Hi all, come and tell me what your 2year old said to you today.
My child is a late talker and I just want a snap shot of what other 2yr olds are capable of saying.
Plus it's cute to read what they come out with!
Thanks In advance

Transcript of DT's (2 1/2) conversation as I type...

DT1 "Samuel whiskers don't make me into a dumpling"
"I'm a little baby lion cub. This little lion cub is happy with somebody"
"The little baby lion cub can smell something (sniff sniff)"

DT2 "POP! It's Samuel whiskers! Samuel whiskers popped up!. Samuel whiskers is doing some hammering. Look! Look what he can do. He's hammering in the house. Oh no! It's Mr Mc Gregor! He's got his rake"

DT1 "The little baby lion cub woke up. He's asleep again. Get off the chair because I'm trying to get up. Please"

A wildlife and Beatrix Potter obsession here

'knees'
'gone'
'there it is!'
... and repeat.
(pulling the bottom of his shorts up and down over his knees).

'toes'
'gone'
'there it is!'
... and repeat.
(hiding his feet under the tablecloth and spilling all his cereal when he's meant to be eating his breakfast, grrr)

He is 20 months old. He has lots of words (100+) but is only just starting to combine them.

DD is also a late talker and 2.5.

In the morning - ran in saying "Mooh-ninnn!" (x about 100).

Got fed up of waiting for braekfast "Dink! Cmon! Dink!"

During breakfast - "Yummy! 'Licious! Naaaaice!"

Going in the front room - "Hello scooter!"

Daddy off to work "Bye guys!"

As I said, is behind on speech and communication but has made some improvements in the last few weeks.

EmmaCate · 07/06/2012 13:33

2.4yo - added a good new mispronunciation to his repertoire today 'Going to go to.... playgloop'.

'Oh! Where's other one gone, Mummy?' (of his socks)
'Want Winnie the Witch Mummy'
'Oh look! Father Christmas... come back!' 'Can see... frog's foot!' (Winnie related)
'Wanna button'
'I did it' (of small, physical accomplishment at playgroup)
'Byyye... see you.. soon!'

blue22 · 07/06/2012 13:35

My DD is 2.7 - very chatty and opninionated!
When I went to get her this morning she said 'I want Daddy to get me up, Daddy gives me hot chocolate'
And then later when I was trying to do her hair before going to her childminders she said 'I just too busy Mummy, I need to take dolly to pretend cafe for a cappuccino' Smile

I asked 2yr old niece, "what would you like for your birthday?"
She replied, "a Peppa Pig pencil or an iPad."

EmmaCate · 07/06/2012 14:04

Grin RedNellie - had anyone been watching 'Splash' around your DD?

There's a bit in the factory when Alan Bauer sticks a mango on his shoulder and to the tune of 'Zip-pe-di-doo-dah' sings 'Mr Mango on my shoulder'.

This thread is very funny - I love pencil vs. iPad.

TheSurgeonsMate · 07/06/2012 14:05

Needing your dd sounds extraordinarily cheerful!

Iggly · 07/06/2012 14:07

"I want to look at the building site"

"I want to watch fireman sam" Hmm

"why" x a million times a day

He's 2.8

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 07/06/2012 14:44

DS is 2.3 and very chatty, but most conversations focus on where something has gone/we are going:

Where's we going? (x 500)
Where's the say-nul (snail) gone?
Where's the moo cow gone?
Where's the sheeps gone?
Where's the owl gone? No owl. Owl scary. Up please. Not see owl.
(we were at Dean City Farm this morning!)

Where's Daddy gone? (x 500 - obviously confused after long weekend!)

What's mammy doing?
I want play cars two minutes.
What those vehicles doing?
Let's read Maisy
I LOVE beans on toast. SO much Blush
No sleep time now. I want stay here.
I need juice.

SuzySheepSmellsNice · 07/06/2012 15:23

DS (16 months) doesn't say much, aside from the usual Mumma, Dadda, Gam-ma, Oh dear, Ta etc but he has recently started picking up my phone or the TV remote and singing Paaaaaapa Pa' repeatedly (and with the right tune... v. proud!) until I put Peppa Pig on... It's driving me a bit loopy, but it could be worse! :)

GinPalace · 07/06/2012 15:26

my ds is 2 in less than 3 weeks and has never uttered one word at all in his life thus far, not to us or to his teddies in private. However I am sure he has thought many amusing things and I hope he will share them with us at some point.

SurvivalOfTheUnfittest · 07/06/2012 15:30

Mummy, when you pulled trousers up, I can open de door?

At 2.3, a real break through, having narrowly avoided flashing folks in public toilets for the last 6 months!!

RalphGnu · 07/06/2012 15:33

I want to do some polishing! Wahhhhhhhh!

Get off my car, Daddy.

Look Mummy! I did a poo in the potty!

TimeForJubileeCake · 07/06/2012 15:36

As I was doing my make up this morning, or more specifically, using my cover up wand thingy...
Ds: Mummy, why you painting your face?
Me: err... I'm just covering up this and that ds.
Ds: Your moles, mummy? Grin
We'd had a conversation about moles on my arm the other day. At least he didn't say spots, I suppose!

Ds is 2.4 and very chatty.

TheSkiingGardener · 07/06/2012 15:42

DS has just turned 2.

So far we have had "have you had a nice day daddy?". At 7:10 a.m.

"I want to watch Mr Blooooooooooooooooom"

"You take the radio Mummy and talk to the plane with the purple propellers."

He's quite talkative and extremely bossy.

Firawla · 07/06/2012 15:48

mine is 2 and half and late talker too

he says "dadaaa?" if he wants to know where is dada

also "oh gear" = oh dear, whenever he has a problem

and "yeh" if i ask him a q, eg do u want more bubbles

thats about all the words hes said today, which is pretty typical of every day he really does not have v many words at all

GinPalace · 07/06/2012 15:53

firawla are you worried about your ds for this or not at all?

I seesaw - mostly not worried (because his understanding is fine and I think he just isn't fussed about speaking) but occasionally think he might start getting left out of things at nursery, so wonder if I should try to move things along more (as if possible!).

Have you / are you considering speech therapy?

Firawla · 07/06/2012 17:14

gin yes he is on waiting lists at the moment

tbh i would get yours on some lists if he is not on any yet, as it can take some time and if he does speak in his own time then nothing really lost!

brightonbleach · 07/06/2012 19:22

timeforjubileecake my 2 and a half yo DS today called a mole of mine a 'bubble' and daddy's moustache a 'feather'... !
gin and firawla mine benefitted loads from the Sookie and Finn speech therapy dvds, have you seen them?
:)

olivo · 07/06/2012 19:40

My dd was diagnosed with a speech delay at 2 - she will be 3 in 2 months and has suddenly bloomed. I suspect she is just a late bloomer but I am no expert! Today she said I no wee in my bed mummy and then where my big baby? I have spent months worrying about her speech and now she won't shut up Grin I love it!

Firawla · 07/06/2012 19:50

brighton no i havent heard of it, will google - thanks!

hazeyjane · 07/06/2012 19:56

brightonbleach, do you mind me asking whether you think the Sookie and Finn dvd would be helpful for a child with general delay in all areas? (Ds is approx a year delayed, apart from speech where he is at the level of a 6-8 month old).
