At what age did your toddler start talking fluently (i.e. sentences)?

As above. At what age did your toddler start to talk in more or less long sentences (3/4 word ones)? Did it happen quite quickly?

DS is 2 today and has only just started stringing 3 words together in the last month or so. For example, 'More juice please', 'Get out buggy', 'Booboo time Mummy' , 'Goodnight teddy bear'.

My 2 year old doesn't finish the sound off any of her words. Is that normal?

About 18-19 months. Now aged 3 y 1 m you can have proper conversations with her. One of my children started talking in sentences at 15 m, another nearer 2.

2.5 ish

DD is 20 months and for the past month or two had been stringing 3 words together eg.'juice please mummy'

2.8 DD2 still doesn't, just starting with "baby bum ouch", "more meme peaz"

DD's just turned 19 months and has started stringing three to four word sentences together, ie today we had 'Mummy boot come off!' when her welly fell off in her pushchair. Really fascinated to hear what's coming next!

DS ia 23 months and his vocab is really coming on, with lots of new words every day, but he is only just putting two or three together - "Mummy do it" "Daddy drink", "bye bye Nana", that kind of thing. I think this is normal until about age 3.

Dd was doing six word sentences at 22 months, now at 27 months she. does. not. stop. She has all the linking words like 'and', 'because', 'is' etc. They seem to suddenly just get it.

DS1 - barely said any words at 21 months. By his 2nd birthday he was talking in full sentences so yes it can happen very quickly.

DS2 - talking in full sentences at 18 months.

I think they are expected to be able to string 2 words together by 2 so probably 3 to 4 words is about 2.5 on average I'm guessing. It isn't a smooth path ime. They do great leaps in understanding and speech at various points along the way and then nothing much for a few weeks before the next step up in development.

dd1(now 5) - 15mo
dd2(nearly 2) - not yet

DS was around 2, I think. (2 word sentences at 22 months, I only remember that because I wrote it in his red book). I know he's not stopped talking since then

DD is 19 months, and has been using simple sentences for about a month. This morning she lifted up my T-shirt, poked my now-quite-big bump and said 'baby, where are oo?'

With DD, she was about 20 months. Really fast.
With DS who is 16 months at the moment, doesn't say much other that mummy, daddy and banana, I can see him speaking fluently a lot later but to be fair his sister doesn't let anyone get a word in edgeways.

4 dds - all completely different from 15 months absolutely crystal clear speech to probably 2 years but unintelligble due to her speech delay, the other were somewhere in between.

Ds1- nearly 3
Dd- 10 months
Ds1 - between 2 and 2.5 years old.

It is well known that females have better converstaion skills than males, on the whole. But did meet a very non-stop chattering 4 year-old boy , and an 8-year-old who never stoppped talking about his knowledge of science. His younger sister was very quiet. Yes 3 year old for most,

Both my dc spoke in sentences before two and seven of my 9 dgc have too.The earliest was a dgs who was 15 months when he said "No go shoes on" the latest was another dgs who was 2.6. My dgd could use sentences in two languages [English and Turkish] before she was 2 and was able to translate [for me] by 3.

Dd spoke really quickly - sentences by 18 months, you could hold a full conversation with her.
Ds3 is 20 months. He can say cheese, and that's it!

Both talking DDs started speaking fluently some time between 18 months and 2 years.

By 2 they could speak pretty much normally, apart from saying the kind of crazy shit that 2 year olds say.

Ds1 had about 3 words (in total!) that he said by his 2nd birthday, but was talking in full sentences within a couple of months of that (can't remember exactly when as it changed so fast, but by 2y 6m he was talking completely fluently in long sentences).

Ds2 said lots of words from very early on (can't quite remember when). Was probably saying 3-4 word sentences by the age of 2 but his grammar was appalling (and very funny!). Now at 2y5m his grammar is pretty good.

Definitely much more of a sudden thing with ds1, it really was like he was waiting to be ready to talk 'properly' before even attempting it at all.

DD was combining words at 12 months and by 18 months spoke fluently.

DS is 12mo and I suspect will be similar. He does combine words to say things like 'dada ouchy' or 'baba up' (baba is what he calls himself) or '[dd's name] ball' (he means play ball with me please big sister) etc.

DD1 was quite late - 2.5 if not later. At 6 she does. not. shut.up!!!
DD2 doesn't say much at the moment - she's nearly 20m but can say 'bye-bye daddy/Molly (the cat) so I guess that counts as linking 3 words . Her comprehension is great though - understands lots in both Welsh and English and can follow complicated instructions in both languages.

I had no idea babies could talk so young . DD2 was an early walker though .

My DS said his first proper sentence when he was 19 months (we were on holiday so I remember) which was "want more ketchup"

He stuck with the three word sentences for about 3 months (more milk now, daddy's car gone, mummy play cars etc) and then after that it just exploded and now at 2 he just chats away pretty normally with the sentences getting longer all the time (today "come on mummy, let's play over here with the car") and also the cute words that he used to say "wrong" are being corrected all the time (boo hoo).
