sleeping issues 4 month old

Hi

was hoping for some advise, I have seen other threads similar but they are for older babies.

I have a 4 month old (18 weeks) he goes down at 7.30 after being fed (is BF) and then sleeps roughly til 12. He then wakes and I feed him. (he sometimes wakes again at 8 for more milk if he fell asleep too soon!)

The problem is after 12 he is waking every 2 hrs then is ready to get up at 7am.

I asked the HV and she said if he feeds at midnight he should be able to go thru til 6am. I have tried sush/patting on her advice but it took an hr to get him back to sleep...

As a newborn he fed every 3 hrs in the night and has done a few days of sleeping til 1 then only up at 4 then 7.

My question is should I just be feeding him as I am? Is he just feeding to sleep and do I just need to perservere with the sush/pat...?

Can't see your OP - there's a glitch on MN at the moment. But posting this will make your OP appear.

Yes, your thread is fine now!

There's a thread in Site Stuff about this www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/2202863-something-MOST-PECULIAR-is-happening-to-some-newly-started-threads after few of us made complete arses of ourselves when it first started happening yesterday evening.

Seem to recall there's a huge growth spurt & developmental leap at 4 months (try googling wonder weeks) so it may be this that is causing your ds to wake up so much. I would just do what it takes to get you through the next couple of weeks & things should soon settle back down again. Hth

Sounds very typical of the four month sleep regression. I've just been through this with ds, who is five months today. In his case it lasted about two weeks, then suddenly fixed itself (just as we were getting to the end of the tether!) he's slept through completely from 7.30pm - 6.30am for the last week. All our same-age baby friends have just done exactly the same too. It came on suddenly, we scratched our heads and thought about what we were doing 'wrong' or if we should change anything, then it just fixed itself.
As a previous poster suggested, download the wonder weeks app, it's brilliant and helps save your sanity!
