My ds is 5 years and 8 months and only 110cms and I am pretty sure he is very short for his age. Can I ask other people with children around the same age how tall their child is (especially boys) just out of interest.

Just checked in my red book and that makes him between the 9th and 25th percentile for height. So in the shortest 10 or 20% but within the normal range. My DS is 3.4 and on the 9th centile at around 90cm and am expecting him to be shortest in reception when he starts in September 2013 at 4.0 Grin

Ds 3 is 5.5 and I have no idea how tall he isBlush but l think he is just above average for his age ( he fits into 6 year trousers lengthwise easily, but is very very thin so they fall down). All my other 5 are short arses though!

monkeyfacegrace · 31/12/2012 21:36

My dd, just 6 last month, is 124cm. She istallest in her class.

spookysal · 31/12/2012 21:36

Last time I measured dd1, she had just turned 5 and was 112cm. She's about the same as every one else in her reception class.

Whatevertheweather · 31/12/2012 21:38

My dd is 6 is March and 119cms. She is slightly above average in her class

HayleBoppingAroundTheXmasTree · 31/12/2012 21:40

My dd is 3.11 and 112cms.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 31/12/2012 21:42

DD was 96cm. DS was 106cm. DD is now 155cm at 22 years old, DS is 188cm at 20yrs

amck5700 · 31/12/2012 21:45

As age 6 (exactly! only ever measure them on their birthday) mine were 124 and 123cms both boys both very tall.

According to the red book, average for a 5.5 - 6 year old boy would be 112 - 116cm

amck5700 · 31/12/2012 21:48

my red book puts him exactly on the 25th centile - which if he follows it would give him an adult height of 172.5 - about 5' 8"

MogTheForgetfulCat · 31/12/2012 23:05

DS1 was 115cm when he turned 6 Smile.

ChristmasJubilee · 01/01/2013 10:54

At 5.10yrs ds3 was 113cm tall. At 6.6yrs he is 118.5cm - quite a stretch!

ChristmasJubilee · 01/01/2013 10:57

He's still the same weight though Grin

SocietyClowns · 01/01/2013 12:21

Just caught dd1 to measure her. She's 5 1/2 (almost exactly) and 117 cm.

CaseyShraeger · 01/01/2013 12:33

DS was 110cm at 5 years 5 months. He seems to grow in fits and starts - currently (at nearly 8) he's pretty much average height for his classmates.

scrummummy · 01/01/2013 12:45

My DD1 at 6 was 120.I measured her this morning and she's 130 and will be 7 at the end of the month. She is v tall, tallest in her class, but we are both tall.
DD2 is 108 and she is 4.1.

wewereherefirst · 01/01/2013 12:51

DS2 is 4'2 (no idea of the cm conversion)

wewereherefirst · 01/01/2013 12:52

Oh and its DS1 and he's 6 Blush

Belladonna666 · 01/01/2013 16:09

Ok, so I don't have to be too paranoid about his height then as he won't be really really tiny (and his dad is 5'8" and I am only 5'1" so I guess that is about right). He is the shortest in his class at the moment and some of the other kids have started to make fun of his height.

Don't worry. Some of the kids in DS's class are only the same height as DS's sister which is 106cm. Those are the shortest ones and this is a Y1 class. DS on the other hand is the tallest at 125cm ish Grin.

theotherboleyngirl · 01/01/2013 22:37

I don't think, particularly in boys, that height at this age is necessarily an indicator of adult height. DS who is 6.5 is 130cm - VERY tall! If he continues on the line accoring to his red book he comes out as something like 6' 8". However, DH was tiny all through school until he was 14 - when he shot up and overtook most of his class to 6' 3". I was always tall and remained tallest in the class. But I really remember a lot of the shorter children at primary hitting puberty and having far more of a growth spurt than others. In fact DH and an ex boyfriend of mine both have stretch marks across their lower backs from growing so fast during puberty. So really I wouldn't worry.

Tgger · 01/01/2013 22:41

Yeah, I have to say, Ds's best friend is one of the short ones, however, this same friend's brother is in Y3 and very tall indeed. They all have spurts at different times. DD was also below average height until she spurted 6 months ago to be one of the tall(er) ones - she's just 4.

ChristmasJubilee · 02/01/2013 22:10

Just found the red books. At 5.2 years ds1 was 112cm and ds2 was 108 cm. ds2 was quite dinky but at 15 is quite tall and sturdy.

arista · 03/01/2013 20:58

My daughter is 5 and 4 months and is 125 her dad is tall as well and she is taller that some 6 year old in her class.
