Ds said 'Harry' - our cats name - at 10 months ish, and now says Mummy and Daddy at 12 months.

Nice to know we're below the cat in the pecking order.............!!!

TheYoungVisiturkeyandstuffing · 20/12/2007 21:42

DS said lots of mamamama dadada stuff from about a year on, which in my fond heart I pretended were "mummy" and "daddy" and possibly were but his first non-burble word that I could put my finger on was "shoe" at about 15/16-ish months. He didn't properly start echoing and repeating words until about 18 months.

Now he's 19 months and it's like he turned a corner! So many new words - "uck" for duck - lots of "ello" and "ba-bye" and he reads along with his books - well not reads, obviously! but like in his Meg and Mog book there are lots of sound effects like "boom" and "bubble-bubble" and "miaow" and he recognises the picture and shouts them out when we get to the page. His favourite is "boom". We sometimes have to read that page half a dozen times before we are allowed to go onto the next page (sigh...)

DD1 - duck - 10 months

DS1 - yes - 11 months

DS2 - dog - 13 months

DS3 - bird - 13 months

(DD2 is 9 months. No words yet)

BroccoliSpears · 20/12/2007 21:55

Mamamama and Dadada first, then the dog's name at about 12 months.

llareggub · 20/12/2007 22:26

Mine said cuddle at just under 12 months but we suspect he said cat earlier.

PussinWellies · 20/12/2007 23:17

ds1 teddy at 11 mths, daddy at 13 mths, TinkyWinky, Dipsy, LaaLaa, Po, WAAAY before any attempt at Mummy;
ds2 cat pronounced 'attack', no idea how old, I wasn't concentrating by then;
dd1 'row row row' [as in the song) 9 mths, then 'hello', used from depths of pram to great effect whenever old ladies peered in.

dd1 aged nearly 2 also overheard another anxious parent saying to me 'Gosh, doesn't she talk a lot? My S only says about 6 words', and chirped up, 'I can say six words, Mummy. One, two, free, six!'
Not sure she's ever shut up, actually.

knittingmama · 20/12/2007 23:26

does mamamama and dadadada count at 7 mos?

snorkle · 20/12/2007 23:59

ds: 13 mths, "duck" (yet another duck!)

dd: 12 mths, "tiger" (not sure why - it wasn't the name of a pet and she'd never seen a real one, only pictures in books)

havalina · 21/12/2007 00:36

DD 7 months orange
DS well it's hard to say really, he has said Mamama for a while, and he tries to say all gone, but nothing really clear yet (14 months)

MeMySonAndI · 21/12/2007 00:52

minorityrules · 21/12/2007 01:17

walkinginaWILKIEwonderland · 21/12/2007 08:31

My BF LO says 'Duck' but he means 'Look' as he says it whilst he is pointing.

My DS (same age 11mo) says Dada and that is about it. No sign of MaMa yet.......I'm not bitter

isaidhohoho · 21/12/2007 08:40

DS1 - yuck - age 2 yr 4 mths
DS2 - yeah - age 11 mths

There's 19mths between my two, but DS1 has only been talking for 2 months longer!

My ds said 'teddy' at ten months

my mum freaks people out by telling them that my brother's first EVER word was a full, grammatically correct, sentence! I don't know how old he was but on mum attempting to spoon feed him something, he stopped her and said "I'll do that"....

Not "I do that" even, it was all enunciated perfectly! She said it really made her jump.

tastychristmaspud · 21/12/2007 09:00
