DS1, who is 2 years old, is Thomas obsessed.

My mother buys him lots of TTTE stuff, which is great, but it's got to the point where he won't play with/watch/read anything that's to do with Thomas. It's taken over his (and our) life!!!

Not sure anyone can suggest anything, but I juts wanted to say

I FUCKING HATE TRAINS!

Sorry, that [lay read/watch anything that's NOT to do with Thomas.

Also, just to add, he woke us up at 2 30 am screaming "Thomas video" and frequently wakes up mumbling about some train or another.

Sympathy from someone who has watched Finding Nemo more times than I can remember. DS likes Thomas too, but not to exclusion of everything else. I think your ds will grow out of it, perhaps you could put away all except one or two of his TTTE toys then hopefully he will get bored of them and move on to something else.

He won't be two forever, before you know it he'll be heading out with his flask and notebook to spend his afternoons watching real trains.

IntergalacticWalrus · 07/02/2007 17:21

My house looks like the Island of farking Sodor.

I just had a thought, maybe I could box all his TTTE stuff up and he can play with it an hour before nap time, and then I can hide it again while he sleeps

My nephew was like this and I felt so sorry for his mum so I feel for you! We get all the hand me downs for my DS and I've now got an aversion to letting him have the TTTE stuff, so I've gone a bit irrational about it because of what I witnessed before! Does he have a friend who's not into TTTE who you can get him to spend time with playing with some other toys to discover that fun can be had without Thomas! Mind you, there are far worse things he could be fixated on...

trice · 07/02/2007 17:22

We own a full set of TTTE tat. Ds loved it to the exclusion of all else until he was 4 then declared it babyish and boring and hasn't touched it since. I should ebay the lot as it cost a fortune but dh swears that he will like the road and rail stuff again when he is a bit older.

TTTE stories do have the benefit that as bed time stories they are so boring anyone would go to sleep.

brimfull · 07/02/2007 17:25

oohh yes, been there, done that got the sodding badge! hahahahahahahahha!
Have you had to read the truly awful books aswell,I hope so because they're effing diabolical.I refuse to read them now.Ds is 4.5 now and it wore off about a 3.5yrs.
Sorry can't help but laugh, but I do sympathise.

FrayedKnot · 07/02/2007 17:29

Ah yes.

We are currently watching the Dumbo DVD. Are we watching it because we love elephants? No, we're watching it because it has a train in it.

When the train bit finishes, we have to start that bit again.

We are on about the 6th viewing.

And heaven help I dare suggest we read anything other than TTTE at bedtime.

DS does play with other toys but he only ever really talks about trains. Constantly.

I am thinking of entering him for Mastermind..

I feel your pain. My DS is now 5 and says "Thomas is for babies" and has allowed me to put his Thomas videos in the boot fair box! YAY.

The TTTE obsession has been replaced however by a killer whale, whale and dinosaur obsession. So now I read the Encyclopaedia of Dinosaurs at bedtime.

And my pronunciation of all things Jurassic has improved no end.

southeastastra · 07/02/2007 17:35

my son was obsessed then one day almost overnight he forgot thomas for dr who. its quite sad looking at all the neglected trains and blue track that only gets used once in a blue moon now.

lissielou · 07/02/2007 17:36

ds is the same, he wakes up at 1.30 shouting choo choo, choo choo

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhh

IntergalacticWalrus · 07/02/2007 17:38

There's DS1 with Thimas, and DP with sport.

Only DS2 gives me attention, but that's because he's 5 months old and he relies on me for norkage. I'll have to breastfeed hbim til he leaves home I think, or I'll never get a look in.

pmsl, and we have the girl/boy obsessions to look forward to

AllBuggiedOut · 07/02/2007 17:44

I have banned the TTTE books and videos in our house. They are too vile for words.

ivelostmyboobsboohoo · 07/02/2007 17:49

omg i know what you mean- bloody f'in thomas. tho its very sweet. i'm not allowed to sing along to any of the thomas songs... it makes him utterly furious. and yes he spots trains everywhere tho weirdly not bothered by actually going in a train- i guess because he cant see it ?!!!. when we 1st took him on train when he was about 2 he sat there looking all excited poring over a train leaflet with a train on it
he has 3 different ttte track sets and he says he has the whole world of thomas. never mind also the pjs, books, jumpers, socks, vests, pants, duvets, puzzles, bowls, beakers.....
he has been obsessed since he was 1 and a half- he's now 4 and its showing no signs of disappearing.
when asked what he wants to be when he grows up, he wants to be a train, not a driver oh no hes bypassing that. he wants to be the actual train! god help me. bless him.
ps this is his AS obsession i think!!!

lissielou · 07/02/2007 17:52

pmsl, we went to a soft play centre today, he points upat some railing shouting choo choo. then threw a flid when we tried to go inside. make it stop!

pinkchampagne · 07/02/2007 18:14

I'm with you here!! My DS is now almost 4, and has been Thomas mad since a young toddler!
I think we have every chuffin Thomas toy going - we even have a very annoying Thomas bike, that plays the theme tune!!!
I am ever hopeful he is soon going to move onto a new fad, but there is no sign of it happening just yet - he wants a blimmin Thomas birthday party!!

mrsvern · 07/02/2007 18:17

oh yes I have another Thomas geek here.
DS amazed me the other day when he named all the bits of a train - engine, boiler, buffer, dome etc etc

I HATE TRAINS TOO

2nervesleft · 07/02/2007 18:25

I'm trying to find some Peppa Pig stuff for my ds nearly 2 because he is obsessed by George, Peppas brother. He started telling people his name was George and now mostly responds only to George. I think I have got off lightly though because nothing on earth is as boring as TTTE and the thought of being subjected to endless DVDs is enough to make me embrace Peppa and her family even if I am called Mummy Pig!

hunkermunker · 07/02/2007 18:27

Hahahahahahahaha!

Skarloey, Edward, Gordon, Thomas, Annie, Clarabel, Harvey, Diesel 10, James, Henry, Duncan, Emily...oh God, stop me, please!

DS1 woke up sobbing one night because TTTE had "too many jobs to do"

hunkermunker · 07/02/2007 18:27

We do get a break though, in the form of Underground Ernie...

WWWCampbellBlack · 07/02/2007 18:28
pinkchampagne · 07/02/2007 18:30

My DS2 is also pretty keen on Underground Ernie too & alternates between his Thomas pyjamas & his Underground Ernie ones!
He wants to go on a train to London, just so he can go on Underground Ernie!!

hunkermunker · 07/02/2007 18:32

We gave DS1 Underground Ernie PJs on Christmas Eve - he was SO excited. He climbed onto his bed and lay the top on his lap so that he could look at "Baker-yoo", "Hammersniffy" and "Juba-yee"
