Mumsnet behaviour-is it a police state?

Hello, I've been lurking on Mumsnet for some time now but finally decided to post having been horrified at the reception that some people have received.

I always assumed that, within reason, mumsnet would be a place for parents/carers to come and, mostly anonymously, discuss their concerns. Over the last few weeks I have seen some ghastly behaviour from mns against innocent posts.
Are some of you out there assuming the mantle of "mumsnet police" and if so should you not announce that fact?

Why are people so aggressive? I've researched some of the more aggressive posters and it seems that there is a pattern to their behaviour.
If you disagree with a post or challenge its viewpoint perhaps you should just make it known and move on-berating people for their view or concern seems wrong to me.

There are lovely people on mumsnet and its such a shame that there are others who seem to get too busy and bully people into submission when they don't agree with them Sad

Caligula · 04/05/2006 18:24

Well I sincerely hope I'm considered a smart-assed bitch. It's infinitely preferable to being a dumb-assed one, imvho.

And yes, I do think I'm clever, too.

Bet I'm one of the names. (will be very disappointed if not)

cataloguequeen · 04/05/2006 18:34

No sorry Cal you are a lovely fluffy bunny...ha!Grin

FrannyandZooey · 04/05/2006 18:38

HC, it was "love and knuckles"

:)

I reckon a lot of posters on here seem different at first when you have not got used to their "unique characters"

It's what makes it so fascinating to be on here, though

edam · 04/05/2006 18:39

Odd way to start your first post IMO: 'Hello everyone, I'm new here, and just wanted to say some of you are really nasty.' Huh? How to win friends and influence people...

Harpsichordcarrier · 04/05/2006 18:55

love and knuckles of course

see. now that's clever
do you remember who said it Franny? was it Eulalia?

Tortington · 04/05/2006 18:55

i agree with talk talk - there are a certain faction within MN ( you know who you are you fuckers) who bully. not only are they the mn police - they are the breastfeeding police, the what to wear police, the moral police, the perfect parent police, they are even the pasta out of a god damned jar police, then there is one poster who is a proper god botherer and will never concede that her beliefs are anything but the only beliefs in the universe to behold.
then theres the grammar police - fuck me if i dont put a semi colon up mi arse

theres the smoking police
theres the food police < eats icecream with copius amounts of chocolate sauce>
t

now that wouldnt bother me am not being funny but my views are the most important and fuck me if they are not heard. i make them heard with my crudeness now if your too luara shley in your flowery dress and too shy and wonder why no one posts on your thread - well its becuase your fcking booooooooooooooooooooring. bore snooze bore snooze bore snooze.

FrannyandZooey · 04/05/2006 18:56

so very random

zippitippitoes · 04/05/2006 19:05

I've never actually seen anyone holding someone's up their back an hissing submit submit into their face..the only person who's done that to me is big brother

niceglasses · 04/05/2006 19:24

but it just sorta reflects real life doesn't it?
There are always cliques of sorts (think of the toddler groups, the schl yard, the work place)

Just avoid em and ger on with yer own stuff...I don't really think its anything too sinister.
