Hi all, come and tell me what your 2year old said to you today.
My child is a late talker and I just want a snap shot of what other 2yr olds are capable of saying.
Plus it's cute to read what they come out with!
Thanks In advance

hairtwiddler · 07/06/2012 20:08

DS is 2.7. Some things he says a lot.
"I want some miiiilk" (repeat x20)
"I want a biscuit peeeasse" (given a biscuit)
"I want a more one biscuit"
"I want to up you" (translation: I want you to lift me up)
"Where my lightening queen car gone?"
"Oh, that's piggle piggle!"
"There's a monkey eating a nana"
"Why?" (also repeat x1000)
There's also large amounts of unintelligible babble.

barristermum · 07/06/2012 20:08

This is a brilliant book about the way children learn to speak - would hugely recommend as one of the best child-rearing books I ever had.

Listen to your child

LollsMum · 07/06/2012 20:11

My daughter is 2y2m. Glad to see it isn't just mine who generally makes demands as opposed to chit chat.
Slippers! Juice! Apple! Pippin! (she likes come outside, we have every episode recorded in our planner) Take a seat! (she likes me to join her watching pippin) are just a few of the demands made of me today. She also says ?what's that?? about 50 times a day.

I (affectionately) called her a little devil this morning, and she's been calling her dolly a little devil since. She had some ice cream after lunch and scrunched up her shoulders and said ?bwain feeze? (brain freeze) whilst eating it :o

Astr0naut · 07/06/2012 20:12

Ds, 2.8

"Look at me! Look at me!"

"I need a ice (rice) cake."

"I stroke dd's head. I pick her up." Shock

"I need a wee. Need a wee. Need a weeeeeeeee."

"We go outside/home/nursery/grandparent's now?"

Astr0naut · 07/06/2012 20:16

"I'm not frightened of the hoover." (translation: I'm shit scared of the hoover, but now it's stopped, so I'm brave.)

"I not go down the plughole." (translation: I won't go down the plughole, will I?

"I need slabellies and glapes. Slabellies and glapes, NOW!"

ConstantCraving · 07/06/2012 20:26

'Oh dear, piggy's dress fallen off ... off you go dress!'
'Oh dear peter rabbit .. jacket come off ... off you go jacket' (whilst pulling them off).
'Off you go dum-dum - DD doesn't need it' (dummy now stays in cot - doing very well with this!) 'dum-dum fairy will come soon, maybe DD will get a present, it might be a piggy, it might be a big peppa piggy!'

  • and the usual 'NO!! not hungry, NO!! You don't have to eat it!!!' On food refusal (again!)
BestestBrownies · 07/06/2012 20:29

My mindee has just turned 3. She chats a lot and is bilingual. Her best one today was

HER: "I ha a ice cream?" (after spotting the devil ice cream van at the park at 10am.)
ME: "No. Not today."
HER: "My Daddy say yes" (this is her latest hilarious attempt to get her own way and is applied every time I say no to something).
ME: "Well, you can ask Daddy for some when you get home then."
HER: "You not my bwest fwend ANY MORE Brownies" (complete with folded arms and pouty lip). :o

Park was full. Lots of parents sniggered at this charming little display. We compromised with a banana :)

Rubyabcd · 07/06/2012 20:30

My dd was 2 on tues and had her 2 year check up yesterday, HV said her language very good.
She only talks in two and three word sentences though, such as mummy in bath, daddy home! Ruby dancing, indie walk (dog). X x

millingtonsmummy · 07/06/2012 20:36

On Sunday while watching the jubilee river pageant "hello bean, big boat" over and over and over again :)

Chundle · 07/06/2012 20:47

He is 2.5

AnnaMS · 07/06/2012 20:59

My DS's (2.5) fav phrase this week is 'I don't think so' when you ask him what something is. He used to say I don't know so not sure why he has changed the words.

An0therName · 07/06/2012 21:08

my DS2 -2y 4 mo not saying that much - sitting in his bath "con con" - this means come here mummy - when I get close - my face is "washed" with a very wet cloth - this is very very funny!
he says didit - did it - all one word

headfairy · 07/06/2012 21:14

God, she doesn't stop... first thing was when I got in to bed with her at 6.45 because she was whingeing "mummy, where's teddy?" (answer, right next to your face darling, try opening your eyes :o)

Then after about 20 mins as dh went in to the shower banging and making noise, "daddy's in the shower. I wan milk" followed by "can I count my numbers?" as we walked out her bedroom past the numbers mural on her wall.

While having breakfast I had a couple of "I need a wee wee mummy", and a few yes and nos as I asked her what she wanted for breakfast.

When our nanny arrived with her dd, my dd said "x (nanny's dd) is my best friend in the whole world", then she asked me "Where's X's baby?"

A couple more "[ds's name] hit me/pushed me/not my friend any more" before I left for work. she yelled "bye bye mummy" at me as I left.

DaPrincessBride · 07/06/2012 21:17

DD is 23 months

'Go away Mummy' (nappy change)
'Where did my didi (dummy) / daddy go?'
Boca (bowl), warker (water) yum yum
Dawbries (strawberries)
Oh NO (milk everywhere)
This (enthusiastic pointing) THIS MUMMY THIS NOOOO WAY!!
Pwease?
Row row ya boat, la la go go , la (we never get past the first line)
Lola, Abney, ga ga in pocket [hmmm]
Book no car no ball
STUCK MUMMY STUCK (everything is always stuck, at the moment)

She barely uttered a word in anything other than her own language til last week. Now she's decided to speak!

salvadory · 07/06/2012 21:18

Dd is 2.5, today she has been counting to 10 and then asking me to 'do a sad face mummy', I count to 10 when she's not doing something I want her to do.
Fast ring o ring o Rosie's please (I spin her round which she loves)
Ready steady go (running), apple juice! Straw! My baby is margot, what dat baby called? What name?(to every picture in papers/magazines).
Her speech has really come on inthe last 3 months, she really wasn't saying much before 22 months.

Zwitterion · 07/06/2012 21:18

DaPrincess - my DD sings the whole row your boat (mainly la la la) and has the most ear splitting scream at the end so I wouldn't encourage it!
