Is this normal?? He's 3 years 4 months and will sleep for 1 - 2 hours. Sleeps 12 hours per night.

Thanks.

Christ my nearly 3yo is asleep right now and i would lose my mind if i didn't have 2 hours to f*ck about to work on the days she's at home with me... she's also always been a 12-hours-a-nighter.

she has a friend the same age who barely sleeps AT ALL and never has. has to be forced to have a 10min nap, awake at 5 in the morning... there clearly are just different physiologies/metabolisms and that's that.

Shinyshoes1 · 16/09/2011 15:28

mine does and was 3 in January, she has about an hour

trixymalixy · 16/09/2011 15:28

Normal. DS is 4.5 and sometimes has an afternoon nap still. He was definitely still napping every afternoon at 3.

sheeplikessleep · 16/09/2011 15:30

DS1 is 4 next month and asleep right now! Admittedly he only naps every few days now, but it's bliss when he does :)

MamaChocoholic · 16/09/2011 15:30

it won't last forever. as long as it does, enjoy it. he'll only nap if he needs the sleep.

ajandjjmum · 16/09/2011 15:31

My DC were encouraged to continue with their naps - and they were often for up to two hours. I loved the peace!

Mumleigh · 16/09/2011 15:41

I'm jealous! DD ( 3) stopped afternoon naps at about 14 months.
DS on the other hand would sleep for 2 hours right up until he started school when he was almost 5. He is in year 1 now and comes out of school shattered!

Atropos · 16/09/2011 15:43

Why are you worried? Who suggested this is a problem? Was that person a fool, bore or loony?

MissTinaTeaspoon · 16/09/2011 15:46

Dd is 3 1/2 and still has 2 hours after lunch, she gets about 11 hours at night. None of her close friends have a nap, but they all seem to get up later when they aren't in school, and go to bed earlier. She still seems to need the nap, and it means that I can have one if I'm working a night shift, plus we can all eat together in the evenings because she doesn't have to be in bed by 7. I do worry about how she'll manage full time school next year though.

aStarInStrangeways · 16/09/2011 15:46

oh god, just enjoy it. my ds stopped napping just after his 2nd birthday. how i miss them.

jacobsmama · 16/09/2011 19:15

You lucky, lucky people. If only Envy

Gastonladybird · 16/09/2011 19:17

Yes mine does too- only about an hour but needs it. My mum reckons it's odd kids drop naps so early (partly due to school issues) as reckons they had a rest after lunch at school when she went til they were about 6.

PizzaEmpress · 16/09/2011 19:31

My mother said that she thought it was weird to nap past 18 months.

My mother says a lot of stuff... Hmm

LOL - yes - ignore ignore ignore.

Some do, some don't - it doesn't matter either way, but your sanity levels are better when they do Grin

WoofToYouTooLady · 16/09/2011 20:23

gawd ignore her

DS2 still napped right up til he started reception

then he had v early tea and slept 5.30 til 7 til the following spring

some children just like sleep

AngelDog · 16/09/2011 20:23

Sleep books eg Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child say that the majority of children need naps until at least 3 years old. Obviously some don't.

I know children who still needed a nap by the time they started reception.

WoofToYouTooLady · 16/09/2011 20:23

hah brill x post

Pigleychez · 16/09/2011 21:36

Yep, DD1 is 3.1 and still has an afternoon nap most days. If she doesnt shes a nightmare by tea time!

She just started pre-school every morning and now sleeps for 3hours! Totally wears her out!

Not complaining as DD2 (15mths) also has an afternoon nap the same time! Bliss to get some quiet time for myself!

Still sleeps 12 hours at night... just like Mummy and likes her sleeep!

SazZaVoom · 16/09/2011 21:38

DD1 stopped hers properly at just over 4

DD2 stopped hers ages ago (and she is only just 3)

Enjoy it while it lasts!

NoNoNoMYDoIt · 16/09/2011 21:40

oooo how i wish that had been mine. both mine were nap-refuseniks by 2 years. Envy

MrsHuxtable · 16/09/2011 22:57

Yes, very normal.

Petisa · 16/09/2011 23:29

Mine is 3.5 and sleeps for a couple of hours every afternoon. Only sleeps 10.5 hours at night though. Was thinking of trying to make the nap shorter and night time sleep longer but I go to bed with her little sister at nap time and feed for ages so it's good dd1 is asleep too plus I need my cuppa and biccy and MN too

RachelHRD · 17/09/2011 00:09

Gawd I wish my 3.10 year old still had an afternoon nap - he stopped before he was 3 so now I have the pleasure of his company ALLLLLLLLLLL day Hmm.............

pipoca · 17/09/2011 09:15

MIne is 3 and a half and sleeps an hour and a half in the afternoon but also only does about 10 hrs at night...last night did 8.30 to 6.30am for example.

Petisa · 17/09/2011 13:56
