able to pinpoint his location entombed inside a giant plastic turtle.

stoppinattwo · 10/07/2008 16:12

DS at age 6ish i think made a bid on ebay of £444,444 for a ps2 game!!!!

"but mummy im sorry my finger got stuck on the 4!!!"

MmeBovary · 10/07/2008 17:12

Not a dangerous one bu my DD had been practicing her cutting out when I came across the 3 x £10 notes my nan had sent as a birthday pressie, in slivers mixed up with the the magazine cuttings! By some miracle we found all the bits and spent hours sticking them back together....I heard a loud noise one night and when I went to check her found her just about to scale the tower she had built out of 2 chairs and the waste paper bin in her bedroom so she could get to the top of the wardrobe!

Jacksmybaby · 10/07/2008 19:16

What a top thread!

This morning we found my mum's reading glasses in the dishwasher, all sparkly clean!

DS 17mo has in the past also managed to:

  • switch washing machine onto 90 degrees wash ruining a load of delicates
  • swallow the tiny cap bit off the top of the furniture polish
  • eat a ferraro rocher chocolate, foil and all
  • escape out of a locked front door
  • almost escape out of a window by climbing onto a sofa, up onto the windowsill, get the key from the windowsill, put into the lock and unlock it.

Oh and his most bizarre accident - cutting himself right across his cheek with a half eaten breadstick!

Like others, have had many moments of "OMG, HOW am I going to explain this one at A&E?!"

Dh closed door on Dd's finger
Dd fell backwards out of patio door
best one
DD stuck a pea up her nose
all resulting in trips to A&E

Sushipaws · 10/07/2008 21:20

Oh I forgot, my sister cut the end of her finger off when she was 3, slammed in a door. We rushed to A&E with the end of her finger in a tissue, which the doctor then chucked in the bin.

I was always very carefull with doors after that.

jellybelly2007 · 10/07/2008 21:38

DS1 helped himself to a cup of water from the sink in which I was bleaching the dishcloths.
