DD1 often did until about 3.5. I think DD2 will drop it a bit earlier.

It's a really variable age for napping.

DS dropped his at 3.2, conveniently just before I had dc2.

Dc2 napped some days until she started school at 4.

Yes, and so does my nearly-5 yo on the days she's not at school.

My 4.75yo DD still naps. She started school recently and is struggling with the lack of daytime naps. She's a restless sleeper at night (and still has not started sleeping through the nigh), so I don't think she gets good quality sleep.

My just 3yo dropped her nap at 2.10 but does occasionally fall asleep in the car for 10-15 minutes if we've had a very active day or she has a bad cold etc. I have a friend whose son is still having a 2 hour nap at just 3. Depends on the child I suppose.

How do you think it effects their night sleeping?

my 3.10 year old DS2 still naps most days. I try to restrict him to 20-30 minutes unless we have a late night planned. Bed time if he has a short nap is 8pm. with no nap it is 7pm. With a long nap he will still go to bed but take longer to settle, maybe finally going to sleep about 9pm. He sleeps through (not withstanding nightmares etc). I think he's unusual, he's always slept well and been very good about going to bed. Even if he's not ready he will sit quietly in bed and sing or play. He tends to wake up when the baby does at about 6 30am, but if not disturbed will sleep till 7.30. On fridays he has about 2.5 hours nap, and will be awake till 10.30pm. wakes as normal on saturday.

Didn't affect DD1 in the slightest, right up until she dropped it.

DD2 it does affect if she sleeps too late in the day.

However, I have friends who have dropped naps when night sleep went downhill, particularly ages to get to sleep at night.

DS (3.5) still naps 1-2 times per week for around 1.5hrs. After a few days of no nap his behaviour really deteriorates so we have clung onto it for as long as possible!

We've always woken him up by 4pm & done bedtime at 8pm, its always worked fine, however recently its been around 8.45pm before he's asleep. He's fighting the nap more & more so don't think he'll be having it much longer.

On days when he doesnt nap he does 7-7 overnight.

Yes, DS will be 4 in two weeks and still naps 5/6 days out of 7. When he does not nap his behaviour and continence really go downhill.

He has always slept well and sleeps about 8.45-9pm until 7-7.30am most evenings. If he has no nap he sometimes falls asleep at the table around 6.30pm.

DD turned 3 a fortnight ago - we've banned naps as she just doesn't get enough sleep when she's up at 9.30pm and woken by her sister at 6.30. Some afternoons can be long but it's worth it for her having 12 hours good sleep.

Ds dropped his nap when he was 2, the pay off being he sleeps like a dream at night he asks to go to bed at about 6:45 usually wakes 7-7:30 am

Sometimes though it can't be helped and he'll fall asleep in the car on the way back from say the seaside and then he just won't settle and keeps getti g out of bed sometimes until about 10 which is really annoying.

Sadly not. Dd dropped her nap bang on 24 months, with ny dts only 6 months and dreadful sleepers. If she napped, which she still would, and sleep for 1-2 hours, she was up til 10pm or later, in her room but crying, not settling, just not tired. Now she occasionally has 20 min in the car and is ok. She's 3.3 now. I'd get v twitchy if it was after 2pm and do everything possible to keep them all awake though! One of my dts is the same. They're 21 months. If he sleeps later than 1pm, or has more than 1 hour maximum bedtime is horrendous and we are sitting up there shushing him, trying anything to calm him and not disturb the others as he isn't tired. T'other doesn't sleep well at all, and I doubt will ever sleep long enough to need waking...

My two boys are 5 and just 3, and both of them are in bed by 7.15 every night, the just 3yo sometimes puts himself to bed for a nap in the day, but never for more than an hour. I am dreading the day when they will have a later bedtime, I need my evenings to be child free! I believe they need at least 11-12 hours a night when they are small.

We've always been pretty busy with playgroups together but she's started preschool every morning now (yesterday) so I think where she's being stimulated without me there and getting used to the school side of things, I think she's going to tire herself out. She stopped having a nap a few months after dd2 was born so when she was about 2? Even if she's tired she will happily chatter away, and be asking for the next thing we're going to do. Lol

Most days when dd2 naps, dd1 will play but be wanting to fill every moment of the day with things to do. But then it gets to around 2:30/3pm when she melts down - understandably. And usually around dinner time she is so beside herself she doesn't want dinner.

If we're out in the car, she may drift off but I don't like it when it's late in the afternoon because that will effect her settling. She'll still sleep through, but take ages to settle down.
But then sometimes where she is sore tired she doesn't let herself relax in the evenings.

We still want her to have a nice bedtime, to help with the school routine, but just not sure how to get her to chill out even if she don't nap just chill! I have dd2 (19mo) and dc3 due in 1.5weeks so will be handy!

No dd dropped afternoon nap at around 26 months.

One last things, her usual bed/wake up times are 7:30/8pm until 6:30/45am recently.

Ours is 3 years and 4 months and will nap at weekends but not much if at all Monday-Thursday. Depends how active she has been that day/that week but by the weekend she's usually very tired and sometimes has 2-3 hours nap on a Saturday or Sunday, and an hour or two Friday, as well as an hour lie-in in the mornings Sat-Sun, so she must need the extra sleep. We notice she will usually want to sleep for at least two hours after a two hour swim or after 90 minutes running/cycling in a freezing park! Bedtime is between 7:30 and 8pm and we all have to get up at 6am Mon-Fri. At weekends she often lies-in till 7 or 7:30 (same bedtime) though, on top of a 2-3 hour daytime nap, so clearly needs the extra rest at weekends - we all do!

She does dancing mon evenings 5:30-6:15, swimming Fridays 5:15-6:45. But will still wake at her usual early time. Then not have a nap
