DH and I have been trying to teach our almost 14mo DD about animals, namely what noises they make.

She got the hang of meiow (prob as we have 2 cats) but had real probs with any of the others, she'd just look at us blankly and then shout 'MEIOW!' no matter which animal we pointed at in the book. We took her to a stately home when we were on holiday and they have pigs. She excitedly shouted 'MEIOW' when she spotted them ! This has now become a bit of a recurring theme chez WSM.

However, DD just pulled DS2's DVD stacking unit over and picked up Scooby Doo. She pointed at Scooby and shouted 'Doggy !', closely followed by 'Oof !'. AT LAST !!!!!! Of course I now have to clear up all the blinkin' DVDs on the floor

Well done to miggy's ds2, now you know you have 2 academic geniuses in the family!

Marina · 12/02/2004 10:06

Miggy, those are HARD to come by. Well done to your ds2 and you have every right to be very proud of them both!

nutcracker · 12/02/2004 10:09

Congratulations Miggy . This is a rather stupid question but i've always wondered how you get a scholarship, or rather how you put them forward for one. Also once they've got one what happens then ???

lou33 · 12/02/2004 15:13

Nutty, dd1 got a scholarship for yr3 and up in a private school. I just called them and asked if they had any scholarship places still going! they did, so she sat the entrance exam, passed and got accepted. She's yr 7 now, and not there any longer, she's going to a v good state school now.

lou33 · 12/02/2004 15:13

Sorry, Miggy I meant to say the the beginning ,CONGRATULATIONS!

Hulababy · 12/02/2004 15:15

Fantastic news Miggy. You seem to have a very clever family there. Well done to your DS

GeorginaA · 12/02/2004 18:37

Congrats Miggy!!

Just now I mentioned to ds (2yr 9mths) that my hands were sore. He ran off, went upstairs, got the handcream down from its shelf, came back downstairs carrying it carefully and brought it to me. What a star! Then when I was done he carried it all the way back again

I must have done something right

nutcracker · 12/02/2004 20:17

So if they pass then you don't have to pay ANY fees ?? Do they have to be a particular age or anything ??
Only asking because my DD is quite bright and i recently saw an advert for a school offering scolarshipp places. DD is 6.

lou33 · 12/02/2004 20:50

We had to pay 50%. I think scholarships are from age 7 (well the school dd1 attended was).

nutcracker · 12/02/2004 20:58

Oh well nevermind. I couldn't afford to pay anything.

HiddenSpirit · 12/02/2004 21:20

We have had a lot of problems with DS1 and his behaviour for a while now, and he has been getting just as bad at school (he started in September) but yesterday I was so so proud of him as he got a little certificate from the teacher for putting his hand up in class and taking turns

This is the first one he has ever had and was just so pleased for him

Sorry had to get that out lol

aloha · 12/02/2004 22:51

Welshmum, that made me laugh. My ds had conjunctivitis and asked for his 'eye tickle' (eye drops). Bless him.
Can I just say here that my son is the love of my life. My heart beats faster when I look at him and he is the most beautiful gifted and gorgeous boy in the world. I say that purely objectively of course. BTW I was dancing with him in the kitchen today and he said, "what animal are you being mummy? Are you a chicken?' - so much for my rythmic skills then...

emmatmg · 13/02/2004 06:16

Ds2 has to be dry to start nursery at the end on January and with a new baby in the house that last thing I wanted to be doing was chasing a 2.5 yr old around with a potty.
We left it and left until there was only 2 weeks before he started and he did it. The only accidents at nursery are from not getting onto the toilet quickly enough. Bless him.

This is the proud bit.....I was making dinner the other day and heard him going upstairs but when I didn't hear the toys being thrown about I thought "what is he doing?" so I crept upstair and there he was trousers and pants down standing up at the toilet doing a wee. He's even lifted the seat up! He then insisted on turning on the tap to wash his hands himself too.

I know they all do it eventually but he just seems so little compared to when DS1 did the same. Only one set of nappies in the house now........Wooooo-Hooooooo.

bossykate · 13/02/2004 21:32

ds (2.5) said today, "mummy, you are a princess".

Chinchilla · 16/02/2004 22:03

My 'baby' ds (2y 7m) is growing into such a wonderful little boy. He is chattering away, after all my worries about his late talking. He knows his numbers to 20, and all his letters (except 'Y'!) He comes down the stairs all proud of himself for walking down holding the bannister. Each day he surprises me with a new word, or he does something new. I know that this is normal, but I am seeing this wonderful PERSON emerging, with his own mind and thoughts. It is an amazing process, and I feel honoured to be his Mummy.

I feel sad that the baby stage is now definitely over, but he has become such a lovely thing that I can't begrudge it.

Demented · 17/02/2004 21:24

Aww well done to all your little ones!

I am very proud of my DS1 today as he has come back with a special sticker from the Nursery to say that he has been a very helpful boy. He helped his teacher bake some cakes, helped some of the younger children use the computer and helped a boy in his class use the printer. At the end of the session he was presented with a sticker in front of his classmates and they all clapped.

Good to see you Chinchilla!

Chinchilla · 18/02/2004 19:37

Thanks Demented! Your message about your ds just melted my heart!

spacemonkey · 21/02/2004 12:25

I am very proud of my ds - today his football manager announced that he thinks he's the best goalkeeper in the league

It makes me so proud every time I watch him play and see him taking it so seriously and being a proper little sportsman.

lou33 · 21/02/2004 12:46

What excellent news, tell him well done for me! Big pressie time?

misdee · 21/02/2004 12:49

i'm proud of my daughter for learning the words cherek cheeky last night ans apple as well.
am also proud of dd1 for being vwery good this rather boring half term week.

prettycandles · 25/02/2004 14:45

dd has said her first words: AH is hat, BU is book and 'read to me', and BAA is my boobs!

prettycandles · 25/02/2004 14:45

and she is 14m

pollingfold · 25/02/2004 15:13

DS at 14 months knocked over a bowl of water, saying "o oh" as he did. He then screamed in fits of giggles whilst I frantically grabbed a towel to mop up the mess. Off he toddles and the next thing I knew he was back with another towel mopping up the mess.

If only he'd figure out the hoover!!

CountessDracula · 25/02/2004 15:16

DD, nearly 18 months, had us in fits of giggles at the weekend. We were singing Twinkle Twinkle little star and she just looked at us after the first line and sang, clearly and in tune "Ow i under ot you are"!!!

We couldn't believe it.

With a bit more practise she is now singing the whole thing, with hand movements. I can't believe that this time 5 months ago she could barely say a word and now she can sing the whole of TTLS!!!
