When did your LO start to crawl?

My DS is 8.5 months old and showing no signs of crawling. He is sitting very happily. Whenever I put him on his tummy he just gets upset after about 30 seconds ... am starting to worry as all the other babies we know of a similar age are crawling!! I know you should never compare ... but can't help it!!! Thanks

Hi - we were the same. All DS's mates crawled by 9 months and he was still sitting. He finally crawled properly about 10.5months. Actually, he didn't really get there from being on stomach. But from sitting, reaching forward etc. He went backwards for a few days, and then forwards. Still crawls now, 2 months later with no sign of pulling up Confused

DS was about 8.5 months and was quite early compared to other babies I knew of his age.

DD didn't properly crawl for ages but moved in a weird way from about 10.5 months.

Both of them walked at 15 months.

DialMforMummy · 20/12/2011 20:57

Mine was exactly the same. Crawled at 11 months or so and is just about to walk now (14 months)

EBDteacher · 20/12/2011 21:14

At 8.5mo I could have written the same post. DS had been sitting from 5mo but no sign of crawling. Then he did suddenly crawl the day he turned 9mo. I think just as you decide they are never going to do something, they do.

Also happened with pointing (a week after I'd freaked out because he wasn't doing it on his 1st birthday) and walking (14mo + a day or two, after I'd decided he was a 'late walker' because all the other babies in the family have walked between 11-13 months).

cerealqueen · 20/12/2011 21:16

DD1 was over one year old and didn't walk till 19 months. Try not to worry, he'll get round to it!

pinkyp · 20/12/2011 21:18

Ds 1 was 9 months. Ds2 was 6 months. I didn't crawl I just walked apparently.Smile

brachy · 20/12/2011 21:20

My DD walked before she crawled. She was about 9 months when she crawled.
DS, he didn't crawl. He walked earlier than his sister. Not crawling hasn't held him back, he has fantastic motor skills and balance.

cerealqueen · 20/12/2011 21:22

..he might be a bum shuffler!

Plonker · 20/12/2011 21:27

Dd1 didn't crawl at all. She rolled and did a funny commando-type drag.
Dd2 crawled at 11 months and walked 3 weeks later.
Dd3 crawled at 7/8 months and was walking at 9 months.

You would never know by looking at them who crawled when Smile

Rubyabcd · 20/12/2011 21:44

DD crawled at 13m!! Walked at 16.5m!!

Lindax · 20/12/2011 21:47

ds never liked being on his tummy ever. showed no signs of even trying to crawl at 8.5mths, then suddenly just did it around 9mth-ish

he was a big baby (90th centile weight and height) and always just looked very uncomfortable on tummy, leg/arms didnt seem able to hold his weight until then.

ahhhhhpushit · 20/12/2011 21:47

Crawled at 7m, walked properly at 9m.

ahhhhhpushit · 20/12/2011 21:48

I've heard it said about weight/size affecting crawling/walking too but DS was >98% centile so not always the case.

boredbuthappy · 20/12/2011 23:14

DS is 9.5 months...still waiting for him to crawl! Doesn't even roll, very frustrating!!

TickettyBoo · 20/12/2011 23:32

My lo was slow to crawl, think it was around 11 months - and at that point she still hated being on her tummy! She's 19 months now and walks aided and has taken unaided steps up to about 10 lots of times, but doesn't walk/run about on her own yet - she'll get there, eventually lol.

I wouldn't worry, it IS hard not to compare though and I still have days when I worry momentarily x

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 20/12/2011 23:42

Ds commando crawled at 7m, crawled at 8m and walked at 10m.

Dd bum shuffled at 10m and got up and walked a week later. Occasionally crawls now at 14m.

Shakey1500 · 20/12/2011 23:46

A week before his 1st Birthday.

YuleingFanjo · 20/12/2011 23:46

About 8 months.

PogoBob · 21/12/2011 00:50

somewhere between 9 and 10 months. We went on a holiday and she starting pushing herself onto all fours during the week and then set off crawling the following weekend. Before the holiday she hadn't really shown any signs of being ready to crawl

GincogniHoHoHo · 21/12/2011 00:52

12 months. Not walking yet (14 months).

RealLifeIsForWimps · 21/12/2011 00:56

DS is 15mo and has never crawled. From approx 10 months he did what is apparently officially known as "the asymetric bum shuffle" so on his bum with one leg tucked into his groin and using the tucked up leg and his hands to get leverage. He got bloody fast.

He also didn't pull up at all until past 12 months. He then started to get it, and started walking just before 15mo and was immediately very steady.

I know it's easy to say, but try not to worry. They are all different, and whilst it can be frustrating for them when their little friends are mobile, or walking whilst they're sitting on their bums, they'll probably be all around the same by 18mo or so.

Pinetreeland · 21/12/2011 08:47

DS is almost 10.5 mo and doesn't show any signs of crawling. All his friends are crawling at this age. He hates being on his tummy too but lately he has started trying to reach out for far away toys from a sitting position and that's about it. He walks a lot holding onto my fingers and I am wondering whether that contributes to him not having much incentive to crawl. :(

He's also very big for his age (98th percentile both weight and height) so I wonder whether the size argument holds for him.

Wheelybug · 21/12/2011 08:58

DD1 crawled and pulled herself up around the same time at about 9 months. Walked about 12 months.

Dd2 was commando crawling at 5 months, crawling properly at 6 months, cruised at 7 months but still didn't really walk properly until 11 months.

My niece didn't sit until 9 months but then walked at about 11 months.

RealLifeIsForWimps · 21/12/2011 13:58

Pinetree He may turn into a bum shuffler like DS. He was a tummy time hater as well.......or he may just cut straight to walking if he's got the balance and the leg strength. If he's only holding onto a finger then he could be walking within weeks.

80sMum · 21/12/2011 14:00

DS crawled at just under 6 months. DD was 10 months.
