How do you make your babies laugh?

DS has the most gorgeous giggle but I have to jump through hoops to hear it. I am exhausted from jumping around, bouncing on the bed and generally acting the fool and sometimes I only get a wry smile!

DS likes being licked

Meandmyjoe · 12/04/2008 17:57

How old is he? DS (8 months) likes to be held in our arms on his tummy whilst we stand and rock him gently back and forth and sing the super man tune!

Meandmyjoe · 12/04/2008 17:59

Oh he also like it if you draw a simple round smiley face on paper and show him it whilst saying "woodaboo" in a high pitched voice! Ahhh the wonders of being a mummy!

sarahloumadam · 12/04/2008 17:59

That is the kind of low-maintenance solution I am looking for !

Now I am starting to wonder how you discovered these things!

Haha, very high needs baby, very bored mummy! Good combination for coming up with ridiculous things to lighten the mood! Also, doing this little piggy in the bath gets a laugh, but no where else, only in the bath!

ClareVoiant · 12/04/2008 18:17

ds has always been fond of sneezing, especially pretend sneezing on a handful of bubbles in the bath that makes them go everywhere. oh, and juggling really badly o the balls fall on the floor.

CorrieDale · 12/04/2008 18:31

Good old fashioned tickling always did it with DS. DD isn't particularly ticklish, but she likes making different noises, which I then copy, and she gurgles with laughter. (But have horrible feeling that this is all about her feeling as though she's in control, which doesn't bode well for the teenage years.) She also likes peekaboo and any kind of clapping game.

katyjo · 12/04/2008 18:59

Throw teddy bear high up in the air, all babies seem to find it hilarious.

Pixiefish · 12/04/2008 19:00

blowing raspberries on her neck

morningpaper · 12/04/2008 19:01

oooh kissing up the arm

start at the palm, move rapidly up with little kisses to the neck

I do this while whispering whoo eez my beeautifool bebe? in my best French accent

still hilarious and the older one is 5

EffiePerine · 12/04/2008 19:04

funny noises (esp repeated nonsense words)
sneezing
coughing
peekaboo
tickling
chasing (OK for older babies)
playing monsters

DS is easily amused

morningpaper · 12/04/2008 19:05

I fall over when anyone sneezes

I am just HILARIOUS me

morningpaper · 12/04/2008 19:05

brimfull · 12/04/2008 19:13

double takes used to send my two into rapturous giggles for some reason

Slubberdegullion · 12/04/2008 19:13

CeilingCat · 12/04/2008 19:19

this method seems pretty successful

Meandmyjoe · 12/04/2008 20:00

I squeeze his thighs and rub his ribs and razz his toes. And chase him. Or say "mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm POP! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm POP!"

It's all in the anticipation

ItsNotYouItsMe · 12/04/2008 21:18

Spinning round really fast so I feel dizzy works a treat

This thread is lovely, makes me want to wake DS up just to make him laugh, but DP just got him to sleep

ItsNotYouItsMe · 12/04/2008 21:18

spinning with him in my arms I mean, he grins and squeals

onepieceoflollipop · 12/04/2008 21:26

Pretend to drop her (but obviously don't actually drop her as that wouldn't be funny)

Also lie baby on floor, get baby sock and keep dropping it on to face, over and over again.

Frizbe · 12/04/2008 21:29

We get ss to do something funny, he's the only one who can get real deep belly laughs out of either of the dd's. Raspberrys on the tummy nearly get dd2, but not with a full on belly laugh
Mind you I've not tried licking dd Flame

mooki · 12/04/2008 21:56

Dropping a chiffon scarf over DD's head (she's 7 months). Am now determined to get video footage of her laughing tomorrow to play to myself when we're having a tough day!
