Feel a bit silly asking this, but worried by the small size of ds1 penis, seems smaller than every one else

I guess if he is, then there is nothing that can be done, but feel clueless about all this being a woman. Does the size of a childs genitals suggest adult size? Don't want to get into a discussion about whether size matters, after all, his future sex life is nothing to do with me.
Just worried that he might be teased now, do boys notice each other's genitals? I suppose to help I should give an indication of size, I suppose it is about an inch in length maybe slightly more, and he is 5.
Am I being totally neurotic to even worry about this?

Well I can't see what you could do about it, but to reassure you I have read that it all tends to even out when erect and it will grow along with the rest of him. my ds1 is 6 and willy size is not on his radar yet and they don't have showers in primary school.

Meandmyjoe · 25/03/2008 19:51

I thought they were all small til they go through puberty? I really wouldn't worry though. He is so young that it won't effect him in the future. I mean, if you think about it, all of him is small right? (in comparrisson to an adult), so I'm sure it'll grow as he does every where else! I'm sure boys don't even think about the size of them until they have a better understanding of sex. I asked my dh and boys don't compare til secondary school (even then only if they have showers after PE which our school never enforced) so he's plenty of time to catch up!

Thanks for answering luckylady, it does seem a bit silly to worry about it, I think it has always been a fleeting thought, prompted by maybe noticing other babies when he was of an age to be changing him alongside other babies. As he was my first I think you worry about every thing, along come two brothers, both of whom seem bigger.

My friend's son's willy is honestly the size of a peanut, and he's 4.

OrmIrian · 26/03/2008 12:03

I've been worried about this before. My DS is 11 and in every other way quite large for his age. But not hit puberty yet and am hoping (for his sake) that things below the waist grow a little too...

snotbuster · 26/03/2008 15:53

I have had this worry about my DS too! He's still a toddler but it is tiny -has been referred to as his 'iced gem' (by v cruel older sisters!) and that's about the size of it. It's also rather pointy - XP was circumcised when he was about 4 and now wonder if it was because of this (the pointyness not the size).
(Hope DS doesn't ever realise his mother has posted on an internet forum about this !)

PrettyCandles · 26/03/2008 15:58

Often the apparent size of the penis is influenced by how much fat there is around the base. Typically a chubby boy will appear to have a shorter penis than a slender boy.

FWIW, ds2's penis seems much smaller than ds1's did at the same age, though I think they're about equally chubby. Or is ds1 well-endowed? Neither dh nor I have a clue, as we are only familiar with two little boy penises! But both of them clearly function , so we think we needn't worry.

Oodle · 27/03/2008 17:05

I was going to post with exactly the same concern! My 5 year old's willy is less than half as big as his 2 year old brother's. My mum reckons DS1's is unusually small and DS2's is pretty big. DS1's willy is about an inch long and tapered at the end. If you start off with a small one, will it always be small?
Does anyone know? I'm really worried for him.

snottyshoulders · 27/03/2008 17:08

Oooh I've also worried about this as ds2 is smaller than ds1, but also ds1's willy also ....ahem...stood to attention very early (a few months old), whereas I've never noticed ds2's doing this (age 2). Does that matter? anyone know?

cadelaide · 27/03/2008 17:08

snotbuster - "iced gem", that's so cute!

mymatemax · 27/03/2008 19:41

ds1's is small... I think its genetic

Desiderata · 27/03/2008 19:43

I think genetics may play a part ...

Lauriefairycake · 27/03/2008 19:47

They all end up roughly the same size and unerect they vary hugely. It's hard (fnar-fnar) to not be crude but I once bonked a bloke with a one and a half inch inch knob and it grew to perfectly normal size.

If they had retarded penile growth it would have been noticed earlier, it is something they check for I think.

hippipotami · 27/03/2008 19:49

Ds also has a very small willy. Much much smaller than his peers (not that I have been looking, but when ds and his friends do the 'naked bottom dance' in the communal changing room at the pool - with all us mums present as we are persuading them to get dressed - it is pretty hard not to notice)

Dh is not that well endowed when flaccid (sorry, tmi) and reckons he was teased at secondary school over the size of his manhood. He is worried ds will be too.

Guess we will cross that bridge when we come to it, nothing I can do to change it.....

shrinkingsagpuss · 27/03/2008 19:49

Perhaps we should ask sme of our DH's what size thir willy's were when they were young?

DH's doesn't look that big, but it certainly performs. DS's looks ok to me, but someof his little friends seem quite small.

I guess on the whole you can work on the principle that if they inhrited the size from your Dad, they'll be ok, as he fathered you. If tey inheited the size from THEIR Dad they'll be ok too... .

Sorry. Talking bollocks tonight.

shrinkingsagpuss · 27/03/2008 19:49

. my god, just re read what I wrote.

justhavingamoan · 27/03/2008 19:50

ive worried about my ds's. ds1 is avg i think, but ds2 is tinyyyyyy. makes me v paranoid as my sisters eldest (7yo) has a huge penis for his age, around 3+ inches long.

i guess as women though we never really know what is avg.

DH thinks they are fine. i hope they grow though!

hippipotami · 27/03/2008 19:51

s'ok shrinking, I am cringing about mine too....

My ds has rather a long schlong. The boy next door, who is four years older than him, is tiny by comparison.

They're all different, but as others have said, when erect, a penis can morph into something else entirely!

sherby · 27/03/2008 19:57

started a thread about this before

Anyway we have been to the urologist about it and he laughed and said 'I don't mean to offend but your son is rather chubby and has a big fat pad, if I push down on it his willy will pop out'

He told me honestly not to worry about it and that he had a normal sized penis but it was just buried underneath the fat. He said that as DS thinned out it would pop out more.

Hope this helps

Lauriefairycake · 27/03/2008 19:57

Desi,

am now thinking of penises actually morphing into Morph from the Tony Hart show
