When did your dc(s) sleep for 12 hours at night?

Okay, I know every baby is different - and I know I shouldn't compare - but I like comparing! And I'm just trying to get a sense of the kind of 'average' age that people's babies start to sleep the whole night through.

I know some people have miracle babies who sleep for 12 hours very early on (like my ds1 who did so at 9 weeks [i was too much of mum novice to appreciate how extremely lucky i was at the time]. Sadly my ds2 is absolutely nothing like this! I also know that there are 2 to 3 year olds out there who have never slept a full night.

But when would one realistically, reasonably expect a little baby to be able to sleep through the night for 12 hours?
When did yours?

10 months and still waking, ooooh, every 3 hours on a good night .... [haggard]

SlightlyMadSweet · 21/05/2008 20:49

never.

Bet we have had is about 10hrs.

Hulababy · 21/05/2008 20:51

I am not sure 6y DD has ever slept for 12 hours in one go - well, not on a normal night anyway. She did sleep for 14 hours once after getting home from the US - jet lag. But that is it.

My sister never slept for more than about 8 hours at a time - ever! She is now 26(ish?) and stll doesn't!

RhinestoneCowgirl · 21/05/2008 20:51

Not yet (well not regularly) and DS is 21 months. TBH I think 10 hrs is the max we're ever going to get out of him.

He did sleep 12 hrs a night for a week when 6 months old, but pretty crap ever since.

I try not to think about it too much, too tired [more haggardness]

K999 · 21/05/2008 20:53

From 12 weeks old (lifted for a dream feed at 10pm till 6 months)and has slept twelve hours, sometimes more since then. She is 15 months now...

DD1 on the other hand still gets up and she is 8!!

garnettopaz · 21/05/2008 20:53

ds1 was about 2 and a half before he slept so long - ds2 waking up every 2-3 hours!!

never here too

dd1 3.3yr only sleeps for 10 hours each night (now - only did this at 2.3yr) we have had an 11 hour stretch a couple of times.

dd2 9mo again only seems to need 10 hours at night - up at least once each night and will sleep through once a week.

Sidge · 21/05/2008 20:55

DD1 - ?5 months (I can't remember exactly)
DD2 - from birth (was very poorly, we had to wake her for feeds)
DD3 - is 20 months and still hasn't slept more than 8 hours without waking up.

oh and dd1 is now getting up at various times of the night to come through and say any one of the following

'i need to pee'
'ineed my night light on'
'my covers are upside down'
'i've lost sheepy'

micci25 · 21/05/2008 20:56

i was lucky both of mine slept through from a very early age dd1 now 4 slept through from about three months and dd2 now 11 months it was about four months.

although before that dd1 was waking very two hours and i was on my own so i had to do all the night feeds

dd1 is a v early riser now and has us up at about 5:30am then crashes out again at about 8! lol

SlightlyMadSweet · 21/05/2008 20:56

An adult typically only sleeps 7-9hrs. Why would you expect a baby to sleep longer.

Granted it would be nice not to get up every 3-4-5-6hrs....but we shouldn't expect them to go to bed 4hrs before us and sleep through until when we want to get up.

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/05/2008 20:59

Another 'never' here. 10-11 hours is a very good night in our house (dd 2.3).

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 21/05/2008 20:59

Slept from 7 till 7 with a wake up,feed and back down at 11pm from 6 weeks and now weaned 6.30 till 7
blessed with two very good sleepers but then I always loved my sleep too!

castille · 21/05/2008 20:59

DD1 - about 5 months
DD2 - about 8 months
DS - about 9 months. He's 22 months now and sometimes sleeps for 14 hours!

FrannyandZooey · 21/05/2008 21:01

never
he's 5

blueshoes · 21/05/2008 21:13

dd 4.8 - never.

She sleeps through and does not nap, but the maximum she will sleep a day is 10-11 hours.

Nemoandthefishes · 21/05/2008 21:15

12hrs solid sleep does such a thing exist???
DS is 4.6yrs and he sleeps 8pm-6am and no nap
DD1 2.4yrs sleeps 8-8.30pm until 5.30am with one 30min nap
DD2 16mths sleeps 7.30-9pm[depending on how tired she is]until 5.30/6am and has around 1hr nap in the day

MabelMay · 21/05/2008 21:18

SlightlyMadSweet, - babies need more sleep than adults because, erm, they're babies... although granted they won't all necessarily ever sleep for 12 hour stretches.

oh and both dds still wake numerous times in the night..tis fun here

mommycat · 21/05/2008 21:19

18 months. Had some brief sleeping all night periods from 6 weeks but it always changed - until 18 months - from then til now, all good. she's 3 1/2 years old and sleeps over with friends occassionally, who also comment on her good sleeping (one friend has a 4 year old who still wakes several times a night). but it seems a lot of children are several years old before they sleep through.

MegBusset · 21/05/2008 21:23

DS 9 months, until about a month ago (he's now 15mo). Has gradually got shorter and shorter, now he sleeps just 10 hours at night . He doesn't normally wake in the night, though.
