What age did your DCs stop having a bath every night?

Just that really. DCs are 5 and 7 and like a shower in the morning now. Seems a bit daft to bath them every evening too. DH might disagree as that's when he gets to natter to them.

I think it will wash good bacteria off their skin if they are washed twice a day.

Perhaps DH can find something else to do with them in the evening.

ComeOVeneer · 06/06/2008 13:48

TBH I have never bathed my children daily. The have 3 baths a week, more if they get grubbyfrom a particular activity/outing. When mine were babies they both had mild exzcema and the gp said daily bathing (particularly with products like Johnsons) was aggrevating to the skin.

Goober · 06/06/2008 13:50

Oldest is 13. Still has bath every night. He stinks though.

dingdong05 · 06/06/2008 13:51

Def bath in the eve if they have been playing in the muck but I wouldn't have 2 in a day- I agree with crokky, and it does dry the skin out. Why not get dh to do all the stories, getting things ready for the next day etc.

SoupKitchen · 06/06/2008 13:51

always ben bath/shower every other night here, unless we have been playing in mud etc

PortBlacksandResident · 06/06/2008 13:54

Thankyou all. I don't wash their hair every day because i don't think it's good for it.

DH is very hands on in general i just thought he may miss it - time for a new regime in Port Blacksand.

My two are 5 and 2 and they also just have a shower in the morning, they have a bath once a week on a Saturday usually late morning (it keeps them entertained for an hour!!)

castille · 06/06/2008 13:56

My 10 and 8yo girls both still wash in the evenings, but I fully expect them to get up earlier for morning showers when there are boys to smell fresh for

Not that they smell now

francagoestohollywood · 06/06/2008 14:03

I've never given the dc a daily bath. I wash their bum when they poo though

ComeOVeneer · 06/06/2008 14:06

DS (3) is still terrified of the shower for some reason.

francagoestohollywood · 06/06/2008 14:07

Tell me about it Cov. Ds will be 6 in a month time and still refuses to use the shower when washing his hair ...

dingdong05 · 06/06/2008 14:16

My ds is 4 and hates showers. It's a real pia when I take him swimming.

desperatehousewifetoo · 06/06/2008 14:20

My 3yr old dd hates showers full stop and my 6yr old ds, hates them at home but you can't get him out of the shower after swimming!

BlueDragonfly · 06/06/2008 14:26

mine have never been bathed daily.

cory · 06/06/2008 18:34

Nor did mine. Dd has sensitive skin, so we couldn't do it when she was little. We did baths twice a week but not as part of the bedtime routine. Now she is moving towards daily showers (not there yet).

Lots of other nice things your dh can do with them for quality time. I am still doing the bedtime story, though dd is 11; she told me the other night that she'll want me to carry on until she leaves home and when she's at uni she'll ring me before she goes to bed (ahhh).

LIZS · 06/06/2008 18:35

mine never have

Quattrocento · 06/06/2008 18:36

well mine (8&10) now treat it as an either/or thing - so either a bath at night or a shower in the morning.

The only thing that isn't either or but both is TEETH

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 18:37

oh, no, i cant imagine washing them twice a day unless you lived some place really hot.

ours get a bath every other day.

i shower daily.

your water bill must be enormous.

OverMyDeadBody · 06/06/2008 18:38

DS more often than not has a bath in the morning with me. He's 5

MintyandTink · 06/06/2008 18:41

I; d rather wash them in the evening after being out at shcool, then clean pyjamas which we change 3 times a week and bedding which we change twice a week. Dont; think that they need a wash in the am.

MargaretMountford · 06/06/2008 19:09

Elmosgirl · 06/06/2008 19:11

My 12 week old and 20 month old don't have baths everynight. Just when needed usually about 3/4 times a week.

Mercy · 06/06/2008 19:14

Stop? Mine have never started.
