DD was duck at about 13/14 months I should think, but she really wasn't an early talker at all (I was quite worried at one point) and only now, at just turned 3, is she really speaking properly (now she won't shut up)

DS is 9 months and has been saying 'hello' for about 2 months . He can also say DD's name and 'mama' discriminately, and 'dada' more indiscriminately but pretty often to or about DH

i don't think he's as physical as DD though

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 20/12/2007 01:14

DD's was 'duck' I mean...

hatwoman · 20/12/2007 01:17

dd1 "bye" - can't remember when

dd2 "wantgetout" - about 14 months

PortAndLemonaid · 20/12/2007 01:48

It took DS quite a long time to add "no" to his vocabulary. He made up for lost time, mind you...

minouminou · 20/12/2007 15:18

DS said "bye" at around 11 months.
other than the mama dada deedee stuff, he's added "yay!" and "tally" (occasional) for the dog.

Weegle · 20/12/2007 15:46

"duck" at 9 months - seems a popular first word.

then nothing till "tractor" at 14 months. still his favourite word at nearly 19 months

bobblehat · 20/12/2007 15:55

my ds1 said more at about 10 months - funny as his name is Oliver.

Ds2's first word was cheese - we were having some family photos done at the time. He was about 15 months

BarbieLovesKen · 20/12/2007 15:55

dds first was "mama" at 5 months,

"dada" and "nana" at 6months,

"cat" "dog" at 7months etc..

Blandmum · 20/12/2007 15:58

dd1 11 months Teddy

ds1 13 months Air Cock (helicopter)

mumofhelen · 20/12/2007 16:06

dd - no, more, now, at around 18 months
ds - mum, more, hello at 9 months.

Hulababy · 20/12/2007 16:07

DD said mumma and dadda at 6-7 months - aimed at the right person, not just random sounds. She spoke pretty early I think.

IIRR "tacta" was her next identifiable word a couple of weeks later - next door was a building site for a while and there was a huge tractor in the garden for ages.

ineedsunshine · 20/12/2007 16:12

The first sentence ds gave us,.. please sleep mummy's tired - whilst patting my back.......

thebecster · 20/12/2007 16:12

dada at 6 months, mama at 12 months (how annoying).

One of mum's friends, her DS's first words were when he was 4. They'd been really worried, had his hearing tested etc. Then aged 4 she told him not to do something & he replied 'It's a free country'. Not a word before that. He came top in his year in the country for all his exam results - o levels, a levels, everything... So 'late' doesn't necessarily mean less bright, clearly!

CatIsSleepy · 20/12/2007 16:22

slim, no was one of my dd's first words at around erm 16/17 months? or maybe sooner? god you'd think I'd remember, it wasn't that long ago...

and it's still an enduring favourite

interspersed with the usual mamma/dadda type stuff. and bye-bye...

then car was the next distinguishable word

mehdi · 20/12/2007 21:13

said dada at six months then hardly nothing until saying all gone at seventeen months my mum says to enjoy peace why it lasts!

wheelybahhumbug · 20/12/2007 21:18

'atchoo' at 10 months (is that a word ? It was said as a word if that makes sense) but if that doesn't count it was shortly followed by 'hiya' .

ScaryHairy · 20/12/2007 21:21

At about 9 months we got "mama", "dada" and "tickletickletickle"!

CarGirl · 20/12/2007 21:24

dd1 "star" at 9 months, she started young and is still going strong at nearly 11, was talking clearly and in long fluent sentences from about 16 months - our dentist remembers double checking they had the right date of birth her speech was so advanced!

My youngest 3 are all late talkers, one has had speech therapy and the youngest may be heading that way too.

IdrisYouaMerryChristmas · 20/12/2007 21:26

I have no idea what DS and DD's first words were or when they said them .

And they're only 4 and 2 .

DS spoke a bit earlier than DD but that's all I can remember.

MegaLegs · 20/12/2007 21:29

DS1 star (no idea what age, it's in his baby book though)
DS2 - tractor
DS3 - tractor
DS4 - tractor

MegaLegs · 20/12/2007 21:30

Although DS2 used to point at stuff from a very early age and say "Waddat?" (What's that?)

Nemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 20/12/2007 21:32

Ds was around 14mths and it was fish
DD1 was 12mths and was hiya and baby[dd2 was born]
DD2 is 11mths and can say hiya, milk,ta and egg for some reason but its what she calls her teddy.

suzi2 · 20/12/2007 21:36

DS I couldn't be sure. He wasn't really saying much (well, other than babble!) before age 2 and we became so unconfident that he was actually saying stuff we dismissed it. He probably said car or something at about 15 months.

DD is 10 months and says "bye bye", "ta", "gan dad", "down" and (ironically as she doesn't do it) "night night". We were sure we were hearing things as she's really only a few months behind DS! But they're quite definate. No mummy and daddy oddly.
