DH and I have been trying to teach our almost 14mo DD about animals, namely what noises they make.

She got the hang of meiow (prob as we have 2 cats) but had real probs with any of the others, she'd just look at us blankly and then shout 'MEIOW!' no matter which animal we pointed at in the book. We took her to a stately home when we were on holiday and they have pigs. She excitedly shouted 'MEIOW' when she spotted them ! This has now become a bit of a recurring theme chez WSM.

However, DD just pulled DS2's DVD stacking unit over and picked up Scooby Doo. She pointed at Scooby and shouted 'Doggy !', closely followed by 'Oof !'. AT LAST !!!!!! Of course I now have to clear up all the blinkin' DVDs on the floor

We should start another thread - why we love being mummies!!

Loobie · 05/12/2003 21:55

Well my dd 13 months took her very first steps by herself today at 1pm,just 2 little teeny weeny ones but there they were all the same!!!

Demented · 11/12/2003 23:20

DS1 (almost 5) started to swim without armbands today!!! All thanks to a tip from another Mum about getting him goggles, I think that's all that's been holding him back as he has always been very confident in the water. I am a proud Mummy today! We're going swimming tomorrow again so he can show his Daddy!

ninja · 11/12/2003 23:24

dd (7 months) has started to crawl and now has 6 teeth without hardly a whimper

MUM2ELA · 12/12/2003 09:12

Just wanted to let everyone know (cos I am soooo proud!!) that DD went into nursery today and didn't cry!

This is a breakthrough as she has been going there for one day a week since she was 8 months old (she is now 15 months!).

I wanted to cry! But its typical - when she goes back after Christmas she is moving up a a class and we may have tears all over again

JanHR · 12/12/2003 13:06

Wow stressyhead your dd's vocab sounds amazing! Mine is almost 16 months and sounds like she is at the same stage!

Eve · 02/01/2004 14:47

We were all going on to dinner on new Years Eve, I had LBD on with a sparkly scarf my Mum had given me for xmas.

DS (4) said as we got into the car, 'Wow Mum you look lovely, like a twinkly, sparkly star in the sky'

He is such a sweetie...DH wasn't impressed when I said his son has more charm than him!!!

Chinchilla · 02/01/2004 16:34

My dh keeps saying 'Poorwy' to me and kissing me better! (I have got a sore throat). He also keeps kissing my ironing scar on my arm 'better'...so cute.

Ds has only recently got better at speaking (he is now nearly 2yrs 6m), but he has the most amazing memory. His comprehension was always advanced too. He always understood what I was saying to him.

MoHoHo2 · 02/01/2004 17:06

Ds1 (turned 4 in Dec) just announced over Christmas that hw ouldn't be wearing pull-ups overnight anymore in 2004, so in the spirit of 'support' he went to bed in pants last night and proudly arrived in our room at 8 am this morning completely dry! I'm gobsmacked!

Ailsa · 03/01/2004 12:11

My DS has taken to making rather loud comments whenever he walks past anyone smoking. We were walking home from kids club one evening and there were some kids in the local park smoking, ds asked what they were doing, dd1 said that it looked liked they were smoking, we kept walking but ds went back and shouted at them, "You shouldn't smoke, it's disgusting."

I can't ake any of the credit for it though, that has to go to school, they had a 'Life Caravan' visit the school and the kids were shown a picture of a smokers black lungs! It's put him off for life.

Hulababy · 03/01/2004 12:15

After 4 nights of CC 20 month old DD slept solid for 13.5 hours last nightwithout a murmer. I hope it wasn't a fluke - the not waking in night bit anyway.

Ailsa · 03/01/2004 12:43

Well Done hulababy, fingers crossed for tonight.

Hulababy · 03/01/2004 13:58

Thanks Ailsa. New one actually now. DD has just managed a new skill - to remove every stitch of her clothing!!! She is now running round the room naked, very pleased with herself for taking of her top, vest, trousers and pull ups.

fisil · 03/01/2004 15:55

DS says gak. It means bird (or outdoors, cos that's where birds live, obviously) Very proud that he got his first word in before his first birthday. Can't imagine 132 words in the next two months though, StressyHead, your dd sounds fab!

steppemum · 04/01/2004 06:58

OO I'm so proud, my ds aged 12 months has just started to say mi, mi ummm when he wants his milk. I thought it was coincidence at first, but he has done it 3 times now! It is sooo cute, he has loads of sounds, but this is his first word.

SenoraPostrophe · 08/01/2004 16:52

Today I'm so proud I almost started a new thread entitled "my genius baby"...

For a few months I've been vaguely worried that dd's vocabulary is a bit limited - well, she comes out with words, but usually then never says them again. And the child psychologist at her nursery said she was a bit worried too - I know this was a Spanish psychologist, but even so.

Anyway today she pointed at my mouth and said "mameee maff" which I took to be "mummy's mouth" (we often play at pointing to noses, eyes etc.) A two word phrase! already!

Sod that psychologist I say.

Hulababy · 08/01/2004 20:16

SP.

Aren't all these stories just so lovely!

popsycal · 08/01/2004 20:21

i didnt believe the childminder....but he did it with his little monsters book tonight (monster LELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOO)
but there again - he has been calling his childminder 'grandma' all day!!

popsycal · 08/01/2004 20:24

it was yellow not pellow
swooning at the thought of marty now...........

GillW · 12/01/2004 13:07

DS (28 months) was playing with has tractor this weekend when he started saying "tractor go left" and "tractor go right" - and making the appropriate movements. Then yesterday when I was getting him dressed it was (correctly) "left leg" and "right leg" as we put his trousers on, and "turn left" "turn right" when we were in the car. He could even tell me which was my right hand when I has facing him (so it would seem to be on his left).

I've no idea whether this is normal at his age, but I have distinct memories of having to remember "I WRITE with my RIGHT hand" in order to get it right - so I don't think can have I learnt this until about 5 or 6. Very proud that he's obviously going to be much smarter than his mum!

When I collected DD1 from kids club today she told me that she has been voted onto the childrens committee by the rest of her class, the committee has its first meeting with the headteacher tomorrow lunchtime.
