Hi all, come and tell me what your 2year old said to you today.
My child is a late talker and I just want a snap shot of what other 2yr olds are capable of saying.
Plus it's cute to read what they come out with!
Thanks In advance

Oh and we had a long conversation about Buzz in Toy Story 1 where he thinks he can fly & ends up "bro-ken"

It was along the lines of "buzz can't fly & you can't either so don't even think of trying!"

KatoPotato · 07/06/2012 22:19

Selection:

Want to listen to Jessie is a friend (Jessie's Girl)
What would you like? (putting words into my mouth..)
Thomas a-puffed into knap station
No! A dont want this!
What does mummy say? Robin!
What does daddy say? KATE!
What does auntie claire say? Hello! (exact impersonation!)
I can't see me number 6! (in a harsh scouse impression a la Thomas tank)

My son will be 3 in August.

We were walking back from the shops today and a man was walking a dog in front of us.

He pointed to the dog and said "Is there poo in there?"

I had to say that possibly, yes there was.

Devora · 07/06/2012 22:25

dd is 2.9. Tonight she sang, to the tune of 'Somewhere over the rainbow': Where, oh where is the mama
birds fly high
There's a lamb in the rainbow
why is it in my eye.

Her vocabulary is pretty good, but her enunciation quite indistinct. She's still using a dummy.

worrywortisworrying · 07/06/2012 22:29

Before she was 2, my DD told me that pizza was delicious, that strawberries were disgusting and that Euro disney was the most magical place she had ever seen.
She refused to wear nappies from around 15 months. On her 2nd birthday, she refused a night nappy (no accidents).
She is learning spanish now (neither DH or I speak spanish)

DS was totally the opposite. In nappies till he was 3, still has a bit of a speech delay (he's 4).

They are all different.

worrywortisworrying · 07/06/2012 22:30

Ahh, Devora - DD (2.8 now) is practicing singing happy birthday to my mum tomorrow as it's her birthday.

mummynoseynora · 07/06/2012 22:35

highlights from DS today (2.5)

oh mummy, dog scare me

mummy Ellilly raaar me ( telling tales already on his sis)

no watch this nowwwwww! Watch rar rar!

ello mummy, me tickly you

no take daddy work, hair cut NOW! (he knows he gets raisins if he's good! )

BigBirdsFriend · 07/06/2012 22:45

oh I love this thread, I really love my dd of 2.6 too!

today I had a meeting at home, my colleague does have a daughter of 5 so was well aware of what might happen so....
greeted at the door with
'hello lady, I did a wee wee in the potty!' and she duly handed over the potty.... repeat the image 9 (!) times throughout the next two hours (honestly she is as bad as the dog scent marking during walkies)

she is a chatty girl, quite demanding as well..
supper.. ' no mummy, I want eggie and doldiers, mamite doliers for my supper, and hot milk, HOT milk mummy'

but.. she didnt talk at all, no defined words until two and then raced away, this kind of development comes in phases.
my goddaughter has just started making sense and linking words and is 3.5, she just took her time, signed a great variety of things and was perfectly communicative at a great volume!

Devora · 07/06/2012 23:08

I should add that my eldest, who is now 6, barely spoke a word until she turned 2. She now has a brilliant vocabulary (which is probably why dd2 has too - nobody in this family ever stops talking).

I didn't start talking till I was well over 2. There is a very wide range of normal.

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 07/06/2012 23:21

2.1 yr old. 'Mummy, I want daddy' er, thanks for that...
'Moo wee wee' moo means more, wee wee is sweetie Blush
'Moo shuar' more sugar (we were dusting muffins with icing sugar)
Daddy gone work (with sad expression and intonation)
'Where lolly?' what she calls her sister

She can make herself understood but her speech is still immature.

stressheaderic · 07/06/2012 23:30

DD 2.3yo said earlier: "Dolly being naughty in her car seat so I put her on the naughty stair for two minutes" Blush

SpecialAgentSpade · 07/06/2012 23:40

He sung me the full 4 lines of "happy birthday".and

SpecialAgentSpade · 07/06/2012 23:40

it was actually my birthday

cheeseandmushroomtoastie · 07/06/2012 23:41

Peas momma. Instead of please mummy Grin

Whenthetoadcamehome · 08/06/2012 00:11

Ds, 2.1 never shuts up. The increase in vocabulary is exponential at the moment and overnight sometimes he is suddenly hugely more expressive than even just the day before!
wasssat noise? Is a woodkaka (woodpecker)! Woodkaka Mummy, gone to sleep in the woods!
What just happened there Mummy? (when everyone laughed at something)
I want a* ( any item involving chocolate, his sisters toys, keys or a breastfeed.)
I fix it? I fix it with granddads keys, I gotta puntcha in my bike!
And similar rantings....I LOVE this cute stage, when almost everything they say is adorable and just before they get to the sodding why stage!

