DD2 is very nearly 2. For the last few weeks she has wailed for several hours a day. The rest of the time she is absolutely fine, plays nicely etc. But when she wails she really screams, on and on, never ending.
She has been poorly recently but she was screaming like this long before she was ill. She wants me to just hold her all the time, that is often the only way to stop her screaming. But then at other times she continues with the screaming while sitting on my knee or being held.
I have no let up from her. This afternoon it was non-stop from when I picked her up from the childminder's until about 30 minutes ago. Wailing. Shrieking. Moaning.
I am reaching the end of my tether. I can do nothing lately. I have been really ill this last week so as you can imagine, having a toddler who is so demanding has worn me down even more. I don't know what to do with her. So often nothing I do will placate her. It is not just me as I have a friend visiting at the moment and she is bewildered by it too.
Please help me!

What juice?

I am wondering because if she always kicks off at the same time i dont think its normal toddler behaviour (Yorkiegirl is thinking now - er yes thats what ive been trying to tell you.....Grin)

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/03/2006 22:24

Worse with other children or no different?

Yorkiegirl · 21/03/2006 22:28

no different with other children
someimtes pure juice with water half and half
occasionally ribena (but not often)

Any allergies in the family? Does she have any allergies?

Yorkiegirl · 21/03/2006 22:33

she doesn't have any allergies that we know about. I am allergic to loadsa things!

starlover · 21/03/2006 22:33

what happens if you just totally ignore her?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/03/2006 22:34

Miaou is on the same wavelength i think.... Smile

How is your HV Yorkiegirl? Most HVs have clinic who have a nursery nurse attached to the practice. It might be worth asking the HV to make contact with the nursery nurse to make some observations?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/03/2006 22:36

It could be a number of things - allergies, overtiredness, or general terrible twos. If you honestly dont think its normal toddler behaviour i would seek advice from your GP or HV.

Piffle · 21/03/2006 22:37

molars?

Miaou · 21/03/2006 22:37

VVV I am CATing you!

Yorkie - I don't know much about allergies but AFAIK they can cause behavioural issues - have you tried cutting out/avoiding the things you are allergic to, to see if that makes a difference?

Yorkiegirl · 21/03/2006 22:41

we don't have any of the things I am allergic to in the house so that's not an issue.
As far as HV is concerned, I don't actually know who mine is. I rang the HV base today and nobody knew who was attached to my docs surgery! I asked for someone to ring me back after baby clinic but no-one did.

In your heart of hearts yorkie, do you think it could just be attention seeking, or do you think it is something more than that? Difficult question to answer, I know...

Yorkiegirl · 21/03/2006 22:43

I hope that it is just attention seeking.
But the way that it goes on and on makes me worry there is something more.

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/03/2006 22:44

Thats really poor. Make an appointment with your GP and go from there. I know from experience with family members that some foods can cause awful behavioural problems. Although these were through food additives/colourings mostly.

I would imagine you have already discounted this? What about what she has when at the childminders?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/03/2006 22:45

Can she sense your worry/tension about it?

starlover · 21/03/2006 22:45

does she do it every day? or jsut when she has been at childminders? is it possible that the cm is giving her something that's setting it off?

Yorkiegirl · 21/03/2006 22:46

she does it every day
At the weekend she had a high temp and the screaming was even worse. Understandable I know because she was poorly, but she screamed for 4 hours without stopping then Sad

OP posts:
Miaou · 21/03/2006 22:46

The thing that made me wonder that was when you said that she follows you round and pushes your legs - she's not lost in her own pain/discomfort world, she's trying to batter her way into yours! But being so young she gets so wound up that she doesn't know how to stop once she's gone that far down that route...does that sound feasible?

Yorkiegirl · 21/03/2006 22:47

yes it does Miaou. But what does that mean exactly?

OP posts:
Yorkiegirl · 21/03/2006 22:48

she is screaming now Sad

OP posts:
starlover · 21/03/2006 22:48

how does it start?

jumpingjackflash · 21/03/2006 22:48

Does she do it at say weekends if she is less tired maybe? I don't know but maybe she is kinda getting your attention after being at the childminders (I have a childminder so I am not judging!). If she is only doing in during the week maybe you can pin it down to something like that. Sorry I haven't read the whole of the thread.

Yorkiegirl · 21/03/2006 22:48

she just screams. And moans. Nothing to trigger that I can think of.

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/03/2006 22:49

Non stop screaming IS an indication of ear infection in very small children but i would imagine she would be able to tell you that? Have you asked her afterwards what the matter was.

What does she say?

Miaou · 21/03/2006 22:49

Well...hmm this is hard.

If she starts wailing and moaning, and I mean just when she starts, does she do it on and off for a while before going into full-blown constant mode?
