DS1, who is 2 years old, is Thomas obsessed.

My mother buys him lots of TTTE stuff, which is great, but it's got to the point where he won't play with/watch/read anything that's to do with Thomas. It's taken over his (and our) life!!!

Not sure anyone can suggest anything, but I juts wanted to say

I FUCKING HATE TRAINS!

It's the music. The blardy music.

It rings in my ears. All the toys mindlessly churn out the music.

Bring on Ivor and Ernie.

IntergalacticWalrus · 08/02/2007 13:43

DS1 has a model Wellsworth station that plays that fecking theme tune. It does my head in.

Flossam, you kow the score with my DS1. He's obsessed!

And DS1 sings "Thomas and his friends" repatededly (and out of tune)

Shall we set up a Mothers of TTTE obsessed support group? Mine loves them too - the stories are pap IMO and the new video with the trucks/diggers etc is just an attempt to cash in on Bob the Builder.....BUT have to say ds will spend hours playing with his trains (so at least when we go out to eat he amuses himself...) and he knows his numbers, colours etc. Just can't get into his head that Henry is a boy and not a girl

foxtrot · 08/02/2007 13:47

Yikes, no wonder you are going bonkers! Our stuff is mercifully silent (apart from the DVDs)

Flossam · 08/02/2007 13:49

Ah, well you see my DS is obsessed with chocolate. And Cake. And biscuit. And Crisps. And Chips. Between all the different varieties I'm confident he gets a well balanced diet.

IntergalacticWalrus · 08/02/2007 13:50

DP thinks Henry is gay.

A while ago, DS put all his metal Take Along Thomas trains down the back of one of the kitchen cupboards (for a laugh, probably) I was tempted to leave them there, but as it was about £80 worth of toys, DP decided to kick the back of the cupboard in. It was a very dramatic resue I can tell you.

IGW we left a bag in the back of a taxi one night - we realised there was probably about £100 worth of bl**dy trains in it.....I'm still not sure if our desire to get the bag back stemmed from the amount of money we would have to shell out to replace them, or the fact we would have to deal with one very upset little boy.....luckily the bag was handed in...(phew...) Interesting thought about Henry...

hunkermunker · 08/02/2007 13:55

Thomas, he's the cheeky one

James is vain, but lots of fun...

[argh]

I actually like the Take Along Thomas toys though - nicely made trains and not too massive.

We record Thomas each morning on Milkshake and have it on the DVD player - you can fix the image on the menu look-up so DH puts the title screen on there (so I can get the right one when DS1 asks for a specific episode ).

Cue DS1 saying "Mummy, I want Dumcam Dwops A Cwanger, peez!"

dejags · 08/02/2007 13:56

We must be the only people in the world who travelled with a Thomas carry case, 12 trains, tracks and a quarry. DH bought these for DS2 in Hong Kong. We then had to travel for another two months (through four countries) toting this lot around.

DS2 left Thomas on the plane at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. We only realised this after we had got off the plane and half the way to baggage collection - I had to leg it back to the plane and beg them to let me on. Thank god it was there.

Blackduck · 08/02/2007 13:59

DJ big respect (or are you mad! at least we only lug the trains around )

marthamoo · 08/02/2007 14:01

You don't want to know about this shop then?

edam · 08/02/2007 14:03

Right, nearlythree, will get onto my dad and check when Nigel Gresley is out. Would guess starting in the spring, but will get it from the horse's mouth!

Where do you live, btw? Lots of little steam railways all around the country that your dds would love. Fab miniature one in Chertsey, Surrey.

dejags · 08/02/2007 14:07

Thanks for that link Martha. I'll send it to DH.

Then you can pay for the counselling to release DH/DS2 from their OC tendencies in 20 years time

foxtrot · 08/02/2007 14:12

That one in Chertsey (near the hospital?) is fab. One of DSs friends had his birthday party there.

ivelostmyboobsboohoo · 08/02/2007 14:24

when ds2 was about 2 he lost thomas.

for months i searched the house, with him helpfully suggesting 'in da basket? etc'.

then one day, he was bent down by the tv and said 'ooh thomas in there' and when i looked sure enough, there was thomas's rear end just inside the hole of the speaker.

needless to say we couldnt get it out so dh took speaker apart- to find 6 trains, a bouncy ball and a crocodile (!!!!) all squashed into the cavity of the stereo speaker. the speaker no longer works.

marthamoo · 08/02/2007 14:27

I'm so glad our Thomas days are behind us.

Those bloody books.

Ringo Starr.

Fimbo · 08/02/2007 14:33

My ds is Thomas/train mad too.

He tells everyone his name is James (it's not!) because its his favourite engine. We have even had to have picnics in railway station waiting rooms.

IntergalacticWalrus · 08/02/2007 14:41

DS says Percy in a scouse accent, thanks to Ringo Starr/Michael Angelis.

Everyday's a special day on Sodor
Changing as the seasons come and go
Gentle Springs give way to summer sunshine
Autumn Breeze gives way to winter snow

All the engines work the same
Freezing snow or driving rain
They just take it in their stride
Boilers nearly burst with pride

Everyday's a special day on Sodor
Changing as the seasons come and go
Gentle Springs give way to summer sunshine
Autumn Breeze gives way to winter snow

Repeat whole thing

IntergalacticWalrus · 08/02/2007 14:48

I don;t know that song, thank god. We've got away with it (so far)

speedymama · 08/02/2007 14:50

DH and I actually like that one. We find it strangely soothing

dejags · 08/02/2007 14:50

"there's noone quite like emily"

this one gets to me as I just cannot stop singing it.

speedymama · 08/02/2007 14:54

These guys love us!
