We call DS's privates 'willy' but I don't know what to call DD's!! Vagina just seems a bit clinical.
Suggestions for nicer terms gratefully received! I can't think of any.

well each to their own and all that.

LuckySalem · 16/07/2011 20:58

See I do wonder whether people are too clinical?

I didn't know about vagina's etc till I was told in high school by a teacher (I think) didnt cause me problems.

If DD asks more specifically then I'll tell her but at 3yo I think bits are good enough.

basingstoke · 16/07/2011 21:00

Aren't children more interested in the urinary rather than reproductive functions? Or were my DC unusual?

surfandturf · 16/07/2011 21:03

My DC's call theirs 'tinkles' as that's the sound their wee makes when it comes out. We have used this term since they learnt to speak. DS has a 'boy tinkle' and DD has a 'girl tinkle'. When DS started school he started calling his a willy as that's what all his friends say. DD does know that her wee comes out of a different hole to the one that babies come out of though Smile I don't really think it matters at this age - but the made up words are so cute!!!!

MummysTooTightToMention · 16/07/2011 21:04

Oh, forgot to mention- intergluteal cleft.

:o :o :o

Where's my prize? I do like a bit of Fango Bingo on a Saturday night.

MerryMarigold · 16/07/2011 21:05

We're in the same boat. 2 boys. Willy is easy and cute. Penis just conjures up the wrong sort of images for me and I wanted a similar type of name for my dd. Well, after she was consistently calling her 'bits' a 'willy', I decided we did need a name (she is 2.5), so after a bit I came up with 'Foof' (which sounds just as silly as willy) and that's it for now...

mrsm123 · 16/07/2011 21:09

here here willowstar!

speaking of vaginas, i'm off to watch mildred pierce on sky atlantic.

night folks.

mrsm123 · 16/07/2011 21:10

hear hear :)

kellestar · 16/07/2011 21:10

MiL asked me this question recently, she always referred to it as fumblepocket... Grin won't be using that term, carrying on the family tradition of doodah. SiL uses minge but I don't like the sound of it. Again agree that the technical terms can be used at a later date, but that's just common sense.

Faggotsnpeas · 16/07/2011 21:10

I have a very nearly 3yr old, and she has always known it to be a vagina. When she was born me and my DH talked about what we were going to name it, it was actually his idea to call it a vagina which did surprise me. DH didn't see the point of disguising it by giving it any other name. She also knows that boys have a penis. I have 3 nieces 6, 4 and nearly 2 and they have "ninny's"

vintageteacups · 16/07/2011 21:14

Twinkle - my sister thought of it when my dd was a baby and said it was a nice slang word for it.

Willy for DS but both kids know the real words. DS likes to shout the word penis at every given opportunity Wink but he's 6 and a little monkey.

vividgingerchilli · 16/07/2011 21:18

they know their real names but DS tends to refer to them as his privates. DD doesn't refer to them at all.
The last time that DS referred to them was inadvertantly, he was practising the piano and said "When I grow up I don't want to be a penis" - I was quite relieved Grin

basingstoke · 16/07/2011 21:18

And what do you call the part she sees from? You are disguising that by calling the whole area a vagina.

pink4ever · 16/07/2011 21:19

merrymarigold-we call it foof in our house too! ds and dd have recently learned the correct names and now think its hilarious to randomly shout vagina to each otherHmm.
I think its better to try and answer dcs questions honestly but dh is still trying to convince them babies come from the baby shop.twonk.

basingstoke · 16/07/2011 21:19

Ha at auto correct! wees from.

yodelayheehoo · 16/07/2011 21:24

It's minnies galore in our house! I have 2 DD's and we all have minnies and Daddy has a willy. Grin

culturemulcher · 16/07/2011 21:25

mummystotighttomention you have a fossa really? Grin

BonzoDooDah · 16/07/2011 21:26

It really pigs me off the boys have a socially acceptable, non-clinical name for their genitals that everyone knows but girls are reduced to either labia or a twee pet-name.
I read loads and asked my social worker friends and other mothers I knew and in the end we call decided to call it a fanny. I don't care if some people have a shock reaction to it. I think we need a good solid name like willy and fanny is that. More people use it = less shock.

[steps off soap box]

1gglePiggle · 16/07/2011 21:29

I have the same predicament but I'm liking the twinkle name for my 2yo. Clinical names can come later on.

Pekkala · 16/07/2011 21:31

There is a fab children's book called "Little Rabbit Foo Foo" that my reception class love. We did a sing-a-long performance of it for parents and I couldn't work out why a couple of mums were crying with laughter. Now I understand!

culturemulcher · 16/07/2011 21:33

BonzoDooDah you took the words right out of my mouth. I was just about to write exactly the same thing.

culturemulcher · 16/07/2011 21:34

Pekkala it always makes me smile too, when DD sings 'little rabbit foo foo running through the forest' Grin

GwendolineMaryLacey · 16/07/2011 21:35

Shouldnt that be vulva la revolution? :o
