ah, fortyplus, your friend's ds is a perfect example of the "einstein syndrome" I mentioned below.

At 13 months old my ds2 looked at a woman in the playground and said, 'I watching you brown lady. You are too big for the slide' to the amazement of all onlookers.

My 28 month old ds 4, on the other hand, has just started stringing together the odd sentence.

They've both been brought up the same. Different kids learn things at different times.

Chill.

As the posters have said, not crawling can be an indicator for dyslexia, as can late talking.

My son talked late (2+ish?) and I did wonder if he was aspergers as he had other traits. I think that he's just 'himself' and is showing signs of being a very bright but shy boy. He's 7 now.

My friend's little boy hardly talked at all until he was 2.5 then he just started talking and now he never shuts up. They had discussed speech therapy with the paediatrician but he never needed it.

My dd and ds both started talking later, both were well over 2 before stringing words together.

Don't let the silly bint in the MT group bother you.

I don't have any children (yet) but can only tell you what Mum says I did - hope it shows there is hope yet. My birthday is is November and I am told that by my 2nd birthday I was still only sating a handful of odd words. Then at Xmas we went to a relative's house for a party and on being taken to the toilet I said "Aunt got lid on her loo" and from then on just talked and talked...
