yes - various - empty dishwasher, set & clear table, tidy bedroom (needs encouragement )
50p per year - £4.50. Was 20p per year but dh unilaterally increased it. BUT she has to spend lots of it on things I would otherwise have bought - school fairs/discos/'must have' boots etc

Just wondering how typical dd is, only out of interest, no particular concern.

i have 8 yr old boy,he is meant to tidy his room but moans about it.gets pocket money if he does something very good.i live in a small town(well,population 60,000 but im from a city so it seems small).he goes to the local shop and library which are round the corner on his own.and he goes to bed at 8 most nights,9 if he and his 7yr old sister have been good at wknd/school hols

I teach music to several 8-10 year old and they vary in whether they come in a car with a parent, at one extreme a girl comes on her scooter (about 1km - no main roads to cross), several boys mum's stay in the same room and one takes notes.

Some of them do not go to bed early enough

pocket money would be eg.50p for tidying living room,a pound for something like dusting or whatever

Yes he does chores but not on a terribly regular basis. Cleans his room, washes dishes (badly ), tidies up, cleans toilet.
He is supposed to go to bed by 8:30pm on a schoolnight but more often that not it turns out to be 9:00, which I really think is too late. During the holidays it was probably nearer 10 or 11.
Officially he gets £1 pocket money a week but usually he forgets to ask for it and I forget to give him it. He's not really that bothered about money...yet!
He goes to & from school on his own and to football training. Also goes out playing on his own and to the shop.
We live in what is called a village but probably is more like a rural suburb or a middle-sized town.

She has to make her bed, keep her room tidy, put her clothes away, do her homework without prompting.
Pocket money - £1 per week if we can afford it. She quite often doesn't get but never complains, bless 'er.
Goes to bed at 8.30pm, to settle down at nine.
Goes to the park by herself (100 yards away on the same side of the road). However when we move house she will have a lot more freedom as the place we are going to is much quieter.
Live in a remote village (about 200 people) - moving to another village but more remote (!)

Do they do chores? If so what? - He sets the table before dinner every night and puts the mats away afterwards, makes his bed and tidies his room (both v badly but hey ho!!)daily, empties the waste paper baskets in each room on bin day once a week and occasionally feeds the cats.

Do they get pocket money? How much? - Yes, £3 per week.

What time do they go to bed? On school nights 8.30pm, allowed to read til 9pm, weekends and hols 9pm and allowed a video in bed (yes, he has a TV in his bedroom )

Do they go anywhere alone? - He walks to school on his own when it's not raining and usually meets up with friends on the way. He doesn't go anywhere else on his own though.

Where do you live (city/town/village)? - Town (kind of)

They both do chores, this week ds has kitchen in the morning, clears counters, wipes them, wipes table, puts away foods etc, and sweeps the floor.
Dd has hall, bathrooms (sinks and baths only), and stairs. This sounds like a lot, but hall and stairs don't need doing every day, nor does the upstairs sink and bath.

They are allowed to walk 'into town', we live a mile from the very small town, and they like to go to the shop and get sweets, and sometimes they go to the cafe and get hot chocolate and ice-cream. They have to go together, or with their older brother though. I pay for these treats, but they do not get a formal allowance.

At the moment they are both still up, but usually in bed by about now in the summer holidays. During term time, both chores and bed time are scaled back considerably ie, they only have either sitting room, hall or bathroom, between the three of them.

I really think my friends think I'm cruel making them do these chores, but really they are life skills, and what am I teaching them, if I run around after them, as they lounge about during the holidays?

Oh, the three of them take turns emptying the dishwasher also.

Do they do chores? If so what? Yes Does what is asked under sufferance. Puts his clothes in the laundry, clears his stuff away after a meal - but still needs to be prompted. Chores - things like empty/load dishwasher, sweep dining room floor, empty the bins to the dustbin, fetch the washing in (he quite likes that one!), cleans the bathroom sink.
Do they get pocket money? How much? yes £1 per wk
What time do they go to bed? 7.30 but lights off at 9 pm, 10pm hols and weekends.
Do they go anywhere alone? Yes to the letter box, or playing in the street, walks home from school occasionally (0.6 mile), will walk to/from church on own for clubs, etc. - one major road to cross (but with pelican crossing); when we are away on holiday will happily go off exploring with his brother (7) in woodland, fields or whatever.

Has to keep her room tidy, put her clothes away after they've been ironed, help with general tidy ups around the house.
No pocket money but given treat money for holidays and day trips and doesn't want for much -doesn't ask for pocket money and takes a long time to spend any money she's given - happy to buy things for others with it though eg: on Brownie holiday most of her treat money was spent on pressies for her sister.
Not allowed out on her own as we live in the city next to a busy road - well that's my excuse anyway; I probably wouldn't let her even if we lived in a village tbh but maybe that's me being over-sensitive, so not knocking anybody who does let theirs out.
Goes to bed at 8.30 on a school night and can read until 9; much less regualr in the hols depending on what we've been doing.

Do they go anywhere alone? No not really (does public toilets count?), not at home but when we were camping he was allowed around the camp site on his own

Bed by 8.00, lights out 8.45 in termtime. No set time in holidays (no TV in bedroom)
Goes out on bike with friends locally, goes shopping in nearby town with friends (I take them and I'm in town too - she has a set time to meet me.)

yes they have a chore rota during the holidays this will be revised when they go back to school
they do not recieve pocket money if they want money htey have to get a job. the chores include(child one day one) washing the pots from night before, wiping down kitchen sides and sweeping floor (child two day one) hoover stairs and landing. each day is different

they went to bed at the hour of their age 8 = 8pm etc until aged ten. where it remained at ten. for a school night and still does. but they are allowed to stay up later on weekend to 11.
since turning 13 my daughter has been allowed to go into the town centre with her friends. she is also allowed to the beach with her friends where they have picnics

her twins brother is not allowed to do these thngs becuase he is not mature or responsible enough to. he is mightily pissed off with this but i dont see why my daughter should be punished becuase her brother is a prat.

sometimes i let him go to the youth club in town but this is rare.

Pocket money - NO, he doesn't realy want it. He gets all he wants (and I mean all) from his nan and dad (ex and his mum)they have never siad no to him yet

Bed time - 9 on a school night, 9:30 to 10 holidays

Does he go out alone - NO, live on a main road in a V large town. His school friends live miles away and all shops, friends near home are across main road. Although I have said I will have to start doing this soon.

Do they go anywhere alone? No - live next to v. busy road and all their friends and their clubs are within driving distance.

Forgot that I take them to local town and they get to go around together for up to an hour without me. They have to stay together, and they know they have to stay in the pedestrianised area and not cross any roads. I lurk in various cafes and shops and try not to let them see me trailing them!

Have an 8 year old son.

If i ask him to do anything he wants to know why he has to do it and not his 5 year old sister.

He won't clear anything up if he hasn't made the mess!!!
Even if he has made mess still wants to know why he should have to do it!!!!

It's so much quicker to just do it myself.

If you try to go in his room you need to be wearing body armour and breathing apparatus!!!!
He sets traps in his room!!!!

He goes to bed usually by 9pm, but this holiday he seems to think that he can go at the same time as us.
