im elizabeth which i neither like nor dislike although i do think it sounds a bit posh, not at all like me, and my dd is leah. we call her lulu though. when she was tiny, we used to call her lulu in a really big high voive, like that harry enfield sketch with kathy burke. and it just stuck. she doesnt seem like a leah anymore.
when she was born, i was dopey on pethidine, and the midwife was stood, pen in hand, asking what i was going to name her.
seeing as i thought it was going to be a boy, and my dh wanted to call her sierra, i just chose one of the names we had picked.
if i had known we could have waited to name her, i would have done, and chose something else while not so drugged up!

I hate my full first name, it rhymes with diarrhoea but has one extra syllable - having grown up with 3 big sadistic brothers I've been careful to avoid giving my children names that rhyme with anything disgusting, and I only use the first bit of my own name. I don't like that either! My children all like their names.

moljam · 21/12/2007 16:12

my children all seem to like their names although ds1 did go through stage of first only answering to peter-not his name, peter pan fan, then rainbow.

RudolphtherednoseEANDHdeer · 21/12/2007 16:19

my dd's are

Ellie (Pippa middle name)
Hattie (Alice middle name)

Ellie is often called smells or bird (when she was little she was like a baby bird when eating) Hattie tends to get called Hats or Toots (not sure where that comes from)

They seem to suit them and they havent objected to them (........well yet they are only 3 years old and 11 months!)

My name is okay but I am named after a Beatles song (was playing in pub on my Mum and Dads first date in the pub) and its ok but I went to school with 3 other people with the same name in my class

moljam · 21/12/2007 16:20

michelle my belle?

5goldrings4MONKEYBIRDs · 21/12/2007 16:20

I can't say our names, they'd be far too identifiable.
My name is very unusual, I hated it as a child, I always wanted to have a plain name. I like it now though, although it's annoying when introducing myself and people always get it wrong/ spell it wrong.
My Dc's have not so much unusual names but rather not too common names, so far the only one old enough to have an opinion is DS who absolutely loves his name.

BibiJesus · 21/12/2007 16:32

Carys, Eleri and Lowri. Love them. Not sure what the dds think though, they're too little yet. Not sure they'll like their middle names at all though!

moljam · 21/12/2007 16:33

5goldrings4MONKEYBIRDs -hey jude?
hatrick-love your dc names

yogimum · 21/12/2007 16:34

Hatrick, your children have gorgeous names. If I had a little girl I would love to call her saskia. DS is Henry, dh chose it and it has really grown on me and he suits it.

MinesALemsip · 21/12/2007 16:52

DS- Raphael (compromise choice) but we call him Raffy which I think is quite nice. Me - horrid name, not going to tell.

Bibijesus I love your daughters names..

Girls names are so much easier I find!

Theghostofchristmaspyjamas · 21/12/2007 17:05

Dylan

Lucy

Alice

Gabriele

Poppy

I think they like them although Gaby often changes her name to Stephanie or Roxy depending on her mood

We also had a Hannah too

alexpolismum · 21/12/2007 17:41

BibiJesus - what beautiful names! I especially love Eleri and would love to call my baby that if it's a girl. Do you by any chance know what it means?

MerryAnnSinglemas · 21/12/2007 17:43

great names there hatrick !

glaskham · 21/12/2007 18:02

ds is called declan denis, and dd is bethany louise.

they both seem to like their names....but sometimes ds decides he's called batman or spiderman or something superhero and will only answer to that name for the day!!

i'm called gemma...hate it as its so common and when i was at school there were 6 of us gemma louise's in one school year, 3 in the same class!!...though my sisters are called chantelle and tarnia and i wouldn't like that as its too rare and not my personality....i suit gemma, but wish i wasn't one!!haha- that doesn't make sence at all!!

nutcracker · 21/12/2007 18:05

Dd1 - Lauren Amy
Dd2 - Chloe Eloise
Ds - Harry Thomas

I wanted Dd2 to be called Eloise Olivia.

Mine is Emma Clair, I like Emma but not as keen on Clair (no offence to any Clairs).

RudolphtherednoseEANDHdeer · 21/12/2007 19:39

1st guess right moljam (its even on our wedding dvd teh part where I am leaving my parents house and arrving at the church)

some beautiful names on here love nutcracker, hatrick, pj's,bibi jesus

Funnily enough we decided dd2 would be jessica or charlotte after we found out the sex until night before c section then we randomly changed it to Hattie (and then debated about whether to have Hattie or Harriet )

BibiJesus · 23/12/2007 23:00

alexpolismum - it's Welsh, the name of a river - and if you say it to sound like celery then you're saying it wrong!

elle-AIR-ree

it's also a name used in Welsh legend, Eleri was the daughter of a leader of some sort... we just love it.

TenLordsaLapin · 23/12/2007 23:03

I'm Jane (there are LOADS of us on MN) and it's v v v dull and boring, I don't like it.

DS is Henry, which I love, it was a toss-up between that or George. He's too little to have a view on it! and he probably thinks his name is "Weebs" anyway

frostythesnowmum · 23/12/2007 23:25

I'm Cheyenne
My lo is Elijah

janeite · 23/12/2007 23:28

Lots of lovely names on here, especially Alice, Hattie and Elijah. Hattie was one of my favourites but dp didn't like it so we had an Isobel instead. She says she likes Hattie better!

MegSophandEmma · 23/12/2007 23:29

My name's Clare

dds' names are Megan Sophie and Emma

Like my name now as an adult, the girls keeps alternating their names around with each others

FrostytheSnowNorris · 23/12/2007 23:30
