DD (4.11) goes to bed by 6.30 every night, and gets up around 7. She happily plays in her room for an hour or so in the morning before starting to mither me for breakfast!

Surfermum · 27/02/2008 20:58

DD 4.9 goes at 7.00 pm, occasionally earlier if she's really tired, and sleeps to around 7.30. Again if she's really tired I have to wake her at 8 to get her to school on time.

liahgen · 27/02/2008 20:59

my 10 yr old goes at 8, 8.30 at the latest.

10 yrs 8, 8.30, gets up bout half 7

13 yrs 9pm gets up 7

onepieceoflollipop · 27/02/2008 20:59

dd1 4.1 years. Bed 7pm-7.30pm. Awake any time from 6.30 onwards, usually 7ish. So about 11-12 hours

dd2 (6 months) won't tell you but it isn't good.

PanicPants · 27/02/2008 21:02

Ds 2.6 is in bed by 6.30 - 7pm at the latest. Sleeps until 8 the next day. (But if I'm working Ihave to wake him about 7.15. So nautually he sleeps 13 hours, but on work days 12 hours.

He has between 2 and 3 hours sleep in the afternoon too.

(I know, I know - I have been blessed with a sleep loving child - makes up for the temper tantrums in between )

sweetkitty · 27/02/2008 21:02

DD1 (3.7) DD2 (2.1) both go at 8pm and they are up between 7.30-8am. Both don't have naps now.

emandjules · 27/02/2008 21:03

when i was at primary school, i often stayed up til 11pm on school nights. DD still gets 10.5 hrs unbroken sleep. don;t think time is important, more that they get enough sleep. DD is never tired after school. anyway it means me and dh get to spend quality time with her.

dd aged 4 goes at 8pm and wakes at 7am.She used to go at 7pm but when she turned 4 we extended it till 8pm which is good as ds 12 weeks goes to bed at 7pm and wakes at 5.30am so dd and I have time together between 7-8pm which is nice

PanicPants · 27/02/2008 21:03

9.30pm is far to late for a 5 year old imo. [PP puts teacher head on]

oggsfrog · 27/02/2008 21:03

Dd 8yrs usually goes to bed at 7.30 and reads until lights off at 8.00 to 8.30. I wake her at 7.30. If left she would sleep until about 8.00 to 8.30.

fingerwoman · 27/02/2008 21:05

ds1 (3) goes to bed at 7/7.30 and gets up at 8ish

K999 · 27/02/2008 21:06

DD2 (1yr) goes to bed at 6.30 - gets up at 7am
DD1 (8yrs) goes to bed at 8.00 - gets up at 7am

Neither wake up.....

emandjules · 27/02/2008 21:06

I have tried putting her to bed early but she just kicks off for hours cos she is just not tired, and believe me I would rather get up at 8am than 6am - not a morning person,

JingleyJen · 27/02/2008 21:06

DS1 is 3.10 6.30 bath bed by 7.15pm awake 7-7.30am plays in room till 7.30 if he wakes earlier. so about 12 hours

DS2 is 16 months 6.30 bath bed by 7pm we wake him at 7.30 he would sleep to 8am I think so 12.5 hours he sleeps for 1 hour in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon.

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 27/02/2008 21:07

I think children should be in bed early for other reasons. One is that TV had too much adult content past 7pm when soap starts and certainly after 9pm for that reason I went to bed at 9pm till I was 16 (very strict parents!!)I know some people dont have the TV on though

Other is when do we get time alone.I think thats important too

fingerwoman · 27/02/2008 21:07

I am guessing emandjules knows how much sleep her child needs?
I have a friend whose little girl doesn't sleep much. she is generally in bed at around 10pm (she is 3) and up by 7am. she just doesn't seem to need much sleep

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 27/02/2008 21:09

A child may not appear tired but they may have poor concentration and this shows when they start school

emandjules · 27/02/2008 21:12

i know children who are in dd class who's kids go to bed at 7pm and sleep all night. Then come home from school and lie on chair cos they are too tired to do anything else. DD must be one of those who does not need much sleep. We normally have nickjr classics (Rainbow is a masterpiece) on til 9pm, much more fun than eastenders.

dd 17m bed at 7.30pm up at 7.30am plus 2 hours in the pm.

suits everyone, she goes to bed later during the hols. Bedtime isn't set in stone for kids if they're waking up naturally and not flaking too much during the day then it doesn't matter what time they go down.

I'm not of the school of getting her off as early as possible TBH. I like sleeing til 7am and I also like spending a bit of time together as a family in the eve.

JingleyJen · 27/02/2008 21:13

Am interested emandjules, what made you start the thread?

emandjules · 27/02/2008 21:17

maybe i like a debate

OP posts:
emandjules · 27/02/2008 21:18

no seriously, just seeing if dd was going much later than average. I didn't post to ask for approval, just out of interest

OP posts:
JingleyJen · 27/02/2008 21:19

I wasn't having a go, I find threads like this fascinating.. just wondered thats all..

emandjules · 27/02/2008 21:26

I'm struggling with ds (7y). Sleeps later and later, getting to 8.30pm nowadays. Wakes up at 6.30 or so. If I try to get him to sleep earlier he wakes up even earlier.

TV not a problem , "my kind" of TV usually starts at 9pm. DH usually not home till 8pm so gets to see him briefly.

But was brought up with:
children of 7 and under should go to bed at 7pm, 8y at 8pm and after that 15 min later for each year (at least I think that was the rule but we never stuck to it at home!!!)
