Some how I figured Gran wasn't quite as pleased as you or dd.

Proud moments of mine over last week are - ds is blowing kisses to his childminder as I leave which are just so cute as he forgets to take his hand away from his mouth; he has learnt how to stack his own blocks and then knock them down; he's over his flu and back to his normal self which is a joy to be with; he continues to give me those wicked little grins that I just love and can't get enough of.

lou33 · 01/05/2003 17:55

Proud of ds , who got his gaiters for the first time today, and wore them for 25 minutes without complaining (once they were on), while playing catch, and even managed to stand with a straight back (ds has cerebral palsy) for a bit. Heart swelling moment.

eidsvold · 01/05/2003 21:02

Lou that is brilliant - well done to your son....

Jimjams · 01/05/2003 21:07

brilliant Lou- special moment.

janh · 01/05/2003 21:10

lou, are gaiters like what used to be called calipers, only without the metal bits? (Or with the metal bits?)

Well done to him and you, and chatee and her DD, and eidsvoid and her DD (and everybody else's babies too but especially yours, all your childrens' achievements are so much more of a step forward.)

Meanmum · 01/05/2003 21:11

Wonderful Lou. Touching moment for you and the family.

slug · 01/05/2003 21:41

The sluglet has a vocabulary of very useful words, such as: Daddy, teddy, cheese, Brie, bye bye, that!, bath, balloon, doggy and keys. This evening she pointed at me and said "Mummy"....At last.

lou33 · 01/05/2003 21:48

A good day for both of us Slug!

Janh they look like wrap around cricket pads. Go from thigh to ankle so he cannot bend his knees, and done up with velcro.

It's been fairly good for ds all round today. The dietician said she was pleased with the progress he has made with overcoming his food allergies, so he can now eat wheat freely, and is allowed to try small amounts of dairy products. Then the orthoptist said he doesn't need to go back to eyepatching as he is using both eyes equally . Only slight downer is that they want to schedule him in for surgery for his squint, but we knew that was coming anyway. It's been a whole day of appointments, I really need my night out tomorrow!

MABS · 02/05/2003 18:35

Have a lovely evening Lou and well done to ds for getting through all those appointments.

Jimjams · 03/05/2003 21:43

great news lou- hope the night out went well.

Lots of proud things for ds1 (4 in 2 weeks time and autistic)

He's been on a beach for the first time in 8 months (used to scream the place down and refuse to get out of the car).
He had new shoes fitted and didn't scream or try and kick the lady. Last time it took three of us- Mum to hold him down, me to hold his leg, and the fitter to try and shove shoes on his foot- so unbeleivable imnrovement.
He walked round SOmerfield with me without screaming when I stopped to browse- and passed me things I asked for. He even queued!!! (unheard of)
He's pointing at everything (big thing in autism). He's been able to point for a couple of years- but he's pointing out things all the time now.
He's been playing with ds2- and giving him kisses.
He's started scribbling with pens this week- until then he's pretty much refused to hold a pen. Suddenly he's producing multi coloured pictures. if he's given a fat felt tip he almost hold it properly.
He came out with 2 sentences (un a oo- ah un mmdam- done a poo I want toilet).

This all coincides with the introduction of enzymes to break down casein- milk protein in his food.

I'm pretty proud of ds2 (16 months) as well. He's started walking and talking. He even says te-tu for teletubbies- which is what ds1 used to say before he stopped talking. Felt a bit strange when I heard him say that.

Marina · 03/05/2003 22:30

Jimjams, that is a great list of achievements. Astounding that adding enzymes to his diet might have been the catalyst for the little guy. I bet his little brother is especially pleased about the kisses!

eidsvold · 04/05/2003 09:43

Brilliant Jimjams... I almost cried reading that list knowing how you must have felt. Well done to ds1

Eulalia · 04/05/2003 09:53

That is such a wonderful improvement jimjams. Hope your ds comes to like the beach this summer.

Eulalia · 04/05/2003 10:23

And well done to ds2 as well jimjams!

Wonderful news Jimjams, you must be really pleased with both your boys!

My DS2 (11 months) started to say DS1's name today which was a lovely moment, he was then in his room this evening calling for him!

jimjams, those things must mean so much to you. I think they are impressive for many three yeaer olds. Happily trying on shoes in a shoe shop is something we are still aspiring to.

I am so glad your ds liked the beach - I know how lovely they are in your area of the country and it will be so good if you can take both your sons out to them this summer.

Mocha · 05/05/2003 12:26

Well done to all little one on this thread. I am really prouid of DD (9 months lat Thursday).
On Saturday she pushed he waler without any encouragement.
She now holds out her asrm and opens and closes her hand in a little wave.
She also says dadada, ta, bababa and mamama.

Jimjams · 05/05/2003 12:26

Thanks for all the messages. I am a bit relieved about the beach I have to admit. We're going camping next to a beach this summer- I was beginning to think it could be a bit of a nightmare!

SoupDragon · 05/05/2003 14:15

Excellent news JimJams - amazing that something a "small" as the enzymes could make such a big difference.

DS2 has successfully learnt the phrase "I love you mummy".

GillW · 26/05/2003 17:48

Ds, who is only 20 months, learned to ride a bike (with stabilisers) this weekend. By this morning he was managing to steer a straight line and pedalled for about 300 metres on his own. He's so proud of himself for doing it - just like the big boys and girls (although about 1/10th the speed!) that he keeps saying "a bike, a bike" every time he sees one now. When he got back from his ride he insisted that I gave him the washing up brush. I was a bit mystified at that, but he went out and "cleaned" his bike, just like he'd seen daddy do! So cute.

Ghosty · 27/05/2003 06:09

GillW ... well done your ds ... he sounds like a cutie ...
And Jimjams ... a lot to be proud of ...

Ghosty · 27/05/2003 06:09

And everyone else ....

futurity · 27/05/2003 12:32

DS (16 1/2 months) took first steps at weekend! 5 by himself and lots of cheers from us! Today he managed 8 so on his way (when he is in the mood!)
