I don't and don't really like it when other children jump on mine. If they want to get rid of some energy whats wrong with the garden?

Actually, just to change the subject for a minute (which I'm prone to as you may know). Went to France on hols this summer - picked up a Francais/Anglais conversation card in the supermarche (sorry can't be bothered to do the accents). Thought the kids would like seeing it from French child's perspective - lots of English idioms etc. But... the section re: insults... Had 'thick as a plank' - fair enough - but then went on to list wanker, tosser, fuckwit!!!!!!!!!!

Rhubarb · 15/11/2006 23:38

Oh sorry fortyplus - I wondered where my teaching cards had gone!

fortyplus · 15/11/2006 23:42

One of my friends is a French teacher - she borrowed it to amuse her yr 12s - I'll let you have it back when she's finished with it

Rhubarb · 15/11/2006 23:42

'Night, all xxx

Judy1234 · 15/11/2006 23:52

Actually you're right. We don't use the sofa word and my parents never did.

We've never really gone in for expensive furniture. Was it Alan Clark who said Heseltine was the kind of person who'd bought his own furniture..... nice line. I miss him so much.

One of my daughters put up a pop band here one night who were trying to save hotel bills. They were such nice boys.... clean hair (quite rare amongst teenage boys) and they played the grand piano..... they did have absinthe... lethal drink... eek.

fortyplus · 15/11/2006 23:59

But xenia - ! According to Debrett's you should call it a sofa! 'Settee' is for common people! Or worse still...(whispers)...'couch'. You don't hold your knife like a pen, do you?

jampots · 16/11/2006 00:00

to answer original question - no mine do not nor have they ever done nor do i allow any other child do it

Gameboy · 16/11/2006 09:40

Two expensive sofas in living room - No.

Cheapie in playroom - no bouncing, but can build dens & mess about with cushions etc.

Absolutely no boucing on beds - hate it - and in fact it's a 'house rule' I reel off to all the DS's friends upon arrival. DS1 has a high sleeper bed, and once fell over the side whilst standing up on it . Fortunately OK.

NomDePlume · 16/11/2006 09:44

No, my kids aren't allowed to jump on the sofas.

If they want to leap around they have a huge trampoline in the back garden

iota · 16/11/2006 09:47

same as you NDP ( althougfh trampoline has been put away for the winter)

hatwoman · 16/11/2006 10:01

one evening we had friends round. 5 kids playing in the sitting room while the grown ups drank wine in the kitchen. the level of merriment in the sitting room grew so high we went to investigate. the older kids (my dds 6 and 4 plus friends dss 5 and 3) were playing "plummet to the ground" an old favourite in our house which involves making a large pile of cushions and jumping onto it from the arm of the sofa. all very well, except that they were playing it with friends dd (age 1!) who was being encouraged to crawl up onto the arm and plummet head first on to the cushions to whoops of delight to all involved (including said dd).

H1robot · 16/11/2006 10:01

Always said i wouldnt let them but gave in. Do prefer the bed though. Would never let them jump on someone elses sofa though, not even grandparents and they know this.

micra · 16/11/2006 13:03

Don't mind climbing, but jumping or standing precariously on top worries me so that's not allowed - but they do it the minute they think you're not paying enough attention and try it on with DP , inlaws, etc.

moosh · 16/11/2006 13:33

I tell mine not to as the side of our old one broke with the constab=nt standing and jumping off and diving head first on to it.
Needless to say they ignore me, well not so much ignore, I think they genuinely forget. When I tell them off they stop but 5 mins later they're doing it again.

bekplus3 · 16/11/2006 21:41

No way!! Can you imagine them doing it in someone elses house, how embarrasing. We have a large bean bag that they play on, sofas are for sitting on.
