whining all day long help help

My darling little son who i love very much is starting to drive me a little bit insane..he is 10 months old and isnt really doing very much he wont roll pull himself up or crawl...so we start the day off ok for the first hour then it slowly goes downhill from there and he will just whine the whole day long no matter what i do i constantly try to entertain him this i dont mind but its the loud whining that gets to me i think he is frustrated anyone got any ideas or had the same problem...by the time hubby comes home my head feels as if its bursting off my shoulders and am very close to tears!

Oh bless I remember this as my dd was a late crawler but then went from crawling to walking very quickly which helped a bit as at least she could get herself from A to B!!!

My advice is have a routine so you get a break in the day when he naps and make sure you are getting out the house enough and meeting other mums!!

No advice but it will pass and then come back (sorry!) my 16 month old DS the same at the moment. He can walk and climb but not run (always something to master He drives me crazy with it as will come up to me whining to be carried, which stupidly I do, and then wriggles to get down. I put him down, and on it goes ........... over and over.

Fresh air and walks?

At 10 months and not walking my DS loved going out to the shops, siting in the supermarket trolley etc. I know you can't do that every day but it will pass soon, I promise.

is he teething? If he feels a bit rough perhaps he just wants a cuddle...? (not that you can cuddle all day!). Good luck.x

Have you tried any groups, surestart and the library are always good places to start for free places. DD is always easier to look after when out and then normally slept in the afternoon at that age giving me a break and time to do dinner then a quick play and bedtime routine and days over it makes thing go a lot quicker.

I feel your pain my 9mth DS is exactly the same. Exhausting! no help sorry just some hand holding!

I feel your pain OP. I've literally only just come out the other side of this exact situation. DS will be one in a fortnight and is only this week starting to crawl a bit and cruise a bit. Previously, he just whined all day too, and it really wears you down. He is honestly like a different child now he can move a bit. Much much happier and easier to look after. Hang in there. He won't be like this for long.

My 10m old DS is like this too. I either have to carry him around all day, hold him up standing or listen to the grizzle. He can't crawl and doesn't like trying - just wants to cruise. He's better outside, so I can only second what the others have said about taking a trip out - he loves the swings - or playing in the garden. Trying to eat the entire contents of the sandpit keeps him busy for at least half an hour.

Anyway thanks for all your replies I have tried getting out and about with him but then he just whines in his pram instead..and speedy gonzalez I have a 19yr old as well so am only too aware of the amount of whining that goes on over the years lol..think ive tried everything from just sitting cuddling ,playing etc might just have a grumpy little boy by nature hope he grows out of it though before I lose my sanity x

Octaviapink I feel your pain ...funny enough he does only seem happy when he has something in his hands that he shouldnt like the mop the dogs by their tails etc...phew he is whining already can feel another long day ahead x

I remember this well OP, drives you mad doesn't it? My DS was exactly the same at that age, I put it down to frustration at not being able to get to all the interesting things he can see around the house or communicate verbally. But understanding it doesn't really make it any easier to bear! It will pass, I promise. Unfortunately DS is now 22 months and likes to spend his days whining "Mummmmeeeeeeeeee!", following me around and being generally very annoying at the moment. Tiring and irritating, but I'm counting on it passing soon.

Ah well, I had one that liked TV and one that didn't. I guess you could sit and read stories all day. I did a lot of that as it stopped fighting. Good luck!

It could be the onset of teething...regardless, i highly recommend trying one of those amber teething necklaces whenever his teeth do start to emerge. They are awesome at relieving the pain.

Another one jumping on the band wagon. . . .seem to spend all day just trying to keep DD happy and to top it all off she refused to sleep at all last night because of her teeth so even more grumpy today. On a positive note (NOT), my neighbour just came round to show off her DS can now crawl (I am sure this pissed DD off even more) and reminded me that he sleeps 12 hours every bloody night - FFS

My 8mo is like this. She has no teeth, so I assume she's teething too. Can't crawl (at all) or roll (much) so gets very frustrated. Like you stripey, the pets cheer her up. She laughs when pulling the cats' tails...

How is his sitting balance? Is he able to roll and choosing not too?
I found the baby einstine DVDs good to get 15 mins peace. The stand in leapfrog unit was a god send too.
Definitely try to find some library groups, regular walks, mum and toddlers etc.

kellieb7 I feel your pain although he sleeps through the night which is a total godsend because i dont know that i would be able to cope with the whining all day and night...
but there is nothing worse than some mothers saying with shock horror what he isnt crawling yet rolling standing etc...well NO he isnt and it doesnt matter because he will get there no child went to school not walking! its just stressful having to figure out whats wrong...
pimsoclock his sitting balance is good so that does help it means he can sit upright and moan lol...havent tried a playgroup yet have been trying to pluck up the courage and go must admit the thought of it terrifies me pathetic i know but well it might help us both to get out of the house ...i havent been out in over 9 days!!

can only suggest getting out to parks, groups, places where he can see other babies/toddlers and have new toys to play with. swings, slides good pre-crawling, he might enjoy the movement. staying in the house will drive you both insane.

when it all gets too much here, we head to the park where I spend the time keeping the babies from eating stick, grass, cherry pips and (now they can crawl) from trying to climb too high. but, crucially, it always shifts the mood, they forget the grumps. get out there now, before it gets too cold!

missstripeysocks, I completely understand your apprehension in regards to groups and don't think it's pathetic at all, I have tried to go on several occasions and have always talked myself out of it because 1) Madame may have being up all night, 2) Madame is guaranteed to start whinging/shouting whilst all the other babies sit playing beautifully. Maybe we both need to be brave and embrace our lovely grumpy pants!!
It's a shame we don't live near each other we could go together and no doubt cause mayhem -

kellieb7 I agree its so hard somedays to pull myself together and get out the door when he is just whining and whining I think right thats it lets get out and then I just get so worn down by it all that I dont get out the door..
My sister is starting to worry about my lack of communication with the outside world and is coming to drag me to a mother and todller group tomorrow must admit am dreading it...perhaps because I feel me and baby will be judged which is so silly because I would never judge anyone else wish me luck !

good luck :) you might find that everyone else's baby is just as whiny. or that yours is not at all whiny because there's so much to look at. I always used to get complemented on ds1's behaviour, and I'd have to explain that actually there was a very lovely, quiet well behaved public ds1, and a much louder, grumpier private one. yours may be the same, who knows?
