Are little girls inherently nasty??

Dh (sahd) told me that dd3 and ds23m were watching the next doors dd and friend play in the garden. The friend started asking dd questions and then mimicking her replies (she had delayed speech but is perfectly understandable).

Dh videoed the whole thing but didn't intervene then showed me the video when I got home from work. I couldn't really hear what was being said and the only time she seemed upset was when they were taunting her about having lollipops. The mum next door eventually came out and stopped her being nasty.

Anyway, I was quite upset but dh said "That is what little girls are like".

When I was 8 I didn't pick on 3 year olds. Is it just me?

OP posts:

All children have the ability to be nasty if they turn their mind to it. It's not a girl thing.

Adults often quickly forget just how horrible children can be.

lucyellensmum · 11/06/2008 17:22

that post is a bit off kilter dittany. Maybe the DH is so scared of the OP that he feels he has to video everything and run things by her first before he makes a decision. See how this doesn't make any sense? Its not about their relationship - its just weird on lots of levels, but then i imagine that the DH is cooking his own tea tonight and possibly sleeping on a sofa

paperdoll · 11/06/2008 17:22

[sigh]

I still think people are letting their reactions to his dumb remark take over when the real issue is the weird filming/not helping behaviour.

What he said was extremely silly, but it's hardly the toughest challenge womankind has weathered. I still think he was just expressing what a lot of people think about the different tactics of girl bullies (nasty remarks) and boy bullies (physical stuff). OK, it is dumb, but not the main issue.

Unless I'm cross-posting with her, the OP does not seem to have been around here for a while. Hopefully she is off smashing the camcorder.

ahundredtimes · 11/06/2008 17:23

Pointy. There was a video camera. This is crucial. Your wise words hold no sway here, we have to wait and hear about the videoing.

For me, it all hangs on the use of the video camera.

lucyellensmum · 11/06/2008 17:23

I guess some girls must be though, because there arn't half a lot of bitchy women about not on this thread of course.

ahundredtimes · 11/06/2008 17:23

[looks over fence, video's a bird in next door's garden]

Mercy · 11/06/2008 17:24

And where was your dh videoing from? It must have from some distance away otherwise the dc next door wouldn't behave like that (ime)

ahundredtimes · 11/06/2008 17:25

Good point. There's life in the old girl yet Mercy

God, I'm interested in this now. Why am I so interested?

I think she might have made it up in order to avoid all the 'are you sure your dh heard properly?' type posts.

S1ur · 11/06/2008 17:27

100x that's not very pc to refer to your neighbour as a bird

ahundredtimes · 11/06/2008 17:28

Tell you what, if my neighbour was a bird she would be the Most Perfect Bird in the World.

No idea what that might be. But it would have the best nest and the cleanest feet and the bestest beak.

She's perfect my neighbour.

Hang on, I could video you while we wait for the OP. We could practise for the wedding?

S1ur · 11/06/2008 17:29

Yes yes yes.

Tell us about the videoing.

Where was he standing?
Was a phone or a camcorder?
Do the neighbours know he filmed?
was he filming you garden and just coincidence?

and why did he film and not intervene????

Mercy · 11/06/2008 17:29

lol!

I'm definitely going to check this thread later.

pointydog · 11/06/2008 17:35

Re the video camera. I assumed he wanted to video it to show his wife how the children got on with each other.

Yeeesss. Videoing it is a bit odd. But I am confident there is a perfectly logical explanation (...)

ahundredtimes · 11/06/2008 17:36

But why couldn't he just tell her? AND if he was so outraged why didn't he stop it?

saywhat · 11/06/2008 17:37

saywhat I'd say that was a really extreme situation and am sorry your child went through it, but it really isn't indicative of a general 7yr old girls behaviour. I have one, and obviously, her friends too are this age, they wouldn't dream of being nasty to children like this.

hi victoriansqualor, sorry for quoting you but the thread has gone on quite a bit since then! just wanted to say, yes i do know its not a representative of all 7 year old behaviours (as rather spookily thats what age they did look like!) more that up to date it has always been little girls that have shown a nasty nature to my eldest, rather than boys. but like i say it doesnt mean i then think all girls are nasty and boys are not, just an observation on life with a toddler and children of different sexes :D

paperdoll · 11/06/2008 17:37

I don't think we will ever know ...

pointydog · 11/06/2008 17:40

hang on, can't keep up... I'm videoing my spaghetti cooking

babytime · 11/06/2008 17:43

i dont understand the whole videoing thing???

if i saw a child being mean to another child, the last thing i would do is video it - bit odd and not something i would want my neighbour doing if my child was being naughty or not!!!

pointydog · 11/06/2008 17:44

However, I wouldn't necessarily intervene if my child was being made fun of in the way described in op.

There are so many issues here. This thread has it all.

ahundredtimes · 11/06/2008 17:45

[hugs self]

It is marvellous isn't it? But we really, really need the OP back to make progress.

BoyzntheShire · 11/06/2008 17:49

honestly paperdoll, i was sickeningly nice as a child. wouldnt say boo to a goose. im making up for lost time, apparently. arf.

paperdoll · 11/06/2008 17:51

BoyzntheShire · 11/06/2008 17:56

bumdiddley, really, i am v sorry i offended you.

mistypeaks · 11/06/2008 17:57

BoyzntheShire · 11/06/2008 18:03
