Is it short for anything besides Fintan? And what are people's general thoughts on it?

Finlay and it's lovely

Isitmeorisither · 01/07/2010 22:47

Lovely name. Finn is cool for a boy but cute too.

Bucharest · 01/07/2010 22:49

Finlay.

Doesn't seem quite as faddy as it was 5 yrs ago, but it's still a bit that way.

I prefer Fintan. Seems much classier.

CheerfulYank · 01/07/2010 22:53

Here mostly girls are called Finley, but I do like it. I think Finn is cool without being too trendy, and short and to the point, which is how I like my boy names. Is it a good brother name for Sam, or are they too different?

It's lovely with sam. It's a really nice name that isn't used at all round here.

LovelyJudy · 01/07/2010 22:55

it's v popular round our way. but still lovely.

CheerfulYank · 01/07/2010 22:56

My grandmother, who is Finnish and very into her heritage , would enjoy it as well. Am definitely putting it on my short list!

Personally I'm not keen on Finn names. However there are several to choose from if you do like them. Finbar, Fineas, Fingal, Finlay, Findley, Finian.

Hedwig3 · 02/07/2010 12:19

Have become a bit bored with these to be honest, sorry.

FranSanDisco · 02/07/2010 12:22

I agree with Hedwig. Over Finn to be honest. I feel like it's a little bit done.

No offence to those with sons called Finn!!

BrigitteBardot · 02/07/2010 15:03

The best name in the whole wide world

randomimposter · 02/07/2010 15:52

I really loved Finn, and had it on list for DC2 ... but in the meantime have had 2 MCs and have gone off it a bit. Largely because it seems so popular - which is odd as DS is William (Billy) which is hardly rare!!

Also close friend has just called her new arrival Finlay so definitely can't do it now .

My preferred names are Finnian, Finnegan or Finley.

Ragwort · 02/07/2010 15:54

Sorry, really dislike it (as for Finnegan - I would really pity some poor boy with that name .)

randomimposter · 02/07/2010 15:58

Rag cos of Michael Finnegan... chinnegan?

BiscuitsandBaileys · 02/07/2010 16:00

I love the name Finn! DD2 was going to be Finn if she was a boy.

Magalyxyz · 02/07/2010 16:16

Prefer Fionn (fyun)

Magalyxyz · 02/07/2010 16:18

Nobody has mentioned Finbar

Tasala · 02/07/2010 16:40

Don't like it but I know a Phineas (called Fin).

allbie · 02/07/2010 16:41

I have a Finbar and it rocks so there!! NAR NE NAR NE NAR! Ha!

Thissideofchannel · 02/07/2010 17:22

Getting a bit overused imo....I know loads of Finnians, Finlays, Finleys, Finbars all born in the last 5 years or so. Most get called Finn.

How about Quinn?
