DS1, who is 2 years old, is Thomas obsessed.

My mother buys him lots of TTTE stuff, which is great, but it's got to the point where he won't play with/watch/read anything that's to do with Thomas. It's taken over his (and our) life!!!

Not sure anyone can suggest anything, but I juts wanted to say

I FUCKING HATE TRAINS!

DS1's 2.10 and has been changing videos for a couple of mnths now - he did once jam an audio cassette in the DVD player though, so he's Not Allowed near the DVD player now! That was funny in hindsight - the DVD player had a mad error message on that wasn't in the manual. Unsurprising really, Panasonic had probably not envisaged audio cassettage as being a fault in their DVD player... DH had to take the top off it [invalidates warranty]

My dad has all sorts of transport-related videos/DVDs - DS1 is very into "dumble-decker buses" atm

Edam, you dad must write a book - what a fund of stories he has!

Haven't had a chance to check out that site yet but look forward to doing so - thank you.

As for the engines for sale...I want one! I want one!

Thanks again!

Hunker - dh taught dd2 to change dvds when she came out of hospital last year to cheer her up . So far the dvd player has survived but we are on our second and even third copies of their favourite dvds.

edam · 12/02/2007 23:21

NT, he's written at least two, but serious ones with colour plates and descriptions that appeal to the sort of people who take this All Very Seriously. A shot of a load of engines going off to be broken up in 1968ish is headed 'a sad cavacade'. Oddly enough, ds's favourite picture, because there are six engines in a row!

steinermum · 13/02/2007 12:23

Obsessiveness seems to be a real boy thing doesn't it? My sons are utterly obsessed with Dr Who trading cards, having been through football shoot-out cards, yu-gi-oh or whatever other damn things there are to fleece us of our cash. Then once they're over one obsession another will start.
Thomas the Tank is only the beginning ......

nearlythree · 14/02/2007 15:53

Edam, do you think you could CAT me with your dad's name as I'd love to look at his books on Amazon. Dd1 likes the Very Serious books as they have the best pictures - she also likes the Deeply Serious websites!

Dd1 got the new Thomas magazine today and there is a new pink engine called Rosie. Sorry to have to tell you that.

edam · 14/02/2007 15:59

NT, do you think you could CAT me? Sorry but just tried to do you and realised my sub has run out and would have to go through all the palaver of actually going and getting my purse and filling in all the fields to hook up again... which I will do, MN HQ, but not right now!

edam · 14/02/2007 15:59

at sorry about new engine, btw!

nearlythree · 15/02/2007 08:47

Will CAT you later!

MrsJohnCusack · 15/02/2007 09:01

DD is 2.2 and already showing worrying signs of Thomas obsession (and in fact all transport, any car journey is accompanied by her pointing out EVERY possible car beep-beep with 'wow' and 'look').

on the subject of buying real trains - I had a friend at university who owned a steam engine (I think his father had signed it over to him to avoid death duties or something). Might have been called the Blue Peter or something similar. Anyway, he got terribly excited one day when it was due to come through Durham and so we all went to have a look. Unfortunately, it broke down on the 2 track viaduct, blocking the main London - Edinburgh line. They had to pay a LOT of money to sort that one out!

IntergalacticWalrus · 15/02/2007 09:05

lol MJC

I'm going to the wedding next month of a friend who is a bit of a train nerd. So muych so, he works fro Netwrok rail. He visits us v often because we live near a Heritage railway. Him and DS1 get on like a house on fire.

Actually FO, the amount of money we have paid out on TTTE stuff has been worth it, because DS1 gets hours of enjoyment, and I get hours of peace

MrsJohnCusack · 15/02/2007 09:17

yes I think we will get more - DH very keen. If I play my cards right, might get a lot of peace and quiet in the future!

DD also massively into planes - hours and hours of 'fly' and putting passengers (farm animals mainly) into her plane and out again.

This can only mean that forthcoming DS is going to be into dolls and ballet can't it?

edam · 16/02/2007 08:38

NT, haven't got your CAT yet, but the publisher of many railway books for adults with lots of pictures is Ian Allen (inc. my dad's).

Blackduck · 16/02/2007 08:44

Actually its true - much as I moan about it all DS will happily re-enact whole episodes on his wooden track leaving us in peace for hours (excpet when he wants a new track built!). Our local toyshop sells the track in single pieces (50p for a small piece, £1 for a big piece and so on) which is great as I can bribe him cheaply!

nearlythree · 16/02/2007 09:38

Sorry Edam - dh and bil took over the pc to play stinking internet poker Need to give ds his porridge but will try later.