Duckypoohs · 08/06/2012 00:16

I asked my ds what new toys he would like, he replied "some toy headphones please" Hmm bit obscure that one. He also whined "I never get cake" when I had a slice (he had already had 2 slices).

He says some funny things, dunglies for dungarees, spiky for spicy and he always asks me if I have my person purse. He does a good line in telling me off too, usually "if you shout at me again Mummy, you'll be in real trouble" Grin.

He also asked me what happens when you die the other day, bit young for existential angst.

My other ds was a late talker too, was diagnosed with mild/moderate receptive and expressive speech delay, he was basically just beginning to speak/put two words together at ds2's age, he is 5 now and about average in the speech stakes I reckon, doing well in reception.

Duckypoohs · 08/06/2012 00:20

I do think 2yo's are the most adorable creatures though, it's my favourite stage yet, even if they are not yet reciting Shakespeare Wink, just the sheer amount of knowledge they absorb and link and cogitate is amazing. It's probably why I have 3 year age gaps, not this time though crosses legs.

brightonbleach · 08/06/2012 11:59

hazey sorry for tardy reply! yes I think it can't do any harm, we found them very useful - they're done by speech therapists and are a very simple cartoon of 2 kids in an average day, so its things that any child will identify with - dressing, breakfast, going to the park, bath time, nursery rhymes. the voices are clear and slow and repetitive to encourage them to mimic the sounds and so on- I was amazed at how fascinated mine was with it and how he started repeating words from it straight away. also he is now a little older and uses concepts from it in everyday life, such as a scene in the 2nd dvd (going to school) where the kids talk about " big boots, little boots" and now he will say "look, a big bus and a little bus!" so I can see that he is understanding the concepts as well as the words if you see what I mean. we feel like they were a real help in vocab and pronounciation, especially as we were starting to get impatient worried about his lack of words even though we had been reading and talking to him all the time since he was born. he's pretty chatty now although his sentences are probably behind his peers in construction (but he can count to 20 forward and back, and draw stickmen with hair and shoes!!!! Grin ). These developmental things can be hereditary though as well can't they, as I just found out that DH didnt speak at all till the age of 3!! and he's pretty garrulous these days :)

brightonbleach · 08/06/2012 12:02

today mine has said: "puddle! I go a school? I go a school today? I go a school bus? oh no, raining. I go a garden? I go? I go? I go?" ad infinitum. he doesnt go to school yet. its raining. no go. boo hoo. (that was me, a very sophisticated sentence haha). Brew

birdofthenorth · 08/06/2012 12:21

DD aged 21 months said her best sentence yet today- "woof woof no choc choc mine bad dog" -yup, our pet was trying to steal her chocolate buttons!

LittlePandaBear · 08/06/2012 13:26

My 19 month DD was singing along with me today "Moooooooooo like dagga!'.

I was singin Maroon 5 Grin

LittlePandaBear · 08/06/2012 13:26

GinPalace · 08/06/2012 13:36

Brightonbleach thanks for that advice - I hadn't heard of those, I think I will give them a try. :)

Firawla yes, fair point, I think I will get him on the list for now and see what happens.

Barristermum thanks for the book link - looks good, may have to try that too.

Felixcited - handy thread this turned out to be for me. Grin

Bethshine82 · 08/06/2012 17:45

DS (2.11) this morning -

Red and yellow make orange?
Blue and yellow make green?
Red and blue make purple?
What makes white mummy?

Me: ummm, all the colours make white, white is all the colours. Black is the absence of colour.
DS: what?

mewkins · 08/06/2012 22:07

"Mummy, sit down read."

"come on auntie let's go."

Yesterday, her favourite phrase, courtesy of my dad, was "shut up Molly!" (Molly is a dog, btw)

dd is 2next month.
