Quick poll on 8-10 year olds please

Would really appreciate your answers to these.
Girl or boy and age please.
Do they do chores? If so what?
Do they get pocket money? How much?
What time do they go to bed?
Do they go anywhere alone?
Where do you live (city/town/village)?

I'm sure there was something else but its slipped my mind, so thats all for now.

Just remembered, my 8 year old must be thinking he's 18!!!

Today he asked us if he can have his own set of house keys!!!!!!!

I think NOT!!!!!!

My 3 year old does more chores that some of your 8-10 year olds. But I guess he doesn't have to go to school and so has more time. He's a SAHC !

Ooh, this is interesting.

Girl or boy and age: girl just 10 and girl nearly 8

Do they do chores: make them tidy their room and other rooms they have messed up (with some difficulty), others on ad hoc basis nothing formalised

Do they get pocket money: Meant to be £1 a week but we often forget and they don't remind us.

What time do they go to bed: 8 on a school night (we have to leave the house at 7.30), 9/9.30 weekend

Do they go anywhere alone: to call on friends nearby, grassy areas and big park which are very nearby in the estate

Where do you live (city/town/village: they are small town girls

DS 8.5
Chores: Cleans his football boots after every training/match. Tidies his room. Clears his own plates etc from table.
Pocket money: Gets £8 per month. Gets £1 payrise every birthday.
Is not allowed out on his own, other than for riding his bike/playing with his friend, but they are not allowed out of the cul-de-sac.
Small town.

Miaou! Lochaline - wow! Have you got a 'thing' about ferry terminals?! We are going to Mull the 21-28 July next year, so maybe we'll manage to meet then!

(Though ds2 has expressed a desire to sail from Oban this time - I don't really know why though!)

2 boys, 9 & 11.
They put their plates in the dishwasher after meals, and unpack dishwasher. They also put away their pile of clothes after they're been washed. They clean out and care for their pets (stick insects and hamster respectively.) They'll do more if they're asked, and usually only if A) they sense that I'm in a bad mood, or B) there's something in it for them.
They get £10 a month pocket money, and they have to buy comics etc from this.
They go to bed at 8 on a school night and read till half 8 in theory, although it's usually bed at half eight and read till nine. (Although "EVERYONE else's mum lets them stay up till at least half ten!") They go to school alone - 1/2 mile away, but with lollipop people at every crossing. They also go to Sainsbury's (v close) and to a park about 3/4 of a mile away IF they're with a group of friends and they stick together. When they go here, they have a strict time curfew, and they also take a phone so I can call them. The oldest one will walk or cycle to his gran's, which is about a mile away along a busy road, which he crosses at the green man. (He cycles on the pavement - not on the road). He's always been a really sensible boy, and he phones when he gets there. They also both walk to a variety of friends' houses. We live in a town, and I still feel nervous when they go out, but I think it's important to give them their independence. We've talked about possible possible scenarios - getting lost, getting approached etc - and I'm as confident that I can be that they would know what to do. Hope this helps. Great thread, BTW.

Boy age 9.5 and girl age 7.5

5 mins tidying their rooms each day (this contributes to getting pocket money); emptying bins; helping cook and lay table or clearing table and putting in dishwasher

DS gets £2 per week, DD gets £1

DD lights out by 9pm (in bed and reading by 8.30pm) and DS lights out by 8.30pm (in bed and reading by 8pm)

Will walk (crossing our quiet lane) to friends' house to get eggs; will play on green (very near our house but not in eyesight)

Live in village - not in middle so can't send them to the shop as there are some very busy roads between us and the shop, otherwise I would certainly send DS.

Yes I guess I should answer my own questions!
My dd is just 9.
She keeps her own room tidy(ish), tidies the living room (ie puts toys away) while I put ds to bed, and will do other things when asked, like putting rubbish out or helping in kitchen.
She doesn't get pocket money, but seems to accumulate money (a saver, not much of a spender)
Bed time is 8 with light off 8.30ish school nights. Bit later in holidays.
She calls on a friend in the block we live in and plays in the communal gardens. Would've been allowed to the local shop by now but it closed down. Am working on getting her to the post box!
We live in London, but a villagey-feeling to the area.

Wow interesting thread! Boy age 9. Very helpful and loves to cook, tidy kitchen etc but no formal chores. Started the holidays with a rota but his big brother and sister snaffled all the easy tasks and it fell by the road after we got back from holiday. £8 per month pocket money paid into bank and saved, saved, saved! Went up to £2 per week at age 9. Bed at 9am with reading first if possible. Goes 'around the block' and to local Tesco's / Post Office / to meet Dad off the train - all not far and quiet roads (since this summer). Live in small town which I consider very safe. Often out with brother (13) and sister (11) and will go off in town with brother and meet me later.

*Boy 9yrs

*He has to keep his room (that he shares with 3yr old ds2) tidy,puts his clothes away or in laundry,help me if i need something done, sometimes he will hoover but only when he wants to get in my good books,he sometimes helps make tea.

*he gets given £1.50 per week from my parents, dh's parents put money in pot for his holidays the amount varies according to school reports,being good/bad etc plus he has £25 put in his bank account each month.

*he usually goes to bed between 8.30 and 9 on school nights but at weekends/holidays it varies mainly 10-11pm though.

*He goes to and from school by himself, and after school clubs ie football unless its dark then i collect him, he goes to the park, local shop, friends houses on his own. He normally has to cross at least one road but he knows to be careful plus they are all within 5-10min walk away

*we live on the outskirts of a town.

Tidies bedroom (kind of),lays table, sweeps up mess under table,feeds cat and goldfish.

Do they get pocket money? How much?
1 pound per week ...but isn't interested in money and never asks for it

What time do they go to bed?
8-8.30pm . he reads untill 8.30 on a school night and 9pm in the holidays

Do they go anywhere alone?
No..except if we are camping and he goes off to playground or he goes off on his bike around big parks

Where do you live (city/town/village)?
In the centre of a town on a main road.

Hi,

I have girl aged 8 and a boy aged 10
They both have to tidy up after themselves, keep bedrooms tidy and a few general bits.

They don't get pocket money yet as I feel they are still too young

8 yr old bedtime is 8:30 week night. 9 weekend
10 yr old 9:00 weeknight 9:30 weekend

They both play out in the road

Live in the city.

boy 9 in december

He sets the table, takes the dishes through to kitchen after, makes his own breakfast and is supposed to put his laundry in bin and keep room tidy. But is rubbish at it. He feeds the cat too.

Grandma gives him £1.50 a week. He ocassionally gets rewards for, say, fab school report or passing a swimming certificate.

Bedtime 8pm on schooldays, but is allowed to read/play/watch a vid in his room. Actually he is really asleep before 9.30pm..

To the very local shop for loaf of bread/milk/sweets. Today he went to the Yu-gi-oh shop in town while we were sitting in a nearby cafe. When we are camping or at a festival, he gets more freedom. He would be allowed to play on street, but doesn't want to as there are no kids of a similar gae at the moment.
