Yes but we've gone cold-turkey on dummies tonight so we'll see what happens to the nap!

Not holding out too much hope :(

littleraysofsunshine · 05/12/2013 22:02

My just 3yo doesn't and hasn't napped everyday for a while. Sometimes she might but then she tends to go to bed super late.

We do pre-school and playgroups 4 times a week so she can get super tired and nap or just not give in.
She's due to start preschool every morning so I think she may need rest? She does however go to sleep and sleep soundly all night (8-8 recently)

Yes, and I love it. But we're cutting it down by 15mins each time we become convinced that its affecting nighttime sleep. We're at 1hour 30mins at the moment.

ilovesmurfs · 05/12/2013 22:10

My dd is three today! And hasnt naped since before the summer, for several months before that it was rather hit or miss.

Jiltedjohnsjulie · 05/12/2013 22:29

DS dropped his at 3.2, just before I had dc2... Made bugger all difference to his nights.

Dd was reliable to about 3.6 and still had the occasional one until she wnt to school at 4.

littleraysofsunshine · 05/12/2013 22:33

How do you feel it effects the night sleep if they do or don't?

SuckItAndSee · 05/12/2013 22:35

yes, dd2 naps, but not when she's at nursery, so 3 days/week
we wake her after 30mins, otherwise she's up until midnight
dd1 had a sneaky afternoon nap on non-nursery days right up until she started reception

Jiltedjohnsjulie · 05/12/2013 22:36

DS didn't sleep with or without his nap and dd slept well with or without her nap but if she missed a nap or it was too short, she would be harder to settle at night.

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 06/12/2013 01:59

DS dropped his at two and a half.
Bed 7-7.15pm. Up 6am - 6.30am.
We chill with Peppa or Thomas on sofa after lunch for an hour in lieu of an actual nap otherwise he would be impossible by 4pm.

ZuleikaD · 06/12/2013 09:15

DD 4.5 still naps every afternoon, though she'll have to drop it when she starts doing full days as school, so some days we don't let her nap. It doesn't affect her night-time sleep at all.

ChazDingle · 06/12/2013 20:26

DS dropped his at 18 months!! Still has the occasional if he's really tired but very rare

matana · 07/12/2013 08:41

Ds just 3 and naps for a good hour and a half when at home but refuses when at the cm. It has no effect on his night time sleep. He's always loved his sleep.

SquidgyMummy · 07/12/2013 08:44

DS hasn't napped since he was 2 1/2 and only because at his creche it was compulsory.
I bring him home at lunchtime from pre-school because i don't want him to nap and then stay awake till 10pm (I kid you not). now he is asleep between 7-8pm and awake about 8am. perfect for us

Squitten · 07/12/2013 11:31

No, he doesn't (turned 3 on weds). He started refusing naps around 2.5 and there was an awkward few months where we had to force him to nap otherwise he was falling asleep at 4pm. He was still waking in the night to get into our bed but a Gro-Clock fixed that so now he goes 6:30-6:30. He's tired by bedtime but can get through the day no problem now.

matilda101 · 07/12/2013 20:44

My dd has just dropped her nap, she's 22 months, went from having 2.5 hours to nothing. It's actually great, we have all day to do things and she's been sleeping 6pm - 8.30am, when she was having a nap she was sleeping 7.30pm-7am.

Yika · 07/12/2013 20:49

My DD 3.2 still naps at preschool for about an hour. It definitely affects her night time sleep; she often can't get to sleep till 10 or 10:30. Without a nap she sleeps around 11-12 hours a night.

kiwiscantfly · 07/12/2013 20:50

DD is 2.11 and naps for 2-3 hours a day. She sleeps from 8 (well she's in bed at 8 but it takes her 30 mins to stop talking to her friends) till 6:45/7ish. We have also just stopped dummies too which might affect her naps, but since she starts afternoon kindy in Jan it's not necessarily a bad thing.

Selfishly I'd prefer that she kept napping, as a SAHM I love my me time.

FrightFlea · 07/12/2013 20:51

DD dropped her naps at 3.7. Oh how i miss them.
She does go to sleep quicker now at night.

HDEE · 07/12/2013 20:54

My twins are 4 next month and sleep for two hours a day.

They both sleep 12 hours a night.

NotAQueef · 07/12/2013 20:59

My ds was 3 last week and up until then napped most days for just under an hour at nursery and at weekends for a couple of hours the majority of time. however since he was 2.5 we let him go without if it suited to maximise our day
He moved into over 3 room this week at nursery and they don't tend to nap - couple with the extra children and activity DS has really been affected by it. Come pick up time he is irrational and in bits Sad and at risk of falling asleep in the car.
That said nap or not he still sleeps approx 12 hours each night.

NotAQueef · 07/12/2013 21:00

Actually he didn't nap today and had to go to bed before 7 as he was falling asleep but refusing to admit it iyswim

SteamWisher · 07/12/2013 21:02

My just turned 4 year old still naps but only about 2-3 times a week. However he's never ever since birth slept for 12 hours overnight so uses naps to get the sleep he needs.

He becomes awful if he doesn't have a nap for 3-4 days in a row.

SteamWisher · 07/12/2013 21:04

I will add that at age 2 and again 3, he's had phases where I thought he was dropping the nap but he always went back to them. Looking back it was just a development phase.

theyoniwayisnorthwards · 07/12/2013 21:04

If he naps for even 10 minutes he will NOT go to sleep at night. I am fanatic about keeping him awake for car journeys!

SteamWisher · 07/12/2013 21:10

The only impact on night sleep is that he goes to sleep about an hour later if he naps.
