Do you allow your children to jump on the sofa?

I don't and don't really like it when other children jump on mine. If they want to get rid of some energy whats wrong with the garden?

Tutter · 15/11/2006 10:38

he's too young to jump, but he does clamber energetically i suppose

they are the sofas in the playroom though - not allowed anywhere else - or in other people's houses

Marne · 15/11/2006 10:39

No, dd1 would like to jump on the sofa, has tried and now knows not to.

God yes

Dd stands on the end and launches herself onto it!

It's only a sofa fgs.

Db and I used to take long run-ups, bounce off a footstool and somersault onto our sofa when we were little, it was such fun!

well i cna see if a dh did

not kids thou

Kittypickle · 15/11/2006 10:49

Yes, DS bounces off it onto a giant beanbag, it's his favourite game of the moment.

JoolsToo · 15/11/2006 10:50

Absolutely not - my kids weren't allowed and neither are the dgs's.

How can you expect your children to be respectful in other peoples homes if they're not in their own?

wordgirl · 15/11/2006 10:50

So the question should really be "Do you allow your DH to sit on the arm of the sofa?"

CountessDracula · 15/11/2006 10:51

wtf is disrespectful about bouncing on a sofa?

Have never heard of dissing a sofa

BudaBeast · 15/11/2006 10:51

DS (5) does but he's not actually allowed and I tell him off if I see him.

My pet hate is when he climbs over the back of the sofa to get on or off.

IdrisTheDragon · 15/11/2006 10:52

DS climbs onto the sofa. He particularly likes to lie on the top of it (it is against a wall).

He jumps off the sofa. Don't think he jumps on it.

I don't think he bounces on other people's sofas.

I am now getting worried I have little idea of DS's sofa habits .

CountessDracula · 15/11/2006 10:52

have never seen her bounce on anyone else's sofa anyway

xena · 15/11/2006 10:52

DH doesn't jump though.
DS1 has ahd friends round who would jump on the sofa (as would he if he was allowed) and I think that 8 year olds and even 4yo DD1 would ruin them quickly. I don't shout if DD2 jumps but tell her to sit down or get off.

No my children do not jump on it. I do not want them wrecking it. It annoys me when I have friends around and their children do it. I agree completely with jools.

Kittypickle · 15/11/2006 10:53

Mine know that these rules are the rules that apply here and they are not to jump on sofas at their friends houses. Hasn't been a problem so far.

busybusymum · 15/11/2006 10:56

FWIW I dont "allow" my DC to jump on the sofa

but they still all do it

StrawberryMoon · 15/11/2006 10:56

no i dont! and sil made sucha big issue out of telling her dd last week that aunty xxx doesnt like you to jump on her sofa, you can jump on our at home, maybe aunty xxx will let you when its old and knackerd!!!!!!!!!!!!cheeky cow, ive just spent £600 on it!! a two piece module corner leather sofa for playroom and apart from that I didnt actually tell her dd to get down!!!!she must be fecking telepathic and made me out to be arse!

zippitippitoes · 15/11/2006 10:57

no, didn't want them thinking it was ok and wrecking ours if we got a new one or anyone elses

and wouldn't let other people's children either

used to say "you may be allowed to do that at home but you aren't allowed to do it here"

hoxtonchick · 15/11/2006 10:59

yes. and our bed.

HuwEdwards · 15/11/2006 11:02

same as busybusymum.

I do have this thing where I lie on the floor, feet towards the sofa, bring my feet up, DDs (1 at a time) balance themselves on my feet and I shoot them up in the air onto the sofa.

They love that.

Our sofas are really old - and we don't intend replacing them till our DDs are laydees

busybusymum · 15/11/2006 11:06

my DS has a friend over who is from a very controlling family and he asks if he is allowed to "sit" on the sofa or do they have to sit on the floor like at home. on hearing this we took all the cushions off and made a big bouncy island on the floor and jumped away! His mother wont let him come anymore!!!

CountessDracula · 15/11/2006 11:08

I feel sad for children who can't bounce on the sofa

Bozza · 15/11/2006 11:10

Well unfortunately I can't afford to let them bounce on the sofa, wreck it and then have to replace it. They are fine about it.
