2 year old cant identify alphabet, colours or numbers

Hi, my two year old can easily sing the alphabet, can count to ten and can point out a right colour when I ask her to. But shr seems to be having problems with actually identifying and what each letter or number actually looks like. And when I ask her what colour something is, she can't say. We do read books and I always point out letters/numbers to her and always try to incorporate colours when I talk to her. Should I be worried about this? Any tips on how to teach 2 year olds please? Thank you xxx

She's 2, so stop panicking. Don't be trying to teach her anything formal.

My 2 year old knows a few colours but that's it.

If she still doesn't know the colours in another year, then revisit it. Until then carry on playing and singing and stop pressurising it.

Perfectly normal. Absolutely does not need to know the alphabet yet, simply reading lots is fine. As for knowing the colours but not being able to say them, she might not have the language yet, it will come.

She is doing great. Don't worry, just let her have fun.

She's two! Perfectly normal for them to have 'learnt' the abc by remembering the song. Also normal for most to not be able to recognise numbers and letters yet.
My four yr old still doesn't always reliably recognise letters if capital etc.

I would really not worry!

She's 2! She sounds like she's doing fine. My dd is 2.8 - she can identify her colours, she can identify a grand total of 2 letters (from a puzzle she does) and she can recognise the numbers 2, 3,5 and 9. I think she's pretty clever for this!!

Probably ok, although if she says 'zee' instead of 'zed' at the end of the Alphabet song I'd stage an intervention. Can't be too careful

If I try to get DD to identify an R and point out that it's the first sound in her name she gives me an absolutely classic "whatevs!" look.....

She knows all the numbers to twenty though - eleven, fourteen, fifteen, fourteen, fourteen, sixteen, TWENTY!!

Errrr....she is two.

DS10 couldn't speak at 10 - let alone recite alphabet and colours, and is absolutely fine now.

Didnt expect so much sarcasm and negativity. Jeez.

My 4 year old is just learning this. My 3 year old struggles with counting to 10. They are only babies learning so much about the world, let them be and just have fun.

We are nice. We are also very surprised that this would be a concern at 2yo.

She's 2. Worry more when she's closer to school age.

Im a first time mum so I dont really know what 2 year olds are supposed to know. I posted on here hoping that other parents with 2 year olds and have experience would tell me whether I should be worried or not. Thanks all.

Oh Andreadxo, this is good natured ribbing because people think it's not a thing to be concerned with. This is good news isn't it? Your child is doing just fine

I remember being told at DS's 18-month check that they aren't expected to be able to identify colours until 3. DS was only just beginning to identify letters and numbers by sight when he started school at 4.5, but he was reading a year ahead of expectations by the end of Reception. Don't worry - let her be little!
