I think urine infections can have this symptom. Either that or it must be psychological. If it continues I would go to gp.

notnowbernard · 31/05/2008 20:57

Get her checked out for an UTI

PinkChick · 31/05/2008 21:01

wouldnt she be sore/painful if she ahd infection?

i used to haev toilet issues when i was a child, my mum did too and passed it onto me, but it WAS all in my head(worrying if i needed the loo, what if there wasnt one?)..but ive always hidden this from dd(said i needed to go wash my hands or something)

DD1 has had an UTI before with no symptoms other than wetting frequently... no pain, no soreness, no temp

Sidge · 31/05/2008 21:04

Might be a wee infection.

Otherwise if she has only recently started toilet training it can be the novelty factor!

PinkChick · 31/05/2008 21:09

no shes 5, thing is shes backa t school tues so am worried it will upset her(as it has been-mainly cos ive been streessed as she NEEDS to go when were in middle of knowere!
shes off monday so ifs no better tomrrow will try and get app for then??

OP posts:
notnowbernard · 31/05/2008 21:18

I would

At least then even if there's nothing physically wrong, you can plan the next strategy!

madamez · 31/05/2008 21:21

I was going to say: my DS does this sometimes but he is recently trained and doing the dog-marking-territory thing - anywhere we go where he sees a loo he has to use it.
Has your DD recently wet herself? Because she might be upset about having had an accident and scared of having another one. Or it may well be a UTI: give her some cranberry juice or lemon/orange barley water (they should help but they will certainly do no harm) and try to get to the GP.

PinkChick · 31/05/2008 21:24

no, shes not wet herself..

she has had bronchitus recently and had AB's, dp just (blamed me!) asked if shed been back to docs since those ab's as her cough is still terrible?..IMO its not terrible, just a cold now?, she doesnt say it when she coughs(weak bladder ruled out), just anytime?

Yep it def sounds like a urinary tract infection. You need to nip it in the bud and get her to the docs asap-they'll prob need a urine sample to clarify an infection is present. Good luck-hope she's less regular soon.

PinkChick · 01/06/2008 18:16

Hi all, shes been the same today but HASS been going a lot mroe, so will take sample in morn and get her to docs, thankyou ALL for your help

lulurose · 01/06/2008 20:43

Hi Pink Chick, Is she drinking an unusually large amount too?

PinkChick · 01/06/2008 20:49

not really...but she did drink more sugar free vimto last week?????..bought as treat and as not at school drank less water and milk????any coincidence?

OP posts:
lulurose · 01/06/2008 20:52

I know that excessive urination coupled with excessive drinking can be a possible sign of T1 Diabetes. I'm sure its not, though, sounds like an infection. Good luck at the doctors.

notnowbernard · 01/06/2008 20:54

GP will be able to test there and then, but might send it off to the lab as well

PinkChick · 01/06/2008 20:59

thankyou..today she has done more wee's instead of just saying she wanted to go..but tonight for the first time in a week or two when i asked her to go to loo before bed tonight she said she didnt need to go(!) as she always sued to say(!?)..so i said just try and she did a big wee!???..so dont know if it is in her mind and saying im taking sample has shocked her out of it? or she does have something wrong and cant tell when she really does need to go?

the only thing i can relate to re wetting her self like MadameZ asked a while back was one night before bed when she been as she stood brushing teeth she looked shocked for a sec..i asked what was wrong and she said nothing but i would tell is was something 'there'..i sadi have you just dribbled a bit(as shed just had wee) she said yes and was embaresed, i said its fine, we'll just change your p.j's...then the only other thing that happend..which thinking of it 'could' be something???..last week she went to toilet when we got in from school, was quite desparate for wee and without realiseing sat down with seat down..she was very upset, but i said it was fine just accident and we'd clen it up..put her in shower, cleared floor/toilet..she didnt seem that botherd afterwards?, but maybe NOW she is panicking incase she 'misses' or doesnt get there in time???

PinkChick · 01/06/2008 21:00

thanks NNB(love the name, hope they can let me know straight away?

OP posts:
PinkChick · 01/06/2008 21:00

isnt it rare for children to get these? remember someone once telling me these things are 'looked into' as children 'shouldnt ' get them????

OP posts:
notnowbernard · 01/06/2008 21:03

GP will use special test strip to test the urine (will look for blood, glucose, protein, acidity etc)

If anything comes up positive he/she will be able to tell you straight away and prescribe an antibiotic, if that's what's needed

If it's negative he/she might want to send it to the lab anyway for a more detailed and sensitive screening

Or they might just say it's nothing physical, don't worry etc

notnowbernard · 01/06/2008 21:06

PinkChick, please try not to worry too much

Am sure dd will be fine. Loads of kids go throughh wetting phases and children do get UTIs
